Invitation

Saturday - Pentecost Invitation

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

The Lord is in his holy tem-ple;
let all the earth keep silence be-fore him
I was glad when they said to me,
Let us go to/the house of/the Lord.

Let the words of my mouth
and the medi-ta-tion of my heart
be ac-cepta-ble in your sight, O Lord,
my strength and my re-deem-er.

Thus says the high and lofty One
who in-habits e-terni-ty,
whose name is Ho-ly,
I dwell in/the high and holy place

Send out your light
and your truth, that they may lead me,
and bring me to your holy hill
and to your dwel-ling place.

Give thanks to/the Lord, and call on his Name;
make known his deeds a-mong the peo-ples.
Lord, o-pen our lips.
And our mouth shall pro-claim your praise.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for ever A-men.

Saturday - Jubilate

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Be joy-ful in/the Lord, all you lands;
serve the Lord with glad-ness
and come be-fore his presence with a song.
Know this: The Lord him-self is God;

He him-self has made us, and we are his;
we are his people and the sheep of his pas-ture.
Enter his gates with thanks-giv-ing;
go into his courts with praise;

Give thanks to him and call on his Name.
Be-cause the Lord is good;
his mercy is ever last-ing;
and his faithful-ness en-dures from age to age.

Psalms

Psalm 107:33-43

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

He turned streams into a de-sert,
springs of water into ar-id land,
and a fruitful land into a barren place,
be-cause of/the sin of its in-habit-ants.

As for his peo-ple, he turned a desert into a pool of wat-er,
and a dry land into springs of wat-er.
He al-lowed the hun-gry to settle there,
and they es-tab-lished a city in which to live.

They culti-vat-ed fields, and planted vine-yards,
which yielded a har-vest of fruit.
He blessed them so that they be-came very numer-ous.
He would not al-low their cat-tle to de-crease in num-ber.

As for their ene-my, they de-creased in num-ber
and they were beat-en down,
be-cause of painful dis-tress and suffer-ing.
He would pour con-tempt up-on princ-es,

And he made them wander in a waste-land with no road.
Yet he pro-tected the need-y from op-pres-sion,
and cared for his fami-lies like a flock of sheep.
When the god-ly see this, they re-joice,

And eve-ry sinner shuts his mouth.
Who-ev-er has wis-dom,
let him take note of these things!
Let them con-sider the Lord's acts of loyal love!

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Psalm 108

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

I am de-ter-mined, O God!
I will sing and praise you with my whole heart.
A-wake, O stringed instru-ment and harp!
I will wake up at dawn!

I will give you thanks be-fore the na-tion, O Lord!
I will sing prais-es to you be-fore foreign-ers!
For your loyal love ex-tends be-yond the sky,
and your faithful-ness reach-es the clouds.

Rise up a-bove the sky, O God!
May your splen-dor cov-er the whole earth!
De-liver by your power and an-swer me,
so that the ones you love may be safe.

God has spoken in his sanc-tu-ary: I will triumph!
I will par-cel out She-chem,
the Val-ley of Suc-coth I will mea9#me]-sure off.
Gil-e-ad be-longs to me, as does Ma-nas-seh!

E-phraim is my hel-met,
Ju-dah my roy-al scep-ter.
Mo-ab is my wash-ba-sin.
I will make E-dom serve me.

I will shout in triumph over Phil-is-tia.
Who will lead me into the forti-fied cit-y?
Who will bring me to E-dom?
Have you not re-ject-ed us, O God?

O God, you do not go into battle with our ar-my.
Give us help a-gainst the ene-mies,
for any help men might offer is fu-tile.
By God's power we will con-quer; he will tram-ple our ene-mies.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Readings

A reading from 2 Kings 19:21-36

This is what the Lord says about him:
“‘“The virgin daughter Zion
despises you, she makes fun of you;
Daughter Jerusalem
shakes her head after you.

Whom have you taunted and hurled insults at?
At whom have you shouted,
and looked so arrogantly?
At the Holy One of Israel!

Through your messengers you taunted the Sovereign Master,
‘With my many chariots
I climbed up the high mountains,
the slopes of Lebanon.
I cut down its tall cedars
and its best evergreens.
I invaded its most remote regions,
its thickest woods.

I dug wells and drank
water in foreign lands.
With the soles of my feet I dried up
all the rivers of Egypt.’

Certainly you must have heard!
Long ago I worked it out.
In ancient times I planned it;
and now I am bringing it to pass.
The plan is this:
Fortified cities will crash
into heaps of ruins.

Their residents are powerless,
they are terrified and ashamed.
They are as short-lived as plants in the field,
or green vegetation.
They are as short-lived as grass on the rooftops
when it is scorched by the east wind.

I know where you live
and everything you do.

Because you rage against me,
and the uproar you create has reached my ears,
I will put my hook in your nose,
and my bridle between your lips,
and I will lead you back the way
you came.”

“‘This will be your confirmation that I have spoken the truth: This year you will eat what grows wild, and next year what grows on its own from that. But in the third year you will plant seed and harvest crops; you will plant vines and consume their produce. Those who remain in Judah will take root in the ground and bear fruit.

“‘For a remnant will leave Jerusalem;
survivors will come out of Mount Zion.
The zeal of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will accomplish this.

So this is what the Lord has said about the king of Assyria:
“He will not enter this city,
nor will he shoot an arrow here.
He will not attack it with his shield-carrying warriors,
nor will he build siege works against it.

He will go back the way he came.
He will not enter this city,” says the Lord.

“‘I will shield this city and rescue it for the sake of my reputation and because of my promise to David my servant.’”

That very night the angel of the Lord went out and killed 185,000 in the Assyrian camp. When they got up early the next morning, there were all the corpses. So King Sennacherib of Assyria broke camp and went on his way. He went home and stayed in Nineveh.

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Saturday - Song of Moses

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

I will sing to/the Lord,
for he is lofty and up-lift-ed;
the horse and its rid-er
has he hurled into the sea.

The Lord is my strength and my ref-uge;
the Lord has be-come my Sav-ior.
This is my God and I will praise him,
the God of my people and I will ex-alt him.

The Lord is a mighty war-ri-or;
Yah-weh is his holy Name.
The chari-ots of Phar-oah and his ar-my
has he hurled into the sea;

The finest of those who bear ar-mor
have been drowned in/the Red Sea.
The fathom-less deep has over-whelmed them;
they sank into the depths like a stone.

Your right hand, O Lord,
is glori-ous and might-y;
your right hand, O Lord,
has over-thrown the ene-my.

Who can be com-pared with you,
O Lord, a-mong the gods?
who is like you,
glori-ous in ho-li-ness,

Awe-some in re-nown,
and work-er of won-ders?
You stretched forth your right hand;
the earth swal-lowed them up.

With your con-stant love
you led the people you re-deemed;
with your might you brought them in safe-ty
to your holy dwell-ing place.

You will bring them in and plant them
on the mount of your pos-ses-sion,
In/the rest-ing place
you have made for your-self, O Lord,

In/the sanc-tu-ary, O Lord,
that your hand has es-tab-lished.
The Lord shall reign
for ever and for ever. A-men!

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for ever A-men.

A reading from Matthew 8:18-27

Now when Jesus saw a large crowd around him, he gave orders to go to the other side of the lake. Then an expert in the law came to him and said, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go. ” Jesus said to him, “Foxes have dens, and the birds in the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head. ” Another of the disciples said to him, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father. ” But Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead. ”

As he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. And a great storm developed on the sea so that the waves began to swamp the boat. But he was asleep. So they came and woke him up saying, “Lord, save us! We are about to die!” But he said to them, “Why are you cowardly, you people of little faith?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it was dead calm. And the men were amazed and said, “What sort of person is this? Even the winds and the sea obey him!”

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Saturday - Song of Praise

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Glory to you, Lord God of our fath-ers;
you are worthy of praise; glory to you.
Glory to you for/the radi-ance of your holy Name;
we will praise you and highly ex-alt you for ev-er.

Glory to you in/the splen-dor of your tem-ple;
on the throne of your maj-es-ty, glory to you.
Glory to you, seated be-tween the Cher-u-bim;
we will praise you and highly ex-alt you for ev-er.

Glory to you, be-hold-ing the depths;
in the high vault of heav-en, glory to you.
Glory to you, Fath-er, Son, and Ho-ly Spi-rit;
we will praise you and highly ex-alt you for ev-er.

Prayers

Saturday Creed

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

We be-lieve in God, the Fath-er al-might-y,
cre-a-tor of heaven and earth.
We be-lieve in Je-sus Christ,
his on-ly son, our Lord.

He was con-ceived by/the power of/the Ho-ly Spi-rit
and born of/the Vir-gin Mar-y.
He suffered under Pon-tius Pi-late,
was cruci-fied, died, and was bur-ied.

He de-scended to/the dead.
On the third day he rose a-gain.
He a-scended into heav-en,
and is seated at/the right hand of/the Fath-er.

He will come a-gain
to judge the living and the dead.
We be-lieve in/the Ho-ly Spi-rit,
the _ holy catho-lic Church,

the com-mun-ion of saints,
the for-give-ness of sins,
the resur-rec-tion of/the bod-y,
and the life ever-last-ing. A-men.

Saturday - Our Father

The Lord be with you.
And al-so with _ you.
Our Fath-er in heav-en,
hal-low-ed be your Name.

Your king-dom come,
your will be done on earth
as it is in heav-en.
Give us to-day our dai-ly bread.

For-give us our sins
as we _ for-give those
who sin a-gainst us.
Save us from/the time of tri-al,

De-liver us from e-vil.
For the king-dom, the pow-er,
and the glory are yours,
now and for-ever A-men.

Saturday - Morning Suffrages A

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Show us your mer-cy, O Lord;
And grant us your sal-va-tion.
Clothe your minis-ters with righteous-ness;
Let your people sing with joy.

Give peace, O Lord, in all the world;
For only in you can we live in safe-ty.
Lord, keep this na-tion under your care;
And guide us in/the way of justice and truth.

Let your way be known up-on earth;
Your sav-ing health a-mong all na-tions.
Let not the need-y, O Lord, be for-got-ten;
Nor the hope of/the poor be taken a-way.

Cre-ate in us clean hearts, O God;
And sus-tain us with your Ho-ly Spi-rit.
Show us your mer-cy, O Lord;
And grant us your sal-va-tion.

Collects of the Day

O God, you have prepared for those who love you such good things as surpass our understanding: Pour into our hearts such love towards you, that we, loving you in all things and above all things, may obtain your promises, which exceed all that we can desire; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Amen.

A Collect for Saturdays

Almighty God, who after the creation of the world rested from all your works and sanctified a day of rest for all your creatures: Grant that we, putting away all earthly anxieties, may be duly prepared for the service of your sanctuary, and that our rest here upon earth may be a preparation for the eternal rest promised to your people in heaven; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Prayer for Mission

Almighty and everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body of your faithful people is governed and sanctified: Receive our supplications and prayers which we offer before you for all members of your holy Church, that in their vocation and ministry they may truly and devoutly serve you; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Amen.
