Evening Prayer - Monday February 1 2021

Invitation

Confession

Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you
in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done,
and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will,
and walk in your ways,
to the glory of your Name.

Amen

May Almighty God have mercy on us,
forgive us all our sins
through our Lord Jesus Christ,
strengthen us in all goodness,
and by the power of the Holy Spirit
keep us in eternal life.

Amen

[Verse 1]

Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer,
that calls me from _ a world of care,
and bids me at my Fa-ther's throne
make all my wants _ and wish-es known.
In sea-sons of dis-tress and grief
my soul has oft-en found re-lief,
and oft es-caped the tempt- er's snare
by your re-turn, _ sweet hour of prayer

[Verse 2]

Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer,
the joys I feel, _ the bliss I share
of those whose an-xious spi-rits burn
with strong de-sires _ for your re-turn!
With such I hast-en to the place
where God my Sa-vior shows his face,
and glad-ly take my sta-tion there,
and wait for you, _ sweet hour of prayer.

[Verse 3]

Sweet hour of prayer! Sweet hour of prayer,
Your wings shall my _ pe-ti-tion bear
To Him whose truth and faith-full-ness
En-gage the wait-_ ing soul to bless,
And since He bids me seek His face,
Be-lieve His word, and trust His grace,
I'll cast on Him my ev-'ry care,
And wait for you, _ sweet hour of prayer.

Monday - Evensong Invitation

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Grace to you and peace from God our Fa-ther
and from/the Lord Je-sus Christ.
Wor-ship the Lord in/the beau-ty of his holi-ness;
let the whole earth trem-ble be-fore him.

Let my prayer be set forth in your sight as in-cense,
the lifting up of my hands as the eve-ning sacri-fice.
I will bless the Lord who gives me coun-sel;
my heart teaches me, night after night.

I have set the Lord al-ways be-fore me;
be-cause he is at my right hand, I shall not fall.
O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Psalm 113

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Praise the Lord! Praise!
You servants of/the Lord, praise the name of/the Lord!
May the Lord's name be praised
now _ and for-ever more!

From east to west the Lord's name is de-serving of praise.
The Lord is ex-alted over all the na-tion;
his splen-dor reaches be-yond the sky.
Who can com-pare to/the Lord our God?

Who sits on a high throne?
He bends down/to look at/the sky and the earth.
He raises the poor from/the dirt,
and lifts up/the from/the gar-bage pile,

That he might seat him with princ-es,
with the princes of his peo-ple.
He makes the barren wom-an of/the fam-i-ly
a happy moth-er of chil-dren. Praise the Lord!

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Psalm 122

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

I was glad be-cause they said to me,
We will go to/the Lord's tem-ple.
Our feet are standing in-side your gates, O Je-rusa-lem.
Je-rusa-lem is a city de-signed for/the great as-sem-bly.

The tribes go up there,
all _ the tribes of/the Lord,
where Isra-el must give thanks
to _ the name of/the Lord.

In-deed, the leaders sit there on thrones
and make legal de-ci-sions,
on the thrones of/the house of Da-vid.
Pray for/the peace of Je-rusa-lem!

May those who love her pros-per!
May there be peace in-side your de-fens-es,
and pros-per-i-ty in-side your for-tress!
For the sake of my broth-ers

and for my neighbors I will say,
May there be peace in you!
For the sake of/the tem-ple of/the Lord our God
I will pray for you to pros-per.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Readings

A reading from 1 Samuel 1:20-28

Then Hannah became pregnant.

In the course of time she gave birth to a son. And she named him Samuel, thinking, “I asked the Lord for him.” Then the man Elkanah and all his family went up to make the yearly sacrifice to the Lord and to keep his vow. But Hannah did not go up with them, because she had told her husband, “Not until the boy is weaned. Then I will bring him so that he may appear before the Lord. And he will remain there from then on.”

Then her husband Elkanah said to her, “Do what you think best. Stay until you have weaned him. Only may the Lord fulfill his promise.”

So the woman stayed and nursed her son until she had weaned him. Then she took him up with her as soon as she had weaned him, along with three bulls, an ephah of flour, and a container of wine. She came to the Lord’s house at Shiloh, and the boy was with them. They slaughtered the bull, then brought the boy to Eli. She said, “My lord. Just as surely as you are alive, my lord, I am the woman who previously stood here with you in order to pray to the Lord. For this boy I prayed, and the Lord has given me the request that I asked of him. So I also dedicate him to the Lord. For all the days of his life he is dedicated to the Lord.” Then he bowed down there in worship to the Lord.

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Monday - Song of Zechariah

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Bless-ed be the Lord, the God of Is-ra-el;
he has come to his people and set them free.
He has raised up for us a mighty sav-ior,
born of/the house of his servant Da-vid.

Through his holy proph-ets he prom-ised of old,
that he would save us from our ene-mies,
from the hands of all who hate us.
He prom-ised to show mer-cy to our fath-ers

and to re-member his holy cov-e-nant.
This was the oath he swore to our fath-er A-bra-ham,
to set us free from/the hands of our ene-mies,
Free to wor-ship him without fear,

ho-ly and righteous in his sight
all the days of our life.
And you, my child, shall be called
the proph-et of/the Most High,

for you will go be-fore the Lord to pre-pare his way,
To give his people knowledge of sal-va-tion
by the for-give-ness of their sins.
In/the tender com-pas-sion of our God

the dawn from on high shall break up-on us,
To shine on those who dwell in dark-ness
and in/the shadow of death,
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

A reading from Romans 8:14-21

For all who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery leading again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself bears witness to our spirit that we are God’s children. And if children, then heirs (namely, heirs of God and also fellow heirs with Christ)—if indeed we suffer with him so we may also be glorified with him.

For I consider that our present sufferings cannot even be compared to the coming glory that will be revealed to us. For the creation eagerly waits for the revelation of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility—not willingly but because of God who subjected it—in hope that the creation itself will also be set free from the bondage of decay into the glorious freedom of God’s children.

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Monday - Song to the Lamb

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Splendor and honor and king-ly power
are yours by right, O Lord our God,
For you cre-ated every-thing that is,
and by your will they were cre-ated and have their be-ing;

And yours by right, O Lamb that was slain,
for with your blood you have re-deemed for God,
From eve-ry fami-ly, lan-guage, people, and na-tion,
a kingdom of priests to serve our God.

And so, to him who sits up-on/the throne,
and to Je-sus Christ the Lamb,
Be worship and praise, do-min-ion and splen-dor,
for-ever and for-ever-more.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Monday Creed

We be-lieve in God, the Fath-er al-might-y,
cre-a-tor of heaven and earth.
We be-lieve in Je-sus Christ,
his on-ly son, our Lord.

He was con-ceived by/the power of/the Ho-ly Spi-rit
and born of/the Vir-gin Mar-y.
He suffered under Pon-tius Pi-late,
was cruci-fied, died, and was bur-ied.

He de-scended to/the dead.
On the third day he rose a-gain.
He a-scended into heav-en,
and is seated at/the right hand of/the Fath-er.

He will come a-gain
to judge the living and the dead.
We be-lieve in/the Ho-ly Spi-rit,
the _ holy catho-lic Church,

the com-mun-ion of saints,
the for-give-ness of sins,
the resur-rec-tion of/the bod-y,
and the life ever-last-ing. A-men.

Monday - Our Father

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

The Lord be with you.
And al-so with _ you.
Our Fath-er in heav-en,
hal-low-ed be your Name.

Your king-dom come,
your will be done on earth
as it is in heav-en.
Give us to-day our dai-ly bread.

For-give us our sins
as we _ for-give those
who sin a-gainst us.
Save us from/the time of tri-al,

De-liver us from e-vil.
For the king-dom, the pow-er,
and the glory are yours,
now and for-ever A-men.

We en-treat you, O Lord.

Collect of the Day

Almighty God, Lord of heaven and earth: We humbly pray that your gracious providence may give and preserve to our use the harvests of the land and of the seas, and may prosper all who labor to gather them, that we, who are constantly receiving good things from your hand, may always give you thanks; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Amen.

A Collect for Peace

Most holy God, the source of all good desires, all right judgements, and all just works: Give to us, your servants, that peace which the world cannot give, so that our minds may be fixed on the doing of your will, and that we, being delivered from the fear of all enemies, may live in peace and quietness; through the mercies of Christ Jesus our Savior.

Amen.

Prayer for Mission

O God and Father of all, whom the whole heavens adore: Let the whole earth also worship you, all nations obey you, all tongues confess and bless you, and men and women everywhere love you and serve you in peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

A Prayer of Saint Chrysostom

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Al-might-y God,
you have given us grace at this time
with one ac-cord
to make our common sup-pli-ca-tion to you;

and you have prom-ised
through your well-be-loved Son
that when two or three are gathered in his Name
you will be in/the midst of them:

Ful-fill now, O Lord, our de-sires and pe-ti-tions
as may be best for us;
granting us in this world knowl-edge of your truth,
and in/the age to come life ever-lasting. A-men.

Monday - Closing Blessings

with all joy and peace in be-liev-ing
through the power of/the Ho-ly Spi-rit. A-men.

VB0011 - Amazing Grace

All      Source      Instruments      Soprano      Alto      Tenor      Bass      PDF

[Verse 1]

A-maz-ing grace! how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

[Verse 2]

The Lord has prom-ised good to me,
His Word my hope se-cures;
He will my shield and por-tion be
As long as life en-dures.

[Verse 3]

Through man-y dan-gers, toils, and snares
I have al-read-y come;
His grace has brought me safe thus far,
His grace will lead me home.

[Verse 4]

Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail
And mor-tal life shall cease,
A-maz-ing grace shall then pre-vail
In heav-en's joy and peace.

[Verse 5]

When we’ve been there ten thou-sand years,
Bright shin-ing as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’d first be-gun.
