Evening Prayer - Thursday January 13 2021

Confession

Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you
in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done,
and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will,
and walk in your ways,
to the glory of your Name.

Amen

May Almighty God have mercy on us,
forgive us all our sins
through our Lord Jesus Christ,
strengthen us in all goodness,
and by the power of the Holy Spirit
keep us in eternal life.

Amen

Thursday - Epiphany Invitation

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Na-tions shall come to your light,
and kings to/the brightness of your ris-ing.
I will give you as/a light to/the na-tions,
that my sal-vation may reach to/the end of/the earth.

From the rising of/the sun to its set-ting
my Name shall be great a-mong the na-tions,
and in every place
in-cense shall be offered to my Name,

and a pure offer-ing: for my Name shall be great
a-mong the na-tions, says the Lord of Hosts.
Lord, o-pen our lips.
And our mouth shall pro-claim your praise.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

O Gracious Light

O gracious Light,
pure brightness of the
everliving Father in heaven.
O Jesus, Christ, holy and blessed!

Now as we come to the setting of the sun,
and our eyes behold the vesper light,
we sing your praises, O God:
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

you are worthy at all times
to be praised by happy voices,
O Son of God, O Giver of life,
and to be glorified through all the worlds.

Psalm 18:21-50

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

For I have o-beyed the Lord's com-mand;
I have not re-belled a-gainst my God.
For I am a-ware of all his regu-la-tions,
and I do not re-ject his rules.

I was inno-cent be-fore him,
and kept my-self from sin-ning.
The Lord re-warded me for my god-ly deeds;
he took notice of my blameless be-hav-ior.

You prove to/be loyal to one who/is faith-ful;
you prove to/be trust-worthy to one who/is inno-cent.
You prove to/be re-lia-ble to one who/is blame-less,
but you prove to/be de-ceptive to one who/is per-verse.

For you de-liver op-pressed peo-ple,
but you bring down those who have/a proud look.
In-deed, you light my lamp, Lord.
My God il-lumin-ates the darkness a-round me.

In-deed, with your help
I can charge/a-gainst an ar-my;
by my God's power
I can jump over a wall.

The one true God acts in a faithful man-ner;
the Lord's promise is re-lia-ble.
He is a shield to all who take shelter in him.
In-deed, who is God be-sides the Lord?

Who is/a pro-tector be-sides our God?
The one true God gives me strength;
he re-moves the obsta-cles in my way.
He gives me the a-gili-ty of a deer;

he en-ables me to ne-goti-ate the rugged ter-rain.
He trains my hands for bat-tle;
my arms can bend even the strongest bow.
You give me your pro-tec-tive shield;

your right hand sup-ports me.
Your willing-ness to help en-ables me to pre-vail.
You widen my path; my feet do not slip.
I chase my ene-mies and catch them;

I do/not turn back un-til I wipe them out.
I beat them to death; they fall at/my feet.
You give me strength for bat-tle;
you make my foes kneel be-fore me.

You make my ene-mies re-treat;
I de-stroy those who hate me.
They cry out, but there/is none to help them;
they cry out to/the Lord, but he does not answer them.

I grind them as fine wind-blown dust;
I beat them under-foot like clay in/the street.
You res-cue me from a hostile ar-my.
You make me a leader of na-tions;

People over whom I had no au-thori-ty are now my sub-jects.
When they hear of my ex-ploits, they sub-mit to me.
Foreign-ers are power-less be-fore me.
Foreign-ers lose their cour-age;

they shake with fear as they leave their strong-holds.
The Lord is a-live! My Pro-tec-tor is praise-wor-thy.
The God who de-livers me is ex-alted as king.
The one true God com-pletely vindi-cates me;

he makes nations sub-mit to me.
He de-livers me from my ene-mies.
You snatch me a-way from those who at-tack me;
you res-cue me from vio-lent men.

So I will give you thanks be-fore the nations, O Lord.
I will sing praises to you.
He gives his king mag-nifi-cent vic-to-ry;
he is faithful to his chosen ruler, to Da-vid and his de-scendants for-ev-er.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Readings

A reading from Hebrews 3:1-11

Therefore, brothers and sisters, holy partners in a heavenly calling, consider that Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession, was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses also "was faithful in all God's house. "Yet Jesus is worthy of more glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself. (For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God. )Now Moses was faithful in all God's house as a servant, to testify to the things that would be spoken later. Christ, however, was faithful over God's house as a son, and we are his house if we hold firm the confidence and the pride that belong to hope.

Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, as on the day of testing in the wilderness, where your ancestors put me to the test, though they had seen my worksfor forty years. Therefore I was angry with that generation, and I said, 'They always go astray in their hearts, and they have not known my ways. 'As in my anger I swore, 'They will not enter my rest. '"

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Thursday - Song of Moses

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

I will sing to/the Lord,
for he is lofty and up-lift-ed;
the horse and its rid-er
has he hurled into the sea.

The Lord is my strength and my ref-uge;
the Lord has be-come my Sav-ior.
This is my God and I will praise him,
the God of my people and I will ex-alt him.

The Lord is a mighty warri-or;
Yah-weh is his holy Name.
The chari-ots of Phar-oah and his ar-my
has he hurled into the sea;

The finest of those who bear ar-mor
have been drowned in/the Red Sea.
The fathom-less deep has over-whelmed them;
they sank into the depths like a stone.

Your right hand, O Lord,
is glori-ous and might-y;
your right hand, O Lord,
has over-thrown the ene-my.

Who can be com-pared with you,
O Lord, a-mong the gods?
who is like you,
glori-ous in ho-li-ness,

Awe-some in re-nown,
and work-er of won-ders?
You stretched forth your right hand;
the earth swal-lowed them up.

With your con-stant love
you led the people you re-deemed;
with your might you brought them in safe-ty
to your holy dwell-ing place.

You will bring them in and plant them
on the mount of your pos-ses-sion,
In/the rest-ing place
you have made for your-self, O Lord,

In/the sanctu-ary, O Lord,
that your hand has es-tab-lished.
The Lord shall reign
for ever and for ever. A-men!

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for ever A-men.

A reading from John 1:43-51

The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, "Follow me. "Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael and said to him, "We have found him about whom Moses in the law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus son of Joseph from Nazareth. "Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth? " Philip said to him, "Come and see. "When Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him, he said of him, "Here is truly an Israelite in whom there is no deceit!"Nathanael asked him, "Where did you get to know me? " Jesus answered, "I saw you under the fig tree before Philip called you. "Nathanael replied, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!"Jesus answered, "Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than these. "And he said to him, "Very truly, I tell you, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man. "

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Glory to you, Lord God of our fath-ers;
you are worthy of praise; glory to you.
Glory to you for/the radi-ance of your holy Name;

on the throne of your maj-es-ty, glory to you.

we will praise you and highly ex-alt you for ev-er.

Glory to you, be-hold-ing the depths;

LEVAS2 Hymn 264 - Our Father

Piano    Parts    Soprano    Alto    Tenor    Bass

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil:
for thine is the kingdom, and the power,
and the glory, forever,
Amen.

We en-treat you, O Lord.

Collect of the Day

Almighty God, whose blessed Son our Savior Jesus Christ ascended far above all heavens that he might fill all things: Mercifully give us faith to perceive that, according to his promise, he abides with his Church on earth, even to the end of the ages; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting.

Amen.

A Collect for Guidance

Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our being: We humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget you, but may remember that we are ever walking in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Prayer for Mission

O God, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth, and sent your blessed Son to preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near: Grant that people everywhere may seek after you and find you; bring the nations into your fold; pour out your Spirit upon all flesh; and hasten the coming of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

A Prayer of Saint Chrysostom

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Al-might-y God,
you have given us grace at this time
with one ac-cord
to make our common suppli-cation to you;

and you have prom-ised
through your well be-loved Son
that when two/or three are gathered in his Name
you will be in/the midst of them:

Ful-fill now, O Lord, our de-sires and pe-ti-tions
as may be best for us;
granting us in this world knowledge of your truth,
and in/the age to come life ever-lasting. A-men.
