Monday - Pentecost Invitation

The Lord is in his holy tem-ple;
let all the earth keep silence be-fore him
I was glad when they said to me,
Let us go to/the house of/the Lord.
Let the words of my mouth
and the medi-ta-tion of my heart
be ac-cepta-ble in your sight, O Lord,
my strength and my re-deem-er.
Thus says the high and lofty One
who in-habits e-terni-ty,
whose name is Ho-ly,
I dwell in/the high and holy place
Send out your light
and your truth, that they may lead me,
and bring me to your holy hill
and to your dwel-ling place.
Give thanks to/the Lord, and call on his Name;
make known his deeds a-mong the peo-ples.
Lord, o-pen our lips.
And our mouth shall pro-claim your praise.
Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for ever A-men.

Come, let's sing to/the Lord;
let's shout for joy to/the Rock of our sal-va-tion.
Let's come be-fore his presence with thanks-giv-ing
and raise a loud shout to him with psalms.
For the Lord is/a great God,
and a great King a-bove all gods.
In his hand are the caverns of/the earth,
and the heights of/the hills are his al-so.
The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands have molded the dry land.
Come, let's bow down, and bend the knee,
and kneel be-fore the Lord our Mak-er.
For he is our God,
and we are the people of his pas-ture
and the sheep of his hand.
Oh, that to-day you would hearken to his voice!
Psalms
Psalm 1
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto PDF All
How blessed is the one
who does not follow the ad-vice of/the wick-ed,
or stand in/the path-way with sin-ners,
or sit in/the as-sem-bly of scoff-ers!
In-stead he finds pleas-ure
in o-bey-ing the Lord's com-mands;
he medi-tates on his com-mands day and night.
He is like a tree planted by flow-ing streams;
It yields its fruit at/the proper time,
and its leaves never fall off.
He suc-ceeds in every-thing he at-tempts.
But not so with/the wick-ed!
In-stead they are like wind-driv-en chaff.
For this reason the wicked can-not with-stand judg-ment,
nor can sinners join the as-sem-bly of/the god-ly.
Certain-ly the Lord guards the way of/the god-ly,
The way of/the wicked ends in de-struc-tion.
How blessed is the one who does not follow their ad-vice
or stand in/the path-way with sin-ners,
or sit in/the as-sem-bly of scoff-ers!
Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.
Psalm 2

Why do the na-tions re-bel?
Why are the coun-tries de-vising plots that will fail?
The kings of/the earth
form a u-nit-ed front;
the rulers col-lab-o-rate
a-gainst the Lord and his a-nointed king.
They say, Let us tear off
the shackles they have put on us!
Let us free our-selves from their rope!
The one en-throned in heaven laughs in dis-gust;
the Lord taunts _ them.
Then he an-grily speaks to them
and terri-fies them in his rage, say-ing,
I my-self have in-stalled my king
on Zi-on, my holy hill.
The king says, I will/an-nounce the Lord's de-cree.
He said to me: You are my son!
This very day I have be-come your fath-er!
Ask me, and I will give you
the na-tions as your in-herit-ance,
the ends of/the earth
as your per-son-al proper-ty.
You will break them
with an i-ron scep-ter;
You will smash them like a potter's jar!
So now, you kings, do what is wise;
you rulers of/the earth,
sub-mit to cor-rec-tion!
Serve the Lord in fear! Re-pent in ter-ror!
Give God sin-cere hom-age!
Other-wise he will be an-gry,
and you will sure-ly die
Be-cause of your be-hav-ior,
when his an-ger quickly ig-nites.
How blessed are all
who _ take shelter in him!
Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.
Psalm 3
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto PDF All
Lord, how numer-ous are my ene-mies!
Many at-tack me. Many say a-bout me,
God will not de-liver him.
But you, Lord, are a shield that pro-tects me;
You are my glo-ry
and the one who re-stores me.
To the Lord I cried out,
and he an-swered me from his holy hill.
I rest-ed and slept;
I a-woke, for/the Lord pro-tects me.
I am not a-fraid of/the multi-tude of peo-ple
who at-tack me from all di-rec-tions.
Rise up, Lord! De-liver me, my God!
Yes, you will strike all my ene-mies on/the jaw;
you will break the teeth of/the wick-ed.
The Lord de-livers; you show favor to your peo-ple.
Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.
Readings
A reading from 1 Kings 1:5-31
Now Adonijah, son of David and Haggith, was promoting himself, boasting, “I will be king!” He managed to acquire chariots and horsemen, as well as 50 men to serve as his royal guard. (Now his father had never corrected him by saying, “Why do you do such things?” He was also very handsome and had been born right after Absalom.) He collaborated with Joab son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar the priest, and they supported him. But Zadok the priest, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei, Rei, and David’s elite warriors did not ally themselves with Adonijah. Adonijah sacrificed sheep, cattle, and fattened steers at the Stone of Zoheleth near En Rogel. He invited all his brothers, the king’s sons, as well as all the men of Judah, the king’s servants. But he did not invite Nathan the prophet, Benaiah, the elite warriors, or his brother Solomon.
Nathan said to Bathsheba, Solomon’s mother, “Has it been reported to you that Haggith’s son Adonijah has become king behind our master David’s back? Now let me give you some advice as to how you can save your life and your son Solomon’s life. Visit King David and say to him, ‘My master, O king, did you not solemnly promise your servant, “Surely your son Solomon will be king after me; he will sit on my throne”? So why has Adonijah become king?’ While you are still there speaking to the king, I will arrive and verify your report.”
So Bathsheba visited the king in his private quarters. (The king was very old, and Abishag the Shunammite was serving the king.) Bathsheba bowed down on the floor before the king. The king said, “What do you want?” She replied to him, “My master, you swore an oath to your servant by the Lord your God, ‘Solomon your son will be king after me and he will sit on my throne.’ But now, look, Adonijah has become king! But you, my master the king, are not even aware of it! He has sacrificed many cattle, steers, and sheep and has invited all the king’s sons, Abiathar the priest, and Joab, the commander of the army, but he has not invited your servant Solomon. Now, my master, O king, all Israel is watching anxiously to see who is named to succeed my master the king on the throne. If a decision is not made, when my master the king is buried with his ancestors, my son Solomon and I will be considered state criminals.”
Just then, while she was still speaking to the king, Nathan the prophet arrived. The king was told, “Nathan the prophet is here.” Nathan entered and bowed before the king with his face to the floor. Nathan said, “My master, O king, did you announce, ‘Adonijah will be king after me; he will sit on my throne’? For today he has gone down and sacrificed many cattle, steers, and sheep and has invited all the king’s sons, the army commanders, and Abiathar the priest. At this moment they are having a feast in his presence, and they have declared, ‘Long live King Adonijah!’ But he did not invite me—your servant—or Zadok the priest, or Benaiah son of Jehoiada, or your servant Solomon. Has my master the king authorized this without informing your servants who should succeed my master the king on his throne?”
King David responded, “Summon Bathsheba!” She came and stood before the king. The king swore an oath: “As certainly as the Lord lives (he who has rescued me from every danger), I will keep today the oath I swore to you by the Lord God of Israel: ‘Surely Solomon your son will be king after me; he will sit in my place on my throne.’” Bathsheba bowed down to the king with her face to the floor and said, “May my master, King David, live forever!”
Here ends the reading.

Monday - Song of Praise
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto PDF All
Glory to you, Lord God of our fath-ers;
you are worthy of praise; glory to you.
Glory to you for/the radi-ance of your holy Name;
we will praise you and highly ex-alt you for ev-er.
Glory to you in/the splen-dor of your tem-ple;
on the throne of your maj-es-ty, glory to you.
Glory to you, seated be-tween the Cher-u-bim;
we will praise you and highly ex-alt you for ev-er.
Glory to you, be-hold-ing the depths;
in the high vault of heav-en, glory to you.
Glory to you, Fath-er, Son, and Ho-ly Spi-rit;
we will praise you and highly ex-alt you for ev-er.
A reading from Mark 13:14-27
“But when you see the abomination of desolation standing where it should not be” (let the reader understand), “then those in Judea must flee to the mountains. The one on the roof must not come down or go inside to take anything out of his house. The one in the field must not turn back to get his cloak. Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing their babies in those days! Pray that it may not be in winter. For in those days there will be suffering unlike anything that has happened from the beginning of the creation that God created until now, or ever will happen. And if the Lord had not cut short those days, no one would be saved. But because of the elect, whom he chose, he has cut them short. Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘Look, there he is!’ do not believe him. For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, the elect. Be careful! I have told you everything ahead of time.
“But in those days, after that suffering, the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light; the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. Then everyone will see the Son of Man arriving in the clouds with great power and glory. Then he will send angels and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven.
Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Lord, you now have set your ser-vant free
to go in peace as you have prom-ised;
For these eyes of mine have seen the Sav-ior,
whom you have pre-pared for all the world to see:
A Light to en-light-en the na-tions,
and the glory of your people Is-ra-el.
Lord, you now have set your ser-vant free
to go in peace as you have prom-ised;
Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever. A-men.

Save your peo-ple, Lord,
and bless your in-herit-ance;
Gov-ern and guide them, Lord
and up-hold them, now and al-ways.
Day by day we bless you;
We praise your name for-ever.
Lord, keep us from all sin to-day;
Have mer-cy on us, Lord, have mer-cy.

For we put our trust in you.
In you, Lord, is our hope;
And we shall never hope in vain.
Collects of the Day
Almighty God, Lord of heaven and earth: We humbly pray that your gracious providence may give and preserve to our use the harvests of the land and of the seas, and may prosper all who labor to gather them, that we, who are constantly receiving good things from your hand, may always give you thanks; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
A Collect for the Renewal of Life
O God, the King eternal, whose light divides the day from the night and turns the shadow of death into the morning: Drive far from us all wrong desires, incline our hearts to keep your law, and guide our feet into the way of peace; that, having done your will with cheerfulness while it was day, we may, when night comes, rejoice to give you thanks; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Prayer for Mission
O God, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth, and sent your blessed Son to preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near: Grant that people everywhere may seek after you and find you; bring the nations into your fold; pour out your Spirit upon all flesh; and hasten the coming of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
