Friday - Epiphany Invitation
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto PDF All
Nations shall come to your light,
and kings to/the brightness of your ris-ing.
I/will give you as/a light to/the na-tions,
that my sal-vation may reach to/the end of/the earth.
From the rising of/the sun to its set-ting
my Name shall be great a-mong the na-tions,
and in every place
in-cense shall be offered to my Name,
and a pure offer-ing: for my Name shall be great
a-mong the nations says the Lord of Hosts.
Lord, o-pen our lips.
And our mouth shall pro-claim your praise.
Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.
Friday - Jubilate
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto PDF All
Be joy-ful in/the Lord, all you lands;
serve the Lord with glad-ness
and come be-fore his presence with a song.
Know this: The Lord him-self is God;
He him-self has made us, and we are his;
we are his people and the sheep of his pas-ture.
Enter his gates with thanks-giv-ing;
go into his courts with praise;
Give thanks to him and call on his Name.
Be-cause the Lord is good;
his mercy is ever last-ing;
and his faithful-ness en-dures from age to age.

Psalm 69

De-liver me, O God,
for the water has reached my neck.
I sink into the deep mire
where there is no sol-id ground;
I am in deep wat-er,
and the current over-pow-ers me.
I am ex-hausted from shout-ing for help;
my throat is sore; my eyes grow tired of looking for my God.
Those who hate me with-out cause
are more numer-ous than the hairs of my head.
Those who want to de-stroy me,
my ene-mies for no reason, out-number me.
They make me re-pay what/I did not steal!
O God, you are/a-ware of my fool-ish sins;
my guilt is not hidden from you.
Let none who re-ly on you be dis-graced be-cause of me,
O Sovereign Lord of Heaven’s Ar-my!
Let none who seek you be a-shamed
be-cause of me, O God of Is-ra-el!
For I suffer hu-mili-a-tion for your sake
and am thorough-ly dis-graced.
My own brothers treat me like a stran-ger;
they act as if/I were a foreign-er.
Cer-tain-ly zeal for your house con-sumes me;
I en-dure the insults of those who in-sult you.
I weep and re-frain from eat-ing food,
which causes others to in-sult me.
I wear sack-cloth and they ridi-cule me.
Those who sit at/the cit-y gate gossip about me;
drunkards mock me in their song.
O Lord, may you hear my prayer
and be favor-ably dis-posed to me!
O God, be-cause of your great loyal love,
answer me with your faithful de-liver-ance!
Res-cue me from/the mud! Don’t let me sink!
De-liver me from those who hate me, from/the deep wat-er!
Don’t let the current over-pow-er me!
Don’t let the deep swallow me up!
Don’t let the Pit de-vour me!
Answer me, O Lord, for your loyal love is good!
Be-cause of your great com-passion, turn toward me!
Don't ig-nore your servant, for I am in trou-ble!
Answer me right a-way!
Come near me and re-deem me!
Be-cause of my ene-my, res-cue me!
You know how I am in-sult-ed,
hu-mili-at-ed and dis-graced;
you can see all my ene-mies.
Their in-sults are painful and make me lose heart;
I look for sympa-thy, but re-ceive none,
for comfort-ers, but find none.
They put bitter poi-son into my food,
and to quench my thirst they give me vine-gar to drink.
May their dining table be-come a trap be-fore them!
May it be a snare for that group of friends!
May their eyes be blind-ed!
Make them shake vio-lent-ly!
Pour out your judg-ment on them!
May your raging anger over-take them!
May their camp be-come deso-late, their tents un-in-habit-ed!
For they harass the one whom you disci-pline;
they spread the news a-bout the suffer-ing
of those whom you pun-ish.
Hold them ac-count-able for all their sins!
Do not vindi-cate them!
May their names be de-leted from/the scroll of/the liv-ing!
Do not let their names be listed with/the god-ly!
I am op-pressed and suffer-ing!
O God, de-liver and pro-tect me!
I will sing praises to God's name!
I will magni-fy him as I give him thanks!
That will please the Lord more than a bull with horns and hooves.
The op-pressed look on; let them re-joice!
You who seek God, may you be en-cour-aged!
For the Lord listens to/the need-y;
he does not de-spise his cap-tive peo-ple.
Let the heavens and the earth praise him,
a-long with/the seas and every-thing that swims in them!
For God will de-liver Zi-on
and re-build the cities of Ju-dah,
and his people will/a-gain live in them and pos-sess Zi-on.
The de-scendants of his servants will in-herit it,
and those who are loyal to him will live in it.
You who seek God, may you be en-cour-aged!
Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for ever A-men.
Readings
A reading from Genesis 24:1-27
Now Abraham was old, well advanced in years; and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things. Abraham said to his servant, the oldest of his house, who had charge of all that he had, "Put your hand under my thigh and I will make you swear by the LORD, the God of heaven and earth, that you will not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I live, but will go to my country and to my kindred and get a wife for my son Isaac." The servant said to him, "Perhaps the woman may not be willing to follow me to this land; must I then take your son back to the land from which you came?" Abraham said to him, "See to it that you do not take my son back there. The LORD, the God of heaven, who took me from my father's house and from the land of my birth, and who spoke to me and swore to me, 'To your offspring I will give this land,' he will send his angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there. But if the woman is not willing to follow you, then you will be free from this oath of mine; only you must not take my son back there." So the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master and swore to him concerning this matter.
Then the servant took ten of his master's camels and departed, taking all kinds of choice gifts from his master; and he set out and went to Aram-naharaim, to the city of Nahor. He made the camels kneel down outside the city by the well of water; it was toward evening, the time when women go out to draw water. And he said, "O LORD, God of my master Abraham, please grant me success today and show steadfast love to my master Abraham. I am standing here by the spring of water, and the daughters of the townspeople are coming out to draw water. Let the girl to whom I shall say, 'Please offer your jar that I may drink,' and who shall say, 'Drink, and I will water your camels' let her be the one whom you have appointed for your servant Isaac. By this I shall know that you have shown steadfast love to my master." Before he had finished speaking, there was Rebekah, who was born to Bethuel son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother, coming out with her water jar on her shoulder. The girl was very fair to look upon, a virgin, whom no man had known. She went down to the spring, filled her jar, and came up. Then the servant ran to meet her and said, "Please let me sip a little water from your jar." "Drink, my lord," she said, and quickly lowered her jar upon her hand and gave him a drink. When she had finished giving him a drink, she said, "I will draw for your camels also, until they have finished drinking." So she quickly emptied her jar into the trough and ran again to the well to draw, and she drew for all his camels. The man gazed at her in silence to learn whether or not the LORD had made his journey successful. When the camels had finished drinking, the man took a gold nose-ring weighing a half shekel, and two bracelets for her arms weighing ten gold shekels, and said, "Tell me whose daughter you are. Is there room in your father's house for us to spend the night?" She said to him, "I am the daughter of Bethuel son of Milcah, whom she bore to Nahor." She added, "We have plenty of straw and fodder and a place to spend the night." The man bowed his head and worshiped the LORD and said, "Blessed be the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken his steadfast love and his faithfulness toward my master. As for me, the LORD has led me on the way to the house of my master's kin."
Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!
Friday - Song to the Lamb
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto PDF All
Splendor and honor and king-ly power
are yours by right, O Lord our God,
For you cre-ated every-thing that is,
and by your will they were cre-ated and have their be-ing;
And yours by right, O Lamb that was slain,
for with your blood you have re-deemed for God,
From eve-ry fami-ly, lan-guage, people, and na-tion,
a kingdom of priests to serve our God.
And so, to him who sits up-on/the throne,
and to Je-sus Christ the Lamb,
Be worship and praise, do-min-ion and splen-dor,
for-ever and for-ever-more.
Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.
A reading from John 7:1-13
After this Jesus went about in Galilee. He did not wish to go about in Judea because the Jews were looking for an opportunity to kill him. Now the Jewish festival of Booths was near. So his brothers said to him, "Leave here and go to Judea so that your disciples also may see the works you are doing; for no one who wants to be widely known acts in secret. If you do these things, show yourself to the world." (For not even his brothers believed in him.) Jesus said to them, "My time has not yet come, but your time is always here. The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify against it that its works are evil. Go to the festival yourselves. I am not going to this festival, for my time has not yet fully come." After saying this, he remained in Galilee. But after his brothers had gone to the festival, then he also went, not publicly but as it were in secret. The Jews were looking for him at the festival and saying, "Where is he?" And there was considerable complaining about him among the crowds. While some were saying, "He is a good man," others were saying, "No, he is deceiving the crowd." Yet no one would speak openly about him for fear of the Jews.
Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!
Friday - Third Song of Isaiah
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto PDF All
A-rise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of/the Lord has dawned up-on you.
For/be-hold, darkness covers the land;
deep gloom en-shrouds the peo-ples.
But over you the Lord will rise,
and his glory will/ap-pear up-on you.
Nations will stream to your light,
and kings to/the brightness of your dawn-ing.
Your gates will always be o-pen;
by day or night they will never be shut.
They will call you, The City of/the Lord,
The Zion of/the Holy One of Is-ra-el.
Vio-lence will/no more be heard in your land,
ruin or de-struction with-in your bor-ders.
You will call your walls, Sal-va-tion,
and all your por-tals, Praise.
The sun will/no more be your light by day;
by night you will/not need the brightness of/the moon.
The Lord will be your ever-last-ing light,
and your God will be your glo-ry.
Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for ever. A-men.

Your saving health a-mong all na-tions.

Cre-ate in us clean hearts, O God;
And sus-tain us with your Holy Spi-rit.

And grant us your sal-va-tion.
Collects of the Day
O God, you have prepared for those who love you such good things as surpass our understanding: Pour into our hearts such love towards you, that we, loving you in all things and above all things, may obtain your promises, which exceed all that we can desire; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
A Collect for Fridays
Almighty God, whose most dear Son went not up to joy but first he suffered pain, and entered not into glory before he was crucified: Mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the cross, may find it none other than the way of life and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Prayer for Mission
Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace: So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you; for the honor of your Name.
Amen.
