Confession
Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you
in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done,
and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will,
and walk in your ways,
to the glory of your Name.
Amen
May Almighty God have mercy on us,
forgive us all our sins
through our Lord Jesus Christ,
strengthen us in all goodness,
and by the power of the Holy Spirit
keep us in eternal life.
Amen

Grace to you and peace from God our Fa-ther
and from/the Lord Je-sus Christ.
Wor-ship the Lord in/the beau-ty of his holi-ness;
let the whole earth trem-ble be-fore him.
Let my prayer be set forth in your sight as in-cense,
the lifting up of my hands as the eve-ning sacri-fice.
I will bless the Lord who gives me coun-sel;
my heart teaches me, night after night.
I have set the Lord al-ways be-fore me;
be-cause he is at my right hand, I shall not fall.
O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.
Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.
O Gracious Light
O gracious Light,
pure brightness of the
everliving Father in heaven.
O Jesus, Christ, holy and blessed!
Now as we come to the setting of the sun,
and our eyes behold the vesper light,
we sing your praises, O God:
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
You are worthy at all times
to be praised by happy voices,
O Son of God, O Giver of life,
and to be glorified through all the worlds.
Psalm 37:19-42

They will not be/a-shamed when hard times come;
when fam-ine comes they will have e-nough to eat.
But evil men will die;
the Lord's ene-mies will be in-ciner-at-ed
they will go up in smoke.
Evil men borrow, but do not re-pay their debts,
but the god-ly show com-passion and are gener-ous.
Sure-ly those fa-vored by/the Lord will pos-sess the land,
but those re-jected by him will be wiped out.
The Lord grants suc-cess to/the one he finds com-mend-a-ble.
Even if he trips, he will not fall head-long,
for the Lord holds his hand.
I was once young, now I am old.
I have never seen a god-ly man a-ban-doned,
or his children forced to search for food.
All day long he shows com-passion and lends to oth-ers,
and his children are blessed.
Turn a-way from e-vil! Do what is right!
Then you will en-joy lasting se-curi-ty.
For the Lord pro-motes jus-tice,
God never a-ban-dons his faithful follow-ers.
They are perma-nent-ly se-cure,
but the children of evil men are wiped out.
The god-ly will pos-sess the land
and will dwell in it perma-nent-ly.
The god-ly speak wise words
and pro-mote jus-tice.
The law of their God con-trols their think-ing;
Their feet do not slip.
E-vil men set/an am-bush for/the god-ly
and try to kill them.
But the Lord does not sur-render the god-ly,
Nor al-low them to be con-demned in/a court of law.
Re-ly on/the Lord! O-bey his com-mands!
Then he will per-mit you to pos-sess the land;
you will see the de-mise of evil men.
I have seen ruthless evil men growing in in-flu-ence,
like a green tree grows in its native soil.
But then one passes by,
and sudden-ly they have disap-peared!
I looked for them,
but they could not be found.
Ob-serve the up-right!
Take note of/the one who has in-tegri-ty!
For the one who pro-motes peace has a fu-ture.
Sin-ful rebels are total-ly de-stroyed;
e-vil men have no fu-ture.
But the Lord de-livers the god-ly;
He pro-tects them in times of trou-ble.
The Lord helps them and res-cues them;
He res-cues them from evil men and de-livers them,
for they seek his pro-tec-tion.
Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.
Readings
A reading from Acts 13:1-12
Now there were these prophets and teachers in the church at Antioch: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius the Cyrenian, Manaen (a close friend of Herod the tetrarch from childhood ) and Saul. While they were serving the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them. ” Then, after they had fasted and prayed and placed their hands on them, they sent them off.
So Barnabas and Saul, sent out by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus. When they arrived in Salamis, they began to proclaim the word of God in the Jewish synagogues. (Now they also had John as their assistant. ) When they had crossed over the whole island as far as Paphos, they found a magician, a Jewish false prophet named Bar-Jesus, who was with the proconsul Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. The proconsul summoned Barnabas and Saul and wanted to hear the word of God. But the magician Elymas (for that is the way his name is translated) opposed them, trying to turn the proconsul away from the faith. But Saul (also known as Paul), filled with the Holy Spirit, stared straight at him and said, “You who are full of all deceit and all wrongdoing, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness – will you not stop making crooked the straight paths of the Lord? Now look, the hand of the Lord is against you, and you will be blind, unable to see the sun for a time!” Immediately mistiness and darkness came over him, and he went around seeking people to lead him by the hand. Then when the proconsul saw what had happened, he believed, because he was greatly astounded at the teaching about the Lord.

Glory to God in/the high-est,
and peace to his people on earth.
Lord God, heaven-ly King,
al-might-y God and Fath-er,
We worship you, we give you thanks,
We praise you for your glo-ry.
Lord Je-sus Christ, only Son of/the Fath-er,
Lord God, _ Lamb of God,
You take/a-way the sin of/the world:
have mer-cy up-on us;
you are seated at/the right hand of/the Fath-er:
re-ceive _ our pray-er.
For you a-lone are/the Ho-ly One,
You a-lone are the Lord,
You a-lone are/the Most High, Je-sus Christ,
with/the Ho-ly Spi-rit, in/the glory of God the Fath-er.
A reading from Mark 2:23-3:6
Jesus was going through the grain fields on a Sabbath, and his disciples began to pick some heads of wheat as they made their way. So the Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is against the law on the Sabbath?” He said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions were hungry— how he entered the house of God when Abiathar was high priest and ate the sacred bread, which is against the law for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to his companions?” Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for people, not people for the Sabbath. For this reason the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”
Then Jesus entered the synagogue again, and a man was there who had a withered hand. They watched Jesus closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they could accuse him. So he said to the man who had the withered hand, “Stand up among all these people.” Then he said to them, “Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath, or evil, to save a life or destroy it?” But they were silent. After looking around at them in anger, grieved by the hardness of their hearts, he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored. So the Pharisees went out immediately and began plotting with the Herodians, as to how they could assassinate him.
Here ends the reading.

Seek the Lord while he wills to/be found;
call up-on him when he draws near.
Let the wicked for-sake their ways
and the evil ones their thoughts;
And let them turn to/the Lord,
and he will have com-passion,
Let then re-turn to our God,
for he will rich-ly par-don.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
nor your ways my ways, says the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways,
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
For as rain and snow fall from/the heav-ens
and re-turns not a-gain,
but wat-ers the whole earth,
Bring-ing forth life
and giving a-bun-dant growth
And seed for re-plan-ting
and bread and fruit for eat-ing,
So is my word that goes forth from my mouth;
it will not re-turn to me emp-ty;
But it will ac-com-plish that which I have pur-posed,
and prosper in that for which I sent it.
Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.
