Evening Prayer - Monday August 29 2022

Confession

Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you
in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done,
and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will,
and walk in your ways,
to the glory of your Name.

Amen

May Almighty God have mercy on us,
forgive us all our sins
through our Lord Jesus Christ,
strengthen us in all goodness,
and by the power of the Holy Spirit
keep us in eternal life.

Amen

Friday - Evensong Invitation

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Grace to you and peace from God our Fa-ther
and from/the Lord Je-sus Christ.
Wor-ship the Lord in/the beau-ty of his holi-ness;
let the whole earth trem-ble be-fore him.

Let my prayer be set forth in your sight as in-cense,
the lifting up of my hands as the eve-ning sacri-fice.
I will bless the Lord who gives me coun-sel;
my heart teaches me, night after night.

I have set the Lord al-ways be-fore me;
be-cause he is at my right hand, I shall not fall.
O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

O Gracious Light

O gracious Light,
pure brightness of the
everliving Father in heaven.
O Jesus, Christ, holy and blessed!

Now as we come to the setting of the sun,
and our eyes behold the vesper light,
we sing your praises, O God:
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

you are worthy at all times
to be praised by happy voices,
O Son of God, O Giver of life,
and to be glorified through all the worlds.

Psalm 9Confitebor tibiBCP p. 593
Iwill give thanks to you, O Lord, with my whole heart; *I will tell of all your marvelous works.
I will be glad and rejoice in you; *I will sing to your Name, O Most High.
When my enemies are driven back, *they will stumble and perish at your presence.
For you have maintained my right and my cause; *you sit upon your throne judging right.
You have rebuked the ungodly and destroyed the wicked; *you have blotted out their name for ever and ever.
As for the enemy, they are finished, in perpetual ruin, *their cities plowed under, the memory of them perished;
But the Lord is enthroned for ever; *he has set up this throne for judgment.
It is he who rules the world with righteousness; *he judges the peoples with equity.
The Lord will be a refuge for the oppressed, *a refuge in time of trouble.
Those who know your Name will put their trust in you, *for you never forsake those who seek you, O Lord.
Sing praise to the Lord who dwells in Zion; *proclaim to the peoples the things he has done.
The Avenger of blood will remember them; *he will not forget the cry of the afflicted.
Have pity on me, O Lord; *see the misery I suffer from those who hate me,O you who lift me up from the gate of death;
So that I may tell of all your praisesand rejoice in your salvation *in the gates of the city of Zion.
The ungodly have fallen into the pit they dug, *and in the snare they set is their own foot caught.
The Lord is known by his acts of justice; *the wicked are trapped in the works of their own hands.
The wicked shall be given over to the grave, *and also all the people that forget God.
For the needy shall not always be forgotten, *and the hope of the poor shall not perish for ever.
Rise up, O Lord, let not the ungodly have the upper hand; *let them be judged before you.
Put fear upon them, O Lord; *let the ungodly know they are but mortal.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

A Reading from the Gospel According to John.                    (John 8:21-32)

Again he said to them, “I am going away, and you will search for me, but you will die in your sin. Where I am going, you cannot come.” Then the Jews said, “Is he going to kill himself? Is that what he means by saying, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come’?” He said to them, “You are from below, I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world. I told you that you would die in your sins, for you will die in your sins unless you believe that I am he.”

They said to him, “Who are you?” Jesus said to them, “Why do I speak to you at all? I have much to say about you and much to condemn; but the one who sent me is true, and I declare to the world what I have heard from him.” They did not understand that he was speaking to them about the Father.

So Jesus said, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will realize that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own, but I speak these things as the Father instructed me. And the one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what is pleasing to him.” As he was saying these things, many believed in him.

Then Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

The Word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

The Song of Simeon        Luke 2:29-32        Nunc dimittis

Lord, you now have set your servant free*
to go in peace as you have promised;
For these eyes of mine have seen the Savior,*
whom you have prepared for all the world to see:
A Light to enlighten the nations,*
and the glory of your people Israel.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.

A Gospel according to John 19:23-27

23 When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his clothes and divided them into four parts, one for each soldier. They also took his tunic; now the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from the top. 24 So they said to one another, "Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see who will get it." This was to fulfill what the scripture says, "They divided my clothes among themselves, and for my clothing they cast lots."

25 And that is what the soldiers did. Meanwhile, standing near the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside her, he said to his mother, "Woman, here is your son." 27 Then he said to the disciple, "Here is your mother." And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home.

The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Monday - Song of Mary

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

My soul pro-claims the greatness of/the Lord,
my spirit re-joices in God my Sav-ior;
for he has looked with favor on his lowly serv-ant.
From this day all gener-a-tions will call me blessed:

the Al-might-y has done great things for me,
and _ holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him
in eve-ry gener-a-tion.

He has shown the strength of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in their con-ceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the low-ly.

He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent/a-way emp-ty.
He has come to/the help of his servant Is-ra-el,
for he has re-membered his prom-ise of mer-cy,

The prom-ise he made to our fath-ers,
to Abra-ham and his children for-ev-er.
My soul pro-claims the greatness of/the Lord,
my spirit re-joices in God my Sav-ior;

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Collect of the Day

Almighty God, Lord of heaven and earth: We humbly pray that your gracious providence may give and preserve to our use the harvests of the land and of the seas, and may prosper all who labor to gather them, that we, who are constantly receiving good things from your hand, may always give you thanks; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Amen.

A Collect for Peace

Most holy God, the source of all good desires, all right judgements, and all just works: Give to us, your servants, that peace which the world cannot give, so that our minds may be fixed on the doing of your will, and that we, being delivered from the fear of all enemies, may live in peace and quietness; through the mercies of Christ Jesus our Savior.

Amen.

Prayer for Mission

O God and Father of all, whom the whole heavens adore: Let the whole earth also worship you, all nations obey you, all tongues confess and bless you, and men and women everywhere love you and serve you in peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

as may be best for us;
granting us in this world knowledge of your truth,
