Evening Prayer - Tuesday December 21 2021

St. Thomas the Apostle

Confession

Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you
in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done,
and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will,
and walk in your ways,
to the glory of your Name.

Amen

May Almighty God have mercy on us,
forgive us all our sins
through our Lord Jesus Christ,
strengthen us in all goodness,
and by the power of the Holy Spirit
keep us in eternal life.

Amen

Tuesday - Evensong Invitation

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Grace to you and peace from God our Fa-ther
and from/the Lord Je-sus Christ.
Wor-ship the Lord in/the beau-ty of his holi-ness;
let the whole earth trem-ble be-fore him.

Let my prayer be set forth in your sight as in-cense,
the lifting up of my hands as the eve-ning sacri-fice.
I will bless the Lord who gives me coun-sel;
my heart teaches me, night after night.

I have set the Lord al-ways be-fore me;
be-cause he is at my right hand, I shall not fall.
O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

O Gracious Light

O gracious Light,
pure brightness of the
everliving Father in heaven.
O Jesus, Christ, holy and blessed!

Now as we come to the setting of the sun,
and our eyes behold the vesper light,
we sing your praises, O God:
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

You are worthy at all times
to be praised by happy voices,
O Son of God, O Giver of life,
and to be glorified through all the worlds.

Psalm 27

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

The Lord de-livers and vindi-cates me!
I fear no one! The Lord pro-tects my life!
I am a-fraid of no one!
When evil men at-tack me to de-vour my flesh,

When my ene-mies at-tack me, they stumble and fall.
When/an ar-my is de-ployed a-gainst me, I do not fear.
Even when war is immi-nent, I re-main confi-dent.
I have asked the Lord for one thing

This is what I de-sire!
I want to live in/the Lord's house
all the days of my life,
so I can gaze at/the splendor of/the Lord

and contem-plate in his tem-ple.
He will surely give me shelter in/the day of dan-ger;
he will hide me in his home;
he will place me on an inac-cessi-ble rocky sum-mit.

Now I will triumph over my ene-mies who sur-round me!
I will offer sacri-fices in his temple and shout for joy!
I will sing praises to/the Lord!
Hear me, O Lord, when I cry out!

Have mercy on me and answer me!
My heart tells me to pray to you,
and so I do pray to you,
O Lord, don't re-ject me!

Don't push your servant a-way in an-ger!
You are my de-liver-er!
Don't for-sake or/a-bandon me,
O God who vindi-cates me!

Even if my parents a-bandoned me,
the Lord would take me in.
Teach me how you want me to live, Lord;
lead me a-long a level path

Be-cause/of those who wait/to am-bush me!
Don't turn me over to my ene-mies,
for false witness-es testi-fy a-gainst me.
Where would I be if I did/not be-lieve in God?

I will ex-peri[#pIri-ence the Lord's favor in life.
Let us re-ly on/the Lord!
Be strong and confi-dent!
Let us re-ly on/the Lord!

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Readings

A reading from Isaiah 43:8-13

Bring forth the people who are blind, yet have eyes, who are deaf, yet have ears!Let all the nations gather together, and let the peoples assemble. Who among them declared this, and foretold to us the former things? Let them bring their witnesses to justify them, and let them hear and say, "It is true. "You are my witnesses, says the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after me. I, I am the LORD, and besides me there is no savior. I declared and saved and proclaimed, when there was no strange god among you; and you are my witnesses, says the LORD. I am God, and also henceforth I am He; there is no one who can deliver from my hand; I work and who can hinder it?

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Tuesday - First Song of Isaiah

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Surely, it/is God who saves me;
I/will trust in him and not be/a-fraid.
For/the Lord is my stronghold and my sure de-fense,
and he will be my Sav-ior.

Therefore you shall draw water with re-joic-ing
from/the springs of sal-va-tion.
And/on that day you shall say,
Give thanks to/the Lord and call up-on his Name;

Make his deeds known/a-mong the peo-ples;
see that they re-member that his Name is ex-alt-ed.
Sing the praises of/the Lord,
for he has done great things,

And this/is known in all the world.
Cry/a-loud, in-habit-ants of Zion, ring out your joy,
for/the great one in/the midst of you
is the Holy One of Is-ra-el.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

A reading from John 14:1-7

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also.

And you know the way to the place where I am going. "Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way? "Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him. "

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

LEVAS2 Hymn 264 - Our Father

Piano    Parts    Soprano    Alto    Tenor    Bass

The Lord be with you.
And with thy spirit.
Let us pray.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

Al-might-y God,
you have given us grace at this time
with one ac-cord

through your well be-loved Son

you will be in/the midst of them:

Ful-fill now, O Lord, our de-sires and pe-ti-tions
as may be best for us;
granting us in this world knowledge of your truth,
