Grace to you and peace from God our Fa-ther
and from/the Lord Je-sus Christ.
Worship the Lord in/the beauty of his holi-ness;
let/the whole earth trem-ble be-fore him.
Let my prayer be set forth/in your sight as in-cense,
the lifting up/of my hands as/the evening sacri-fice.
I will bless the Lord who gives/me coun-sel;
my heart teaches me, night after night.
I have set/the Lord always be-fore me;
be-cause he is/at my right hand, I shall not fall.
O God, make speed/to save us.
O Lord, make haste/to help us.
Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.
Friday - O Gracious Light
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto PDF All
O gracious light, pure bright-ness
of the ever-living Father in heav-en,
O Je-sus Christ, holy and bless-ed!
we sing your praises, O God!
Now as/we come to/the setting of/the sun,
and our eyes be-hold/the vesper light,
we sing your praises, O God:
Father, Son, and Ho-ly Spi-rit.
You are worthy at all times
to be praised by happy voic-es,
O Son of God, O Giver of life,
and/to be glori-fied through all the worlds.
Psalms
Psalm 35
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto PDF All
O Lord, fight those/who fight with me!
At-tack those/who at-tack me!
Grab your small shield/and large shield,
and rise up to help me!
Use your spear and lance
a-gainst those who chase me!
As-sure/me with these words:
I am your de-liver-er!
May those/who seek my life
be/em-barrassed and hu-mili-at-ed!
May those/who plan/to harm me
be turned back and a-shamed!
May they/be like wind driven chaff,
as/the Lord's angel at-tacks them!
May their path be dark and slipper-y,
as the Lord's angel chases them!
I did not harm them,
but they hid/a net/to catch me
and dug/a pit/to trap me.
Let de-struction take/them by sur-prise!
Let/the net they hid catch them!
Let them fall into de-struc-tion!
Then I will/re-joice in/the Lord
and be happy be-cause/of his de-liver-ance.
With all my strength I/will say,
O Lord, who can/com-pare to you?
You res-cue the op-pressed
from those/who try/to over-pow-er them;
the/op-pressed and need-y
from those/who try to rob them.
Vio-lent men perjure them-selves,
and false-ly ac-cuse me.
They/re-pay me evil for/the good I/have done;
I am over-whelmed with sor-row.
When they/were sick, I wore sack-cloth,
and/re-frained from eat-ing food.
If I am ly-ing,
may my prayers go un-an-swered!
I mourned for them
as I would for/a friend or/my broth-er.
I bowed down in sor-row
as/if I were mourning for/my moth-er.
But when/I stum-bled,
they/re-joiced and gathered to-geth-er;
they gathered to-gether to am-bush me.
They tore/at me without stopping to rest.
When I stum-bled,
they taunted me re-lentless-ly,
and tried to bite me.
O Lord, how long/are you going to watch this?
Res-cue me from their de-structive at-tacks;
guard my life from/the young li-ons!
Then I/will give/you thanks in/the great/as-sem-bly;
I/will praise you/be-fore/a large crowd of peo-ple!
Don't let/my ene-mies gloat over me!
Don't let those/who hate me carry out their schemes!
For/they don't try/to make peace with oth-ers,
but plan ways to de-ceive
those/who live peaceful-ly in/the land.
They are ready to de-vour me;
they say, A-ha! Aha! We've got you!
But you take notice, Lord; don't be si-lent!
O Lord, don't re-main far/a-way from me!
Rouse/your-self, wake up and vindi-cate me!
My God and Lord, de-fend my just cause!
Vindi-cate me by your justice, O Lord my God!
Don't let them gloat over me!
Don't let/them say/to them-selves, A-ha!
We have what we want-ed!
Don't let/them say, We have de-voured him!
May those who/re-joice in/my trou-bles
be total-ly em-barrassed and a-shamed!
May those/who arro-gantly taunt me be covered with shame
May those/who de-sire my vindi-ca-tion
shout for joy and/re-joice!
May they con-tinual-ly say, May/the Lord be praised,
for/he wants his servant to be se-cure.
Then I/will tell others a-bout your jus-tice,
and praise you all day long.
May/the Lord be praised for-ev-er!
Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.
Readings
A reading from Hebrews 7:1-17
This "King Melchizedek of Salem, priest of the Most High God, met Abraham as he was returning from defeating the kings and blessed him";and to him Abraham apportioned "one-tenth of everything. " His name, in the first place, means "king of righteousness"; next he is also king of Salem, that is, "king of peace. "Without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but resembling the Son of God, he remains a priest forever. See how great he is! Even Abraham the patriarch gave him a tenth of the spoils. And those descendants of Levi who receive the priestly office have a commandment in the law to collect tithes from the people, that is, from their kindred, though these also are descended from Abraham. But this man, who does not belong to their ancestry, collected tithes from Abraham and blessed him who had received the promises. It is beyond dispute that the inferior is blessed by the superior. In the one case, tithes are received by those who are mortal; in the other, by one of whom it is testified that he lives. One might even say that Levi himself, who receives tithes, paid tithes through Abraham, for he was still in the loins of his ancestor when Melchizedek met him.
Now if perfection had been attainable through the levitical priesthoodfor the people received the law under this priesthoodwhat further need would there have been to speak of another priest arising according to the order of Melchizedek, rather than one according to the order of Aaron? For when there is a change in the priesthood, there is necessarily a change in the law as well. Now the one of whom these things are spoken belonged to another tribe, from which no one has ever served at the altar. For it is evident that our Lord was descended from Judah, and in connection with that tribe Moses said nothing about priests. It is even more obvious when another priest arises, resembling Melchizedek, one who has become a priest, not through a legal requirement concerning physical descent, but through the power of an indestructible life. For it is attested of him, "You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek. "
Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!
Friday - Song to the Lamb
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto PDF All
Splendor and honor and king-ly power
are yours by right, O Lord our God,
For you cre-ated every-thing that is,
and by your will they were cre-ated and have their be-ing;
And yours by right, O Lamb that was slain,
for with your blood you have re-deemed for God,
From eve-ry fami-ly, lan-guage, people, and na-tion,
a kingdom of priests to serve our God.
And so, to him who sits up-on/the throne,
and to Je-sus Christ the Lamb,
Be worship and praise, do-min-ion and splen-dor,
for-ever and for-ever-more.
Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.
A reading from John 4:16-26
Jesus said to her, "Go, call your husband, and come back. "The woman answered him, "I have no husband. " Jesus said to her, "You are right in saying, 'I have no husband';for you have had five husbands, and the one you have now is not your husband. What you have said is true!"The woman said to him, "Sir, I see that you are a prophet. Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you say that the place where people must worship is in Jerusalem. "Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such as these to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth. "The woman said to him, "I know that Messiah is coming" (who is called Christ). "When he comes, he will proclaim all things to us. "Jesus said to her, "I am he, the one who is speaking to you. "
Here ends the reading.

Friday - Third Song of Isaiah
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto PDF All
A-rise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of/the Lord has dawned up-on you.
For/be-hold, darkness covers the land;
deep gloom en-shrouds the peo-ples.
But over you the Lord will rise,
and his glory will/ap-pear up-on you.
Nations will stream to your light,
and kings to/the brightness of your dawn-ing.
Your gates will always be o-pen;
by day or night they will never be shut.
They will call you, The City of/the Lord,
The Zion of/the Holy One of Is-ra-el.
Vio-lence will/no more be heard in your land,
ruin or de-struction with-in your bor-ders.
You will call your walls, Sal-va-tion,
and all your por-tals, Praise.
The sun will/no more be your light by day;
by night you will/not need the brightness of/the moon.
The Lord will be your ever-last-ing light,
and your God will be your glo-ry.
Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for ever. A-men.

Collect of the Day
O God, the King of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven: Do not leave us comfortless, but send us your Holy Spirit to strengthen us, and exalt us to that place where our Savior Christ has gone before; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting.
Amen.
A Collect for Fridays
Lord Jesus Christ, by your death you took away the sting of death: Grant to us your servants so to follow in faith where you have led the way, that we may at length fall asleep peacefully in you and wake up in your likeness; for your tender mercies' sake.
Amen.
Prayer for Mission
O God and Father of all, whom the whole heavens adore: Let the whole earth also worship you, all nations obey you, all tongues confess and bless you, and men and women everywhere love you and serve you in peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
A Prayer of Saint Chrysostom
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto PDF All
Al-might-y God,
you have given us grace at this time
with one ac-cord
to make our common suppli-cation to you;
and you have prom-ised
through your well be-loved Son
that when two/or three are gathered in his Name
you will be in/the midst of them:
Ful-fill now, O Lord, our de-sires and pe-ti-tions
as may be best for us;
granting us in this world knowledge of your truth,
and in/the age to come life ever-lasting. A-men.
