Invitation

Tuesday - Evensong Invitation

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Grace to you and peace from God our Fa-ther
and from/the Lord Je-sus Christ.
Wor-ship the Lord in/the beau-ty of his holi-ness;
let the whole earth trem-ble be-fore him.

Let my prayer be set forth in your sight as in-cense,
the lifting up of my hands as the eve-ning sacri-fice.
I will bless the Lord who gives me coun-sel;
my heart teaches me, night after night.

I have set the Lord al-ways be-fore me;
be-cause he is at my right hand, I shall not fall.
O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Tuesday - O Gracious Light

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

O gra-cious light, pure bright-ness
of the ever-liv-ing Fath-er in heav-en,
O Je-sus Christ, holy and bless-ed!
we sing your prais-es, O God!

Now as we come to/the setting of/the sun,
and our eyes be-hold the ves-per light,
we sing your prais-es, O God:
Fath-er, Son, and Ho-ly Spi-rit.

You are worthy at all times
to be praised by happy voic-es,
O Son of God, O Giver of life,
and to be glori-fied through all the worlds.

Psalms

Psalm 124

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

If the Lord had not been on our side
let Is-ra-el say this!
if the Lord had not been on our side,
when these men at-tacked us,

They would have swallowed us a-live,
when their an-ger raged a-gainst us.
The water would have over-pow-ered us;
the cur-rent would have over-whelmed us.

The raging wat-er would have over-whelmed us.
The Lord de-serves our praise,
for he did not hand us over as prey to their teeth.
We es-caped with our lives,

like a bird from/a hun-ters snare.
The snare broke, and we es-caped.
Our de-liver-er is the Lord,
the Cre-a-tor of heaven and earth.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Psalm 125

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Those who trust in/the Lord are like Mount Zi-on,
which can/not be moved and will en-dure for-ev-er.
As the mountains sur-round Je-ru-sa-lem,
so the Lord sur-rounds his peo-ple, now and for-ever-more.

In-deed, the scepter of a wicked king
will not settle up-on/the al-lot-ted land of/the god-ly.
Other-wise the god-ly might do what is wrong.
Do good, O Lord, to those who are moral-ly up-right!

As for those who are bent on travel-ing a sin-ful path,
may the Lord re-move them,
a-long with those who be-have wicked-ly!
May Is-ra-el ex-peri-ence peace!

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Psalm 126

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

When the Lord re-stored the well-being of Zi-on,
we thought we were dream-ing.
At that time we laughed loud-ly
and we shout-ed for joy.

At that time the na-tions said,
The Lord has ac-com-plished great things for these peo-ple.
The Lord did in-deed ac-com-plish great things for us.
We were happy and re-joiced.

O Lord, re-store our well-being,
just as the streams in/the ar-id south are re-plen-ished.
Those who shed tears as they plant-ed
will shout for joy when they reap the har-vest.

The one who weeps as he walks a-long,
carry-ing his bag of seed,
will certain-ly come in with/a shout of joy,
carry-ing his sheaves of grain.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Readings

A reading from 1 Peter 1:13-25

Therefore, get your minds ready for action by being fully sober, and set your hope completely on the grace that will be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed. Like obedient children, do not comply with the evil urges you used to follow in your ignorance, but, like the Holy One who called you, become holy yourselves in all of your conduct, for it is written, “You shall be holy, because I am holy.” And if you address as Father the one who impartially judges according to each one’s work, live out the time of your temporary residence here in reverence. You know that from your empty way of life inherited from your ancestors you were ransomed—not by perishable things like silver or gold, but by precious blood like that of an unblemished and spotless lamb, namely Christ. He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was manifested in these last times for your sake. Through him you now trust in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.

You have purified your souls by obeying the truth in order to show sincere mutual love. So love one another earnestly from a pure heart. You have been born anew, not from perishable but from imperishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God. For

all flesh is like grass

and all its glory like the flower of the grass;

the grass withers and the flower falls off,

but the word of the Lord endures forever.

And this is the word that was proclaimed to you.

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Tuesday - You are God

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

You are God: we praise you;
You are the Lord; we ac-claim you;
You are the e-ter-nal Fath-er:
All cre-a-tion wor-ships you.

To you all an-gels, all the powers of heav-en,
Cher-u-bim and Ser-a-phim, sing in end-less praise:
Holy, ho-ly, holy Lord, God of power and might,
heav-en and earth are full of your glo-ry.

The glori-ous compan-y of a-postles praises you.
The no-ble fellow-ship of proph-ets praises you.
The white-robed army of mar-tyrs praises you.
Through-out the world the holy Church ac-claims you;

Fath-er, of majes-ty un-bound-ed,
your true and only Son, worthy of all wor-ship,
and the Ho-ly Spi-rit, advo-cate and guide.
Three in one, we praise you for ev-er.

You, Christ, are the king of glo-ry,
the e-ter-nal Son of/the Fath-er.
When you be-came man to set us free
you did not shun the Vir-gin's womb.

You over-came the sting of death
and o-pened the kingdom of heaven to all be-liev-ers.
You are seated at God's right hand in glo-ry.
We be-lieve that you will come and be our judge.

Come then, Lord, and help your peo-ple,
bought with/the price of your own blood,
and bring us with your saints
to glo-ry ever-last-ing.

A reading from Matthew 19:13-22

Then little children were brought to him for him to lay his hands on them and pray. But the disciples scolded those who brought them. But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not try to stop them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these. ” And he placed his hands on them and went on his way.

Now someone came up to him and said, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to gain eternal life?”He said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments. ” “Which ones?” he asked. Jesus replied, “Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother, and love your neighbor as yourself. ” The young man said to him, “I have wholeheartedly obeyed all these laws. What do I still lack?” Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be perfect, go sell your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me. ” But when the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he was very rich.

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Tuesday - First Song of Isaiah

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Sure-ly, it is God who saves me;
I will trust in him and not be a-fraid.
For the Lord is my stronghold and my sure de-fense,
and he will be my Sav-ior.

There-fore you shall draw water with re-joic-ing
from the springs of sal-va-tion.
And on that day you shall say,
Give thanks to/the Lord and call up-on his Name;

Make his deeds known a-mong the peo-ples;
see that they re-member that his Name is ex-alt-ed.
Sing the praises of/the Lord,
for he has done great things,

And this is known in all the world.
Cry a-loud, in-habit-ants of Zi-on, ring out your joy,
for the great one in/the midst of you
is the Ho-ly One of Is-ra-el.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Prayers

Tuesday Creed

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

We be-lieve in God, the Fath-er al-might-y,
cre-a-tor of heaven and earth.
We be-lieve in Je-sus Christ,
his on-ly son, our Lord.

He was con-ceived by/the power of/the Ho-ly Spi-rit
and born of/the Vir-gin Mar-y.
He suffered under Pon-tius Pi-late,
was cruci-fied, died, and was bur-ied.

He de-scended to/the dead.
On the third day he rose a-gain.
He a-scended into heav-en,
and is seated at/the right hand of/the Fath-er.

He will come a-gain
to judge the living and the dead.
We be-lieve in/the Ho-ly Spi-rit,
the _ holy catho-lic Church,

the com-mun-ion of saints,
the for-give-ness of sins,
the resur-rec-tion of/the bod-y,
and the life ever-last-ing. A-men.

Tuesday - Our Father

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

The Lord be with you.
And al-so with _ you.
Our Fath-er in heav-en,
hal-low-ed be your Name.

Your king-dom come,
your will be done on earth
as it is in heav-en.
Give us to-day our dai-ly bread.

For-give us our sins
as we _ for-give those
who sin a-gainst us.
Save us from/the time of tri-al,

De-liver us from e-vil.
For the king-dom, the pow-er,
and the glory are yours,
now and for-ever A-men.

Collect of the Day

Almighty God, whose Son Jesus Christ in his earthly life shared our toil and hallowed our labor: Be present with your people where they work; make those who carry on the industries and commerce of this land responsive to your will; and give to us all a pride in what we do, and a just return for our labor; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Amen.

A Collect for Aid against Perils

Be our light in the darkness, O Lord, and in your great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night; for the love of your only Son, our Savior Jesus Christ.

Amen.

Prayer for Mission

O God and Father of all, whom the whole heavens adore: Let the whole earth also worship you, all nations obey you, all tongues confess and bless you, and men and women everywhere love you and serve you in peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

A Prayer of Saint Chrysostom

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Al-might-y God,
you have given us grace at this time
with one ac-cord
to make our common sup-pli-ca-tion to you;

and you have prom-ised
through your well-be-loved Son
that when two or three are gathered in his Name
you will be in/the midst of them:

Ful-fill now, O Lord, our de-sires and pe-ti-tions
as may be best for us;
granting us in this world knowl-edge of your truth,
and in/the age to come life ever-lasting. A-men.
