How blessed is the one who o-beys the Lord,

In/the darkness a light shines for/the god-ly,

For each one who is merci-ful, com-passion-ate, and just.

From east to west the Lord's name is de-serving of praise.
The Lord is ex-alted over all the na-tion;
his splendor reaches be-yond the sky.
Who can com-pare to/the Lord our God?

Who sits on a high throne?
He bends down/to look at/the sky and the earth.
He raises the poor from/the dirt,
and lifts up/the gar-bage pile,

That he might seat him with princ-es,
with the princes of his peo-ple.

a happy mother of chil-dren. Praise the Lord!

Readings

A reading from 1 John 1:1-7

We declare to you what was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— this life was revealed, and we have seen it and testify to it, and declare to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us— we declare to you what we have seen and heard so that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. We are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.

This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him while we are walking in darkness, we lie and do not do what is true; but if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also.

And you know the way to the place where I am going." Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?" Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him."
