Saturday - Advent Invitation

Watch, for you know not when
the master of/the house will come,
at dusk, by night, at dawn, or by day;
lest he come sudden-ly and find you a-sleep.
In/the wilder-ness pre-pare the way of/the Lord,
make straight in/the desert a highway for our God.
The glory of/the Lord shall be re-vealed,
and all flesh shall see/it to-geth-er.
The hour is coming, and now is,
when the true wor-ship-ers
will wor-ship the Fath-er
in spi-rit and in truth,
for such are the follow-ers
the Fath-er seeks to wor-ship him.
Lord, o-pen our lips.
And our mouths shall pro-claim your praise.
Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.
Saturday - Jubilate
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto PDF All
Be joy-ful in/the Lord, all you lands;
serve the Lord with glad-ness
and come be-fore his presence with a song.
Know this: The Lord him-self is God;
He him-self has made us, and we are his;
we are his people and the sheep of his pas-ture.
Enter his gates with thanks-giv-ing;
go into his courts with praise;
Give thanks to him and call on his Name.
Be-cause the Lord is good;
his mercy is ever last-ing;
and his faithful-ness en-dures from age to age.
Psalms
Psalm 20
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto PDF All
May the Lord answer you when you are in trou-ble;
May the God of Ja-cob make you se-cure!
May he send you help from his tem-ple;
from Zi-on may he give you sup-port!
May he take notice of all your offer-ings;
May he ac-cept your burnt sacri-fice!
May he grant your hearts de-sire;
may he bring all your plans to pass!
Then we will shout for joy over your vic-to-ry;
we will re-joice in/the name of our God!
May the Lord grant all your re-quests!
Now I am sure that/the Lord will de-liver his chosen king;
he will inter-vene for him from his holy heaven-ly tem-ple,
and dis-play his mighty a-bili-ty to de-liv-er.
Some trust in chari-ots and others in hors-es,
but we de-pend on/the Lord our God.
They will fall down,
but we will stand firm be-fore God.
The Lord will de-liver the king;
he will answer us when we call to him for help!
Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.
Psalm 21
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto PDF All
O Lord, the king re-joic-es
in the strength you have giv-en;
he takes great de-light
in the de-liver-ance you pro-vide.
You grant him his heart's de-sire;
you do/not re-fuse his re-quest.
For you bring him rich bles-sings;
you place a golden crown on his head.
He asked you to sus-tain his life,
and you have granted him long life
and an en-during dy-nas-ty.
Your de-liver-ance brings him great hon-or;
You give him ma-jestic splen-dor.
For you grant him last-ing bles-sings;
you give him great joy
by al-lowing him into your pres-ence.
For the king trusts in/the Lord,
and be-cause of/the Most High's faithful-ness
the king is not shak-en.
You pre-vail over all your ene-mies;
Your power is too great for those who hate you.
You burn them up like/a fier-y furnace when you ap-pear;
the Lord an-grily de-vours them;
and his fire con-sumes them.
You de-stroy their off-spring from/the earth,
their de-scendants from a-mong the human race.
Yes, they in-tend to do you harm;
they dream up schemes, but do not suc-ceed.
For you make them re-treat
when you aim your arrows at them.
Rise up, O Lord, in strength!
We will sing and praise your power!
Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.
Readings
A reading from Amos 5:18-27
Alas for you who desire the day of the LORD! Why do you want the day of the LORD? It is darkness, not light;as if someone fled from a lion, and was met by a bear; or went into the house and rested a hand against the wall, and was bitten by a snake. Is not the day of the LORD darkness, not light, and gloom with no brightness in it?
I hate, I despise your festivals, and I take no delight in your solemn assemblies. Even though you offer me your burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them; and the offerings of well-being of your fatted animals I will not look upon. Take away from me the noise of your songs; I will not listen to the melody of your harps. But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an everflowing stream. Did you bring to me sacrifices and offerings the forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?You shall take up Sakkuth your king, and Kaiwan your star-god, your images, which you made for yourselves;therefore I will take you into exile beyond Damascus, says the LORD, whose name is the God of hosts.
Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!
Saturday - Third Song of Isaiah
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto PDF All
A-rise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of/the Lord has dawned up-on you.
For be-hold, dark-ness covers the land;
deep gloom en-shrouds the peo-ples.
But over you the Lord will rise,
and his glory will ap-pear up-on you.
Na-tions will stream to your light,
and kings to/the bright-ness of your dawn-ing.
Your gates will al-ways be o-pen;
by day or night they will never be shut.
They will call you, The City of/the Lord,
The Zi-on of/the Ho-ly One of Is-ra-el.
Vio-lence will/no more be heard in your land,
ru-in or de-struc-tion with-in your bor-ders.
You will call your walls, Sal-va-tion,
and all your por-tals, Praise.
The sun will/no more be your light by day;
by night you will/not need the brightness of/the moon.
The Lord will be your ever-last-ing light,
and your God will be your glo-ry.
Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for ever. A-men.
A reading from Matthew 22:15-22
Then the Pharisees went and plotted to entrap him in what he said. So they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are sincere, and teach the way of God in accordance with truth, and show deference to no one; for you do not regard people with partiality. Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to the emperor, or not?"But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, "Why are you putting me to the test, you hypocrites?Show me the coin used for the tax. " And they brought him a denarius. Then he said to them, "Whose head is this, and whose title?"They answered, "The emperor's. " Then he said to them, "Give therefore to the emperor the things that are the emperor's, and to God the things that are God's. "When they heard this, they were amazed; and they left him and went away.
Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!
Saturday - You are God
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto PDF All
You are God: we praise you;
You are the Lord; we ac-claim you;
You are the e-ter-nal Fath-er:
All cre-a-tion wor-ships you.
To you all an-gels, all the powers of heav-en,
Cher-u-bim and Ser-a-phim, sing in end-less praise:
Holy, ho-ly, holy Lord, God of power and might,
heav-en and earth are full of your glo-ry.
The glori-ous compan-y of a-postles praises you.
The no-ble fellow-ship of proph-ets praises you.
The white-robed army of mar-tyrs praises you.
Through-out the world the holy Church ac-claims you;
Fath-er, of majes-ty un-bound-ed,
your true and only Son, worthy of all wor-ship,
and the Ho-ly Spi-rit, advo-cate and guide.
Three in one, we praise you for ev-er.
You, Christ, are the king of glo-ry,
the e-ter-nal Son of/the Fath-er.
When you be-came man to set us free
you did not shun the Vir-gin's womb.
You over-came the sting of death
and o-pened the kingdom of heaven to all be-liev-ers.
You are seated at God's right hand in glo-ry.
We be-lieve that you will come and be our judge.
Come then, Lord, and help your peo-ple,
bought with/the price of your own blood,
and bring us with your saints
to glo-ry ever-last-ing.
Prayers
Saturday Creed

We be-lieve in God, the Fath-er al-might-y,
cre-a-tor of heaven and earth.
We be-lieve in Je-sus Christ,
his on-ly son, our Lord.
He was con-ceived by/the power of/the Ho-ly Spi-rit
and born of/the Vir-gin Mar-y.
He suffered under Pon-tius Pi-late,
was cruci-fied, died, and was bur-ied.
He de-scended to/the dead.
On the third day he rose a-gain.
He a-scended into heav-en,
and is seated at/the right hand of/the Fath-er.
He will come a-gain
to judge the living and the dead.
We be-lieve in/the Ho-ly Spi-rit,
the _ holy catho-lic Church,
the com-mun-ion of saints,
the for-give-ness of sins,
the resur-rec-tion of/the bod-y,
and the life ever-last-ing. A-men.
Saturday - Our Father
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto PDF All
The Lord be with you.
And al-so with _ you.
Our Fath-er in heav-en,
hal-low-ed be your Name.
Your king-dom come,
your will be done on earth
as it is in heav-en.
Give us to-day our dai-ly bread.
For-give us our sins
as we _ for-give those
who sin a-gainst us.
Save us from/the time of tri-al,
De-liver us from e-vil.
For the king-dom, the pow-er,
and the glory are yours,
now and for-ever A-men.

Show us your mer-cy, O Lord;
And grant us your sal-va-tion.
Clothe your minis-ters with righteous-ness;
Let your people sing with joy.
Give peace, O Lord, in all the world;
For only in you can we live in safe-ty.
Lord, keep this na-tion under your care;
And guide us in/the way of justice and truth.
Let your way be known up-on earth;
Your sav-ing health a-mong all na-tions.
Let not the need-y, O Lord, be for-got-ten;
Nor the hope of/the poor be taken a-way.
Cre-ate in us clean hearts, O God;
And sus-tain us with your Ho-ly Spi-rit.
Show us your mer-cy, O Lord;
And grant us your sal-va-tion.

A Collect for Saturdays
Almighty God, who after the creation of the world rested from all your works and sanctified a day of rest for all your creatures: Grant that we, putting away all earthly anxieties, may be duly prepared for the service of your sanctuary, and that our rest here upon earth may be a preparation for the eternal rest promised to your people in heaven; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
