Saturday - Evensong Invitation

Grace to you and peace from God our Fa-ther
and from/the Lord Je-sus Christ.
Wor-ship the Lord in/the beau-ty of his holi-ness;
let the whole earth trem-ble be-fore him.

Let my prayer be set forth in your sight as in-cense,
the lifting up of my hands as the eve-ning sacri-fice.
I will bless the Lord who gives me coun-sel;
my heart teaches me, night after night.

I have set the Lord al-ways be-fore me;
be-cause he is at my right hand, I shall not fall.
O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Saturday - O Gracious Light

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

O gra-cious light, pure bright-ness
of the ever-liv-ing Fath-er in heav-en,
O Je-sus Christ, holy and bless-ed!
we sing your prais-es, O God!

Now as we come to/the setting of/the sun,
and our eyes be-hold the ves-per light,
we sing your prais-es, O God:
Fath-er, Son, and Ho-ly Spi-rit.

You are worthy at all times
to be praised by happy voic-es,
O Son of God, O Giver of life,
and to be glori-fied through all the worlds.

Psalms

Psalm 136

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Give thanks to/the Lord, for he is good,
for his loyal love en-dures.
Give thanks to/the God of gods,
for his loyal love en-dures.

Give thanks to/the Lord of lords,
for his loyal love en-dures,
to/the one who per-forms mag-nifi-cent, a-mazing deeds,
for his loyal love en-dures,

to/the one who used wis-dom to make the heav-ens,
for his loyal love en-dures,
to/the one who spread out the earth over the wat-er,
for his loyal love en-dures,

to/the one who made the great lights,
for his loyal love en-dures,
the sun to rule by day,
for his loyal love en-dures,

the moon and stars to rule by night,
for his loyal love en-dures,
to/the one who struck down the first-born of E-gypt,
for his loyal love en-dures,

and led Is-ra-el out from their midst,
for his loyal love en-dures,
with a strong hand and an out-stretched arm,
for his loyal love en-dures,

to/the one who di-vided the Red Sea in two,
for his loyal love en-dures,
and led Is-ra-el through its midst,
for his loyal love en-dures,

and tossed Phar-aoh and his ar-my into the Red Sea,
for his loyal love en-dures,
to/the one who led his people through the wil-der-ness,
for his loyal love en-dures,

to/the one who struck down great kings,
for his loyal love en-dures,
and killed power-ful kings,
for his loyal love en-dures,

Si-hon, king of/the Amor-ites,
for his loyal love en-dures,
Og, king of Ba-shan,
for his loyal love en-dures,

and gave their land as an in-herit-ance,
for his loyal love en-dures,
as an in-herit-ance to Is-ra-el his serv-ant,
for his loyal love en-dures,

to/the one who re-membered us when we were down,
for his loyal love en-dures,
and snatched us a-way from our ene-mies,
for his loyal love en-dures,

to/the one who gives food to all living things,
for his loyal love en-dures.
Give thanks to/the God of heav-en,
for his loyal love en-dures!

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Readings

A reading from 1 Corinthians 7:10-24

To the married I give this command—not I, but the Lord—a wife should not divorce a husband (but if she does, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband), and a husband should not divorce his wife.

To the rest I say—I, not the Lord—if a brother has a wife who is not a believer and she is happy to live with him, he should not divorce her. And if a woman has a husband who is not a believer and he is happy to live with her, she should not divorce him. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified because of the wife, and the unbelieving wife because of her husband. Otherwise your children are unclean, but now they are holy. But if the unbeliever wants a divorce, let it take place. In these circumstances the brother or sister is not bound. God has called you in peace. For how do you know, wife, whether you will bring your husband to salvation? Or how do you know, husband, whether you will bring your wife to salvation?

Nevertheless, as the Lord has assigned to each one, as God has called each person, so must he live. I give this sort of direction in all the churches. Was anyone called after he had been circumcised? He should not try to undo his circumcision. Was anyone called who is uncircumcised? He should not get circumcised. Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing. Instead, keeping God’s commandments is what counts. Let each one remain in that situation in life in which he was called. Were you called as a slave? Do not worry about it. But if indeed you are able to be free, make the most of the opportunity. For the one who was called in the Lord as a slave is the Lord’s freedman. In the same way, the one who was called as a free person is Christ’s slave. You were bought with a price. Do not become slaves of men. In whatever situation someone was called, brothers and sisters, let him remain in it with God.

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Saturday - Song of Praise

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Glory to you, Lord God of our fath-ers;
you are worthy of praise; glory to you.
Glory to you for/the radi-ance of your holy Name;
we will praise you and highly ex-alt you for ev-er.

Glory to you in/the splen-dor of your tem-ple;
on the throne of your maj-es-ty, glory to you.
Glory to you, seated be-tween the Cher-u-bim;
we will praise you and highly ex-alt you for ev-er.

Glory to you, be-hold-ing the depths;
in the high vault of heav-en, glory to you.
Glory to you, Fath-er, Son, and Ho-ly Spi-rit;
we will praise you and highly ex-alt you for ev-er.

A reading from Matthew 6:19-24

“Do not accumulate for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and devouring insect destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But accumulate for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and devouring insect do not destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

“The eye is the lamp of the body. If then your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is diseased, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!

“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Saturday - Song of Simeon

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Lord, you now have set your ser-vant free
to go in peace as you have prom-ised;
For these eyes of mine have seen the Sav-ior,
whom you have pre-pared for all the world to see:

A Light to en-light-en the na-tions,
and the glory of your people Is-ra-el.
Lord, you now have set your ser-vant free
to go in peace as you have prom-ised;

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever. A-men.

Prayers

Saturday Creed

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

We be-lieve in God, the Fath-er al-might-y,
cre-a-tor of heaven and earth.
We be-lieve in Je-sus Christ,
his on-ly son, our Lord.

He was con-ceived by/the power of/the Ho-ly Spi-rit
and born of/the Vir-gin Mar-y.
He suffered under Pon-tius Pi-late,
was cruci-fied, died, and was bur-ied.

He de-scended to/the dead.
On the third day he rose a-gain.
He a-scended into heav-en,
and is seated at/the right hand of/the Fath-er.

He will come a-gain
to judge the living and the dead.
We be-lieve in/the Ho-ly Spi-rit,
the _ holy catho-lic Church,

the com-mun-ion of saints,
the for-give-ness of sins,
the resur-rec-tion of/the bod-y,
and the life ever-last-ing. A-men.

Saturday - Our Father

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

The Lord be with you.
And al-so with _ you.
Our Fath-er in heav-en,
hal-low-ed be your Name.

Your king-dom come,
your will be done on earth
as it is in heav-en.
Give us to-day our dai-ly bread.

For-give us our sins
as we _ for-give those
who sin a-gainst us.
Save us from/the time of tri-al,

De-liver us from e-vil.
For the king-dom, the pow-er,
and the glory are yours,
now and for-ever A-men.

That this eve-ning may be ho-ly, good, and peace-ful,
We en-treat you, O Lord.
That your holy an-gels may lead us in paths of peace and good-will,
We en-treat you, O Lord.

That we may be pardoned and for-given for our sins and of-fens-es,
We en-treat you, O Lord.
That there may be peace to your Church and to/the whole world,
We en-treat you, O Lord.

That we may de-part this life in your faith and fear,
and be freed from con-dem-na-tion
be-fore the great judg-ment seat of Christ,
We en-treat you, O Lord.

That we may be bound to-gether by your Ho-ly Spi-rit
in the com-mun-ion of Barna-bas and all your saints,
en-trust-ing one an-other and all our life to Christ,
We en-treat you, O Lord.

Collect of the Day

Father in heaven, by your grace the virgin mother of your incarnate Son was blessed in bearing him, but still more blessed in keeping your word: Grant us who honor the exaltation of her lowliness to follow the example of her devotion to your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Amen.

A Collect for Saturdays

O God, the source of eternal light: Shed forth your unending day upon us who watch for you, that our lips may praise you, our lives may bless you, and our worship on the morrow give you glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Prayer for Mission

O God and Father of all, whom the whole heavens adore: Let the whole earth also worship you, all nations obey you, all tongues confess and bless you, and men and women everywhere love you and serve you in peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

A Prayer of Saint Chrysostom

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Al-might-y God,
you have given us grace at this time
with one ac-cord
to make our common sup-pli-ca-tion to you;

and you have prom-ised
through your well-be-loved Son
that when two or three are gathered in his Name
you will be in/the midst of them:

Ful-fill now, O Lord, our de-sires and pe-ti-tions
as may be best for us;
granting us in this world knowl-edge of your truth,
and in/the age to come life ever-lasting. A-men.
