Invitation

Sunday - Pentecost Invitation

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

The Lord is in his holy tem-ple;
let all the earth keep silence be-fore him
I was glad when they said to me,
Let us go to/the house of/the Lord.

Let the words of my mouth
and the medi-ta-tion of my heart
be ac-cepta-ble in your sight, O Lord,
my strength and my re-deem-er.

Thus says the high and lofty One
who in-habits e-terni-ty,
whose name is Ho-ly,
I dwell in/the high and holy place

Send out your light
and your truth, that they may lead me,
and bring me to your holy hill
and to your dwel-ling place.

Give thanks to/the Lord, and call on his Name;
make known his deeds a-mong the peo-ples.
Lord, o-pen our lips.
And our mouth shall pro-claim your praise.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for ever A-men.

Sunday - Jubilate

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Be joy-ful in/the Lord, all you lands;
serve the Lord with glad-ness
and come be-fore his presence with a song.
Know this: The Lord him-self is God;

He him-self has made us, and we are his;
we are his people and the sheep of his pas-ture.
Enter his gates with thanks-giv-ing;
go into his courts with praise;

Give thanks to him and call on his Name.
Be-cause the Lord is good;
his mercy is ever last-ing;
and his faithful-ness en-dures from age to age.

Psalms

Psalm 146

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul!
I will praise the Lord as long/as I live!
I will sing praises to my God as long/as I ex-ist!
Do/not trust in princes, or/in man kind, who can-not de-liv-er!

Their life's breath de-parts,
they re-turn to/the ground; on/that day their plans die.
How blessed is the one whose helper is the God of Ja-cob,
whose hope is in/the Lord his God,

the one who made heaven and earth,
the seas, and all that is in them,
who re-mains for-ever faith-ful,
and vindi-cates the op-pressed,

The Lord gives food to/the hun-gry.
The Lord re-leases the im-pris-oned.
The Lord gives sight to/the blind.
The Lord lifts up all who are bent o-ver.

The Lord loves the god-ly.
The Lord pro-tects the resi-dent foreign-er;
he lifts up the fa-ther-less
and cares _ for/the wid-ow,

But he op-poses the wick-ed.
The Lord rules for-ever, your God, O Zi-on,
through-out the gener-a-tions to come!
Praise the Lord for-ev-er!

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Psalm 147

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Praise the Lord, for it is good
to sing praises to our God!
Yes, praise is pleasant and ap-pro-pri-ate!
The Lord re-builds Je-rusa-lem,

And gathers the ex-iles of Is-ra-el.
He heals the broken-heart-ed,
and banda-ges their wounds.
He counts the stars and names them all.

Our Lord is great and has awe-some power;
there is no limit to his wis-dom.
The Lord lifts up the op-pressed,
but knocks the wicked to/the ground.

Offer to/the Lord a song of thanks!
Sing praises to our God to/the ac-com-pani-ment of a harp!
He covers the sky with clouds,
He pro-vides the earth with rain,

And causes grass to grow on/the hill-side.
He gives food to/the ani-mals,
and to/the young ravens when they chirp.
He is not en-a-mored with/the strength of/a horse,

Nor is he im-pressed by/the warri-or's strong legs.
The Lord takes de-light in his faithful follow-ers,
and in those who wait for his loyal love.
Ex-tol the Lord, O Je-rusa-lem! Praise your God, O Zi-on!

For he makes the bars of your gates strong.
He blesses your children with-in you.
He brings peace to your terri-to-ry.
He a-bun-dantly pro-vides for you the best grain.

He sends his com-mand through the earth;
swift-ly his order reaches its desti-na-tion.
He sends the snow that/is white like wool;
He spreads the frost that/is white like ash-es.

He throws his hail-stones like crumbs.
Who can/with-stand the cold wind he sends?
He then orders it all to melt;
He breathes on it, and the water flows.

He pro-claims his word to Ja-cob,
his statutes] and regu-la-tions to Is-ra-el.
He has not done so with any other na-tion;
they are not/a-ware of his regu-la-tions. Praise the Lord!

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Readings

A reading from Amos 1:1-5,13-2:8

The words of Amos, who was among the shepherds of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of King Uzziah of Judah and in the days of King Jeroboam son of Joash of Israel, two years before the earthquake. And he said: The LORD roars from Zion, and utters his voice from Jerusalem; the pastures of the shepherds wither, and the top of Carmel dries up.

Thus says the LORD: For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment; because they have threshed Gilead with threshing sledges of iron. So I will send a fire on the house of Hazael, and it shall devour the strongholds of Ben-hadad. I will break the gate bars of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitants from the Valley of Aven, and the one who holds the scepter from Beth-eden; and the people of Aram shall go into exile to Kir, says the LORD. Thus says the LORD: For three transgressions of the Ammonites, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment; because they have ripped open pregnant women in Gilead in order to enlarge their territory. So I will kindle a fire against the wall of Rabbah, fire that shall devour its strongholds, with shouting on the day of battle, with a storm on the day of the whirlwind;then their king shall go into exile, he and his officials together, says the LORD.

Thus says the LORD: For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment; because he burned to lime the bones of the king of Edom. So I will send a fire on Moab, and it shall devour the strongholds of Kerioth, and Moab shall die amid uproar, amid shouting and the sound of the trumpet;I will cut off the ruler from its midst, and will kill all its officials with him, says the LORD. Thus says the LORD: For three transgressions of Judah, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment; because they have rejected the law of the LORD, and have not kept his statutes, but they have been led astray by the same lies after which their ancestors walked. So I will send a fire on Judah, and it shall devour the strongholds of Jerusalem. Thus says the LORD: For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment; because they sell the righteous for silver, and the needy for a pair of sandals—they who trample the head of the poor into the dust of the earth, and push the afflicted out of the way; father and son go in to the same girl, so that my holy name is profaned;they lay themselves down beside every altar on garments taken in pledge; and in the house of their God they drink wine bought with fines they imposed.

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Sunday - First Song of Isaiah

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Sure-ly, it is God who saves me;
I will trust in him and not be a-fraid.
For the Lord is my stronghold and my sure de-fense,
and he will be my Sav-ior.

There-fore you shall draw water with re-joic-ing
from the springs of sal-va-tion.
And on that day you shall say,
Give thanks to/the Lord and call up-on his Name;

Make his deeds known a-mong the peo-ples;
see that they re-member that his Name is ex-alt-ed.
Sing the praises of/the Lord,
for he has done great things,

And this is known in all the world.
Cry a-loud, in-habit-ants of Zi-on, ring out your joy,
for the great one in/the midst of you
is the Ho-ly One of Is-ra-el.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

A reading from Luke 21:5-19

When some were speaking about the temple, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and gifts dedicated to God, he said,"As for these things that you see, the days will come when not one stone will be left upon another; all will be thrown down. "They asked him, "Teacher, when will this be, and what will be the sign that this is about to take place?"And he said, "Beware that you are not led astray; for many will come in my name and say, 'I am he!' and, 'The time is near!' Do not go after them. "When you hear of wars and insurrections, do not be terrified; for these things must take place first, but the end will not follow immediately. "Then he said to them, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom;there will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and plagues; and there will be dreadful portents and great signs from heaven. "But before all this occurs, they will arrest you and persecute you; they will hand you over to synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors because of my name. This will give you an opportunity to testify. So make up your minds not to prepare your defense in advance;for I will give you words and a wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to withstand or contradict. You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, by relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death. You will be hated by all because of my name. But not a hair of your head will perish. By your endurance you will gain your souls.

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

We be-lieve in God, the Fath-er al-might-y,

We be-lieve in Je-sus Christ,
his on-ly son, our Lord.

He was con-ceived by/the power of/the Ho-ly Spi-rit

He suffered under Pon-tius Pi-late,
was cruci-fied, died, and was bur-ied.

He de-scended to/the dead.
On the third day he rose a-gain.
He a-scended into heav-en,
and is seated at/the right hand of/the Fath-er.

He will come a-gain
to judge the living and the dead.
We be-lieve in/the Ho-ly Spi-rit,
the _ holy catho-lic Church,

the com-mun-ion of saints,
the for-give-ness of sins,
the resur-rec-tion of/the bod-y,
and the life ever-last-ing. A-men.

For the king-dom, the pow-er,

Show us your mer-cy, O Lord;
And grant us your sal-va-tion.
Clothe your minis-ters with righteous-ness;
Let your people sing with joy.

Give peace, O Lord, in all the world;
For only in you can we live in safe-ty.
Lord, keep this na-tion under your care;
And guide us in/the way of justice and truth.

Let your way be known up-on earth;
Your sav-ing health a-mong all na-tions.

Nor the hope of/the poor be taken a-way.

Cre-ate in us clean hearts, O God;
And sus-tain us with your Ho-ly Spi-rit.
Show us your mer-cy, O Lord;
And grant us your sal-va-tion.

Collect of the Day

O God, you have prepared for those who love you such good things as surpass our understanding: Pour into our hearts such love towards you, that we, loving you in all things and above all things, may obtain your promises, which exceed all that we can desire; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Amen.

A Collect for Sundays

Lord God, whose Son our Savior Jesus Christ triumphed over the powers of death and prepared for us our place in the new Jerusalem: Grant that we, who have this day given thanks for his resurrection, may praise you in that City of which he is the light, and where he lives and reigns for ever and ever.

Amen.

Prayer for Mission

O God and Father of all, whom the whole heavens adore: Let the whole earth also worship you, all nations obey you, all tongues confess and bless you, and men and women everywhere love you and serve you in peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.
