Evening Prayer - Monday July 25 2022

Confession

Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you
in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done,
and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will,
and walk in your ways,
to the glory of your Name.

Amen

May Almighty God have mercy on us,
forgive us all our sins
through our Lord Jesus Christ,
strengthen us in all goodness,
and by the power of the Holy Spirit
keep us in eternal life.

Amen

Friday - Evensong Invitation

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Grace to you and peace from God our Fa-ther
and from/the Lord Je-sus Christ.
Wor-ship the Lord in/the beau-ty of his holi-ness;
let the whole earth trem-ble be-fore him.

Let my prayer be set forth in your sight as in-cense,
the lifting up of my hands as the eve-ning sacri-fice.
I will bless the Lord who gives me coun-sel;
my heart teaches me, night after night.

I have set the Lord al-ways be-fore me;
be-cause he is at my right hand, I shall not fall.
O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

O Gracious Light

O gracious Light,
pure brightness of the
everliving Father in heaven.
O Jesus, Christ, holy and blessed!

Now as we come to the setting of the sun,
and our eyes behold the vesper light,
we sing your praises, O God:
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

you are worthy at all times
to be praised by happy voices,
O Son of God, O Giver of life,
and to be glorified through all the worlds.

Psalm 33

1Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous; *
it is good for the just to sing praises.
2Praise the Lord with the harp; *
play to him upon the psaltery and lyre.
3Sing for him a new song; *
sound a fanfare with all your skill upon the trumpet.
4For the word of the Lord is right, *
and all his works are sure.
5He loves righteousness and justice; *
the loving-kindness of the Lord fills the whole earth.
6By the word of the Lord were the heavens made, *
by the breath of his mouth all the heavenly hosts.

7He gathers up the waters of the ocean as in a water-skin *
and stores up the depths of the sea.
8Let all the earth fear the Lord; *
let all who dwell in the world stand in awe of him.
9For he spoke, and it came to pass; *
he commanded, and it stood fast.
10The Lord brings the will of the nations to naught; *
he thwarts the designs of the peoples.
11But the Lord's will stands fast for ever, *
and the designs of his heart from age to age.

12Happy is the nation whose God is the Lord! *
happy the people he has chosen to be his own!
13The Lord looks down from heaven, *
and beholds all the people in the world.
14From where he sits enthroned he turns his gaze *
on all who dwell on the earth.
15He fashions all the hearts of them *
and understands all their works.
16There is no king that can be saved by a mighty army; *
a strong man is not delivered by his great strength.

17The horse is a vain hope for deliverance; *
for all its strength it cannot save.
18Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon those who fear him, *
on those who wait upon his love,
19To pluck their lives from death, *
and to feed them in time of famine.
20Our soul waits for the Lord; *
he is our help and our shield.
21Indeed, our heart rejoices in him, *
for in his holy Name we put our trust.
22Let your loving-kindness, O Lord, be upon us, *
as we have put our trust in you.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

The Gospel according to Matthew 10:16-32

16“See, I am sending you out like sheep into the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.17Beware of them, for they will hand you over to councils and flog you in their synagogues;18and you will be dragged before governors and kings because of me, as a testimony to them and the Gentiles.1

9 "When they hand you over, do not worry about how you are to speak or what you are to say; for what you are to say will be given to you at that time;20for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.21Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death;22and you will be hated by all because of my name. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

23 "When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next; for truly I tell you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.24“A disciple is not above the teacher, nor a slave above the master;25it is enough for the disciple to be like the teacher, and the slave like the master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household!

26 “So have no fear of them; for nothing is covered up that will not be uncovered, and nothing secret that will not become known.27What I say to you in the dark, tell in the light; and what you hear whispered, proclaim from the housetops.28Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

29 "Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.30And even the hairs of your head are all counted.31So do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows.32“Everyone therefore who acknowledges me before others, I also will acknowledge before my Father in heaven;

The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Monday - Song of Mary

My soul pro-claims the greatness of/the Lord,
my spirit re-joices in God my Sav-ior;
for he has looked with favor on his lowly serv-ant.
From this day all gener-a-tions will call me blessed:

the Al-might-y has done great things for me,
and _ holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him
in eve-ry gener-a-tion.

He has shown the strength of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in their con-ceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the low-ly.

He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent/a-way emp-ty.
He has come to/the help of his servant Is-ra-el,
for he has re-membered his prom-ise of mer-cy,

The prom-ise he made to our fath-ers,
to Abra-ham and his children for-ev-er.
My soul pro-claims the greatness of/the Lord,
my spirit re-joices in God my Sav-ior;

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Show us your mercy, O Lord;
And grant us your sal-va-tion.
Clothe your minis-ters with righteous-ness;
Let your people sing with joy.

And guide us in/the way of justice and truth.

Let your way be known up-on earth;
Your saving health among all na-tions.

And sus-tain us by your Holy Spi-rit.
Show us your mercy, O Lord;
And grant us your sal-va-tion.

Collect of the Day

Almighty God, Lord of heaven and earth: We humbly pray that your gracious providence may give and preserve to our use the harvests of the land and of the seas, and may prosper all who labor to gather them, that we, who are constantly receiving good things from your hand, may always give you thanks; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Amen.

A Collect for Peace

Most holy God, the source of all good desires, all right judgements, and all just works: Give to us, your servants, that peace which the world cannot give, so that our minds may be fixed on the doing of your will, and that we, being delivered from the fear of all enemies, may live in peace and quietness; through the mercies of Christ Jesus our Savior.

Amen.

Prayer for Mission

O God and Father of all, whom the whole heavens adore: Let the whole earth also worship you, all nations obey you, all tongues confess and bless you, and men and women everywhere love you and serve you in peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Al-might-y God,
you have given us grace at this time
with one ac-cord
to make our common suppli-cation to you;

and you have prom-ised
through your well be-loved Son
that when two/or three are gathered in his Name
you will be in/the midst of them:

Ful-fill now, O Lord, our de-sires and pe-ti-tions
as may be best for us;
granting us in this world knowledge of your truth,
and in/the age to come life ever-lasting. A-men.
