Nations shall come to your light,
and kings to/the brightness of your ris-ing.
I/will give you as/a light to/the na-tions,
that my sal-vation may reach to/the end of/the earth.
From the rising of/the sun to its set-ting
my Name shall be great a-mong the na-tions,
and in every place
in-cense shall be offered to my Name,
and a pure offer-ing: for my Name shall be great
a-mong the nations says the Lord of Hosts.
Lord, o-pen our lips.
And our mouth shall pro-claim your praise.
Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Come, let's sing to/the Lord;
let's shout for joy to/the Rock of our sal-va-tion.
Let's come be-fore his presence with thanks-giv-ing
and raise a loud shout to him with psalms.
For the Lord is/a great God,
and a great King a-bove all gods.
In his hand are the caverns of/the earth,
and the heights of/the hills are his al-so.
The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands have molded the dry land.
Come, let's bow down, and bend the knee,
and kneel be-fore the Lord our Mak-er.
For he is our God,
and we are the people of his pas-ture
and the sheep of his hand.
Oh, that to-day you would hearken to his voice!

In you, O Lord, I have taken shel-ter!
Nev-er let me be hu-mili-at-ed!
Vin-di-cate me by res-cu-ing me!
List-en to me! De-liver me!
Be my pro-tector and ref-uge,
a strong-hold where I can be safe!
For you are my high ridge
and my strong-hold for-ev-er.
My God, res-cue me
from the power of/the wick-ed,
from the hand of/the cru-el op-pres-sor!
For you are my hope; O Sov-er-eign Lord,
I have trusted in you since I was young.
I have leaned on you since birth;
you pulled me from my mother's womb.
I praise you con-tinual-ly.
Many are ap-palled when they see me,
but you are my se-cure shel-ter.
I praise you con-stant-ly
and speak of your splendor all day long.
Do not re-ject me in my old age!
When all my strength has failed,
do not a-bandon me!
For my ene-mies talk a-bout me;
Those waiting for a chance to kill me plot my de-mise.
They say, God has a-bandoned him.
Run and seize him,
for there is no one who will res-cue him!
O God, do not re-main far/a-way from me!
My God, hurry and help me!
May my ac-cusers be
hu-mili-at-ed and de-feat-ed!
May those who want to harm me
be covered with scorn and dis-grace!
As for me, I will wait con-tinual-ly,
and will con-tinue to praise you.
I will tell/a-bout your jus-tice,
and all day long pro-claim your sal-va-tion,
though I cannot fathom its full ex-tent.
I will come and tell/a-bout your deeds
The might-y acts of/the Sovereign Lord.
I will pro-claim your justice yours a-lone.
O God, you have taught me since I was young,
and I am still de-claring your a-mazing deeds.
Even when I am old and gray,
O God. Do not a-bandon me
un-til I tell the next gener-a-tion
a-bout your strength and power.
Your jus-tice, O God,
ex-tends to/the skies a-bove;
you have done great things. O God,
who can com-pare to you?
Though you have al-lowed me to ex-peri-ence
much trou-ble and dis-tress,
re-vive me once a-gain!
Bring me up once a-gain
From the depths of/the earth!
Raise me to a po-si-tion of great hon-or!
Turn and comfort me, O God!
I will ex-press my thanks to you
With a stringed instru-ment,
prais-ing your faithful-ness, O my God!
I will sing praises to you
ac-com-pa-nied by a harp,
O Ho-ly One of Is-ra-el!
My lips will shout for joy!
Yes, I will sing your praise!
I will praise you when you res-cue me!
All day long my tongue
will al-so tell/a-bout your jus-tice,
for those who want to harm me
will be em-barrassed and a-shamed.
Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for ever A-men.
Readings
A reading from Genesis 23:1-20
Sarah lived one hundred twenty-seven years; this was the length of Sarah's life. And Sarah died at Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan; and Abraham went in to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her.
Abraham rose up from beside his dead, and said to the Hittites, "I am a stranger and an alien residing among you; give me property among you for a burying place, so that I may bury my dead out of my sight." The Hittites answered Abraham, "Hear us, my lord; you are a mighty prince among us. Bury your dead in the choicest of our burial places; none of us will withhold from you any burial ground for burying your dead." Abraham rose and bowed to the Hittites, the people of the land. He said to them, "If you are willing that I should bury my dead out of my sight, hear me, and entreat for me Ephron son of Zohar, so that he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he owns; it is at the end of his field. For the full price let him give it to me in your presence as a possession for a burying place." Now Ephron was sitting among the Hittites; and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the hearing of the Hittites, of all who went in at the gate of his city, "No, my lord, hear me; I give you the field, and I give you the cave that is in it; in the presence of my people I give it to you; bury your dead." Then Abraham bowed down before the people of the land. He said to Ephron in the hearing of the people of the land, "If you only will listen to me! I will give the price of the field; accept it from me, so that I may bury my dead there." Ephron answered Abraham, "My lord, listen to me; a piece of land worth four hundred shekels of silverwhat is that between you and me? Bury your dead."
Abraham agreed with Ephron; and Abraham weighed out for Ephron the silver that he had named in the hearing of the Hittites, four hundred shekels of silver, according to the weights current among the merchants. So the field of Ephron in Machpelah, which was to the east of Mamre, the field with the cave that was in it and all the trees that were in the field, throughout its whole area, passed to Abraham as a possession in the presence of the Hittites, in the presence of all who went in at the gate of his city. After this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah facing Mamre (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan. The field and the cave that is in it passed from the Hittites into Abraham's possession as a burying place.
Here ends the reading.

Thursday - Song of Praise
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto PDF All
Glory to you, Lord God of our fath-ers;
you are worthy of praise; glory to you.
Glory to you for/the radi-ance of your holy Name;
we will praise you and highly ex-alt you for ev-er.
Glory to you in/the splen-dor of your tem-ple;
on the throne of your maj-es-ty, glory to you.
Glory to you, seated be-tween the Cher-u-bim;
we will praise you and highly ex-alt you for ev-er.
Glory to you, be-hold-ing the depths;
in the high vault of heav-en, glory to you.
Glory to you, Fath-er, Son, and Ho-ly Spi-rit;
we will praise you and highly ex-alt you for ev-er.
A reading from John 6:60-71
When many of his disciples heard it, they said, "This teaching is difficult; who can accept it?" But Jesus, being aware that his disciples were complaining about it, said to them, "Does this offend you? Then what if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? It is the spirit that gives life; the flesh is useless. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. But among you there are some who do not believe." For Jesus knew from the first who were the ones that did not believe, and who was the one that would betray him. And he said, "For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted by the Father." Because of this many of his disciples turned back and no longer went about with him. So Jesus asked the twelve, "Do you also wish to go away?" Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God." Jesus answered them, "Did I not choose you, the twelve? Yet one of you is a devil." He was speaking of Judas son of Simon Iscariot, for he, though one of the twelve, was going to betray him.
Here ends the reading.

Lord, you now have set your servant free
to go/in peace as you have prom-ised;
For these eyes of mine have seen the Sav-ior,
whom you have pre-pared for all the world to see:
A Light to en-lighten the na-tions,
and the glory of your people Is-ra-el.
Lord, you now have set your servant free
to go/in peace as you have prom-ised;
Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever. A-men.

Save your people, Lord,
and bless your in-herit-ance;
Govern and guide them, Lord
and up-hold them, now and al-ways.
Day by day we bless you;
We praise your name for-ever.
Lord, keep us from all sin to-day;
Have mercy on us, Lord, have mer-cy.
Lord, show us your love and mer-cy;
For we put our trust in you.
In you, Lord, is our hope;
And we shall never hope in vain.
Collect of the Day
Almighty God, whose blessed Son our Savior Jesus Christ ascended far above all heavens that he might fill all things: Mercifully give us faith to perceive that, according to his promise, he abides with his Church on earth, even to the end of the ages; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting.
Amen.
A Collect for Guidance
Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our being: We humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget you, but may remember that we are ever walking in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Prayer for Mission
O God, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth, and sent your blessed Son to preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near: Grant that people everywhere may seek after you and find you; bring the nations into your fold; pour out your Spirit upon all flesh; and hasten the coming of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
