Invitation

Sunday - Christmas Invitation

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Be-hold, I bring you good news of great joy,
which will come to all the peo-ple;
for unto you is born this day
in the city of Da-vid,

a Sav-ior, who is Christ the Lord.
Be-hold, the dwelling of God is with man-kind.
He will dwell with them,
and they shall be his peo-ple,

and God him-self will be with them,
and He will be their God.
Lord, o-pen our lips.
And our mouth shall pro-claim your praise.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Sunday - Jubilate

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Be joy-ful in/the Lord, all you lands;
serve the Lord with glad-ness
and come be-fore his presence with a song.
Know this: The Lord him-self is God;

He him-self has made us, and we are his;
we are his people and the sheep of his pas-ture.
Enter his gates with thanks-giv-ing;
go into his courts with praise;

Give thanks to him and call on his Name.
Be-cause the Lord is good;
his mercy is ever last-ing;
and his faithful-ness en-dures from age to age.

Psalms

Psalm 28

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

To you, O Lord, I cry out!
My pro-tector, do not ig-nore me!
If you don't re-spond to me,
I will join those who are de-scending into the grave.

Hear my plea for mer-cy
when I cry out to you for help,
when I lift my hands toward your holy tem-ple!
Don't drag me a-way with evil men,

Or with those who be-have wicked-ly,
who talk so friendly to their neigh-bor,
while they plan to harm them!
Pay them back for their evil deeds!

Pay them back for what/they do! Pun-ish them!
For they don't under-stand the Lord's ac-tions,
or the way he carries out jus-tice.
The Lord will perma-nently de-molish them.

The Lord de-serves my praise,
For he has heard my plea for mer-cy!
The Lord strengthens and pro-tects me;
I trust in him with all my heart.

I am rescued and my heart/is full of joy;
I will sing to him in grati-tude.
The Lord strengthens his peo-ple;
he pro-tects and de-livers his chosen king.

De-liver your people, O God!
Em-power the nation that be-longs to you!
Care for them like a shep-herd
and carry them in your arms at all times!

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Psalm 30

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

I will praise you, O Lord, for you lifted me up,
and did not/al-low my ene-mies to gloat over me.
O Lord my God, I cried out/to you and you healed me.
O Lord, you pulled me up from She-ol;

you rescued me from/a-mong those de-scending into the grave.
Sing to/the Lord, you faithful follow-ers of his;
give thanks to his holy name.
For his anger lasts only a brief mo-ment,

and his good favor re-stores one's life.
One may ex-peri-ence sorrow during the night,
but joy ar-rives in/the morn-ing.
In my self-confi-dence I said, I will never be shak-en.

O Lord, in your good favor you made me se-cure.
Then you re-jected me and I was terri-fied.
To you, O Lord, I cried out;
I begged the Lord for mer-cy:

What profit is there in taking my life,
in my de-scending into the Pit?
Can/the dust of/the grave praise you?
Can it/de-clare your loy-al-ty?

Hear, O Lord, and have mercy on me!
O Lord my God, de-liver me!
Then you turned my/la-ment into danc-ing;
you re-moved my sack-cloth

You covered me with joy.
So now my heart will sing to you
and I will not be si-lent;
O Lord my God, I will always give thanks to you.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Readings

A reading from 2 Chronicles 24:17-22

Now after the death of Jehoiada the officials of Judah came and did obeisance to the king; then the king listened to them. They abandoned the house of the LORD, the God of their ancestors, and served the sacred poles and the idols. And wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this guilt of theirs. Yet he sent prophets among them to bring them back to the LORD; they testified against them, but they would not listen. Then the spirit of God took possession of Zechariah son of the priest Jehoiada; he stood above the people and said to them, "Thus says God: Why do you transgress the commandments of the LORD, so that you cannot prosper? Because you have forsaken the LORD, he has also forsaken you. "But they conspired against him, and by command of the king they stoned him to death in the court of the house of the LORD. King Joash did not remember the kindness that Jehoiada, Zechariah's father, had shown him, but killed his son. As he was dying, he said, "May the LORD see and avenge!"

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Sunday - First Song of Isaiah

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Surely, it/is God who saves me;
I/will trust in him and not be/a-fraid.
For/the Lord is my stronghold and my sure de-fense,
and he will be my Sav-ior.

Therefore you shall draw water with re-joic-ing
from/the springs of sal-va-tion.
And/on that day you shall say,
Give thanks to/the Lord and call up-on his Name;

Make his deeds known/a-mong the peo-ples;
see that they re-member that his Name is ex-alt-ed.
Sing the praises of/the Lord,
for he has done great things,

And this/is known in all the world.
Cry/a-loud, in-habit-ants of Zion, ring out your joy,
for/the great one in/the midst of you
is the Holy One of Is-ra-el.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

A reading from Acts 6:1-7

Now during those days, when the disciples were increasing in number, the Hellenists complained against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution of food. And the twelve called together the whole community of the disciples and said, "It is not right that we should neglect the word of God in order to wait on tables. Therefore, friends, select from among yourselves seven men of good standing, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint to this task, while we, for our part, will devote ourselves to prayer and to serving the word. "What they said pleased the whole community, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, together with Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch. They had these men stand before the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them. The word of God continued to spread; the number of the disciples increased greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests became obedient to the faith.

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Amen.
