in-cense shall be offered to my Name,

and a pure offer-ing: for my Name shall be great
a-mong the nations says the Lord of Hosts.
Lord, o-pen our lips.
And our mouth shall pro-claim your praise.

Be joy-ful in/the Lord, all you lands;
serve the Lord with glad-ness
and come be-fore his presence with a song.
Know this: The Lord him-self is God;

He him-self has made us, and we are his;

go into his courts with praise;

Give thanks to him and call on his Name.
Be-cause the Lord is good;
his mercy is ever last-ing;

Psalm 37:1-18

Do not fret when wicked men seem/to suc-ceed!
Do not en-vy evil-do-ers!
For/they will quickly dry up like grass,
and wither a-way like plants.

Trust in/the Lord and do what/is right!
Settle in/the land and main-tain your in-tegri-ty!
Then you will take/de-light in/the Lord,
and he will answer your prayers.

Com-mit your future to/the Lord!
Trust/in him, and he will act/on your be-half.
He will vindi-cate you in broad day-light,
and public-ly de-fend your just cause.

Wait patient-ly for/the Lord!
Wait _ confi-dently for him!
Do not fret over the/ap-parent suc-cess of/a sin-ner,
a man who carries out wicked schemes!

Do/not be an-gry
and do/not be frus-trat-ed!
And do not fret!
That only leads to trou-ble!

Wicked men will be wiped out,
but those who/re-ly on/the Lord
are/the ones who will pos-sess the land.
Evil men will soon disap-pear;

you will stare at/the spot where they once were,
but they will not be there.
But/the op-pressed will pos-sess the land
and en-joy great pros-peri-ty.

Evil men plot a-gainst the god-ly
and vicious-ly at-tack them.
The Lord laughs in/dis-gust at them,
for he knows/that their day is com-ing.

Evil men draw their swords
and they pre-pare their bows,
to bring down the/op-pressed and need-y,
and to slaughter those who are god-ly.

Their swords will pierce their own hearts,
and their bows will/be bro-ken.
The little bit that/a god-ly man owns is bet-ter
than the wealth of many evil men,

for evil men will lose their power,
but the Lord sus-tains the god-ly.
The Lord watches over the inno-cent day by day
and they pos-sess a perma-nent in-herit-ance.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Readings

A reading from Genesis 11:1-9

Now the whole earth had one language and the same words. And as they migrated from the east, they came upon a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there. And they said to one another, "Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly. " And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for mortar. Then they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves; otherwise we shall be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. "

The LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which mortals had built. And the LORD said, "Look, they are one people, and they have all one language; and this is only the beginning of what they will do; nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them. Come, let us go down, and confuse their language there, so that they will not understand one another's speech. "So the LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city. Therefore it was called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of all the earth; and from there the LORD scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth.

My soul pro-claims the greatness of/the Lord,
my spirit re-joices in God my Sav-ior;
for he has looked with favor on his lowly serv-ant.
From this day all gener-ations will call me blessed:

the Al-mighty has done great things for me,
and ho-ly is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him
in eve-ry gener-a-tion.

He has shown the strength of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in their con-ceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the low-ly.

He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent/a-way emp-ty.
He has come to/the help of his servant Isra-el,
for he has re-membered his promise of mer-cy,

The promise he made to our fath-ers,
to Abra-ham and his children for-ev-er.

A reading from John 4:1-15

Now when Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard, "Jesus is making and baptizing more disciples than John"—although it was not Jesus himself but his disciples who baptized—he left Judea and started back to Galilee.

But he had to go through Samaria. So he came to a Samaritan city called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Jacob's well was there, and Jesus, tired out by his journey, was sitting by the well. It was about noon. A Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, "Give me a drink. "(His disciples had gone to the city to buy food. )The Samaritan woman said to him, "How is it that you, a Jew, ask a drink of me, a woman of Samaria? " (Jews do not share things in common with Samaritans. )Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, 'Give me a drink, ' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water. "The woman said to him, "Sir, you have no bucket, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? Are you greater than our ancestor Jacob, who gave us the well, and with his sons and his flocks drank from it? "Jesus said to her, "Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life. "The woman said to him, "Sir, give me this water, so that I may never be thirsty or have to keep coming here to draw water. "

Collect of the Day

Almighty God, whose blessed Son our Savior Jesus Christ ascended far above all heavens that he might fill all things: Mercifully give us faith to perceive that, according to his promise, he abides with his Church on earth, even to the end of the ages; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting.

A Collect for Guidance

Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our being: We humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget you, but may remember that we are ever walking in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Prayer for Mission

O God, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth, and sent your blessed Son to preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near: Grant that people everywhere may seek after you and find you; bring the nations into your fold; pour out your Spirit upon all flesh; and hasten the coming of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
