Invitation

Advent - Tuesday Invitation

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Watch, for you know not when
the mas-ter of/the house will come,
at dusk, by night, at dawn, or by day;
lest he come sudden-ly and find you a-sleep.

In/the wilder-ness pre-pare the way of/the Lord,
make straight in/the desert a high-way for our God.
The glory of/the Lord shall be re-vealed,
and all flesh shall see/it to-geth-er.

The hour is coming, and now is,
when the true wor-ship-ers
will wor-ship the Fath-er
in spi-rit and in truth,

for such are the follow-ers
the Fath-er seeks to wor-ship him.
Lord, o-pen our lips.
And our mouths shall pro-claim your praise.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Tuesday - Jubilate

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Be joy-ful in/the Lord, all you lands;
serve the Lord with glad-ness
and come be-fore his presence with a song.
Know this: The Lord him-self is God;

He him-self has made us, and we are his;
we are his people and the sheep of his pas-ture.
Enter his gates with thanks-giv-ing;
go into his courts with praise;

Give thanks to him and call on his Name.
Be-cause the Lord is good;
his mercy is ever last-ing;
and his faithful-ness en-dures from age to age.

Psalms

Psalm 26

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Vindi-cate me, O Lord, for I have in-tegri-ty,
and I trust in/the Lord with-out waver-ing.
Ex-amine me, O Lord, and test me!
E-valu-ate my inner thoughts and mo-tives!

For I am ever a-ware of your faithful-ness,
and your loyal-ty con-tin-ual-ly moti-vates me.
I do not as-soci-ate with de-ceitful men,
or con-sort with those who are dis-hon-est.

I hate the mob of evil men,
and do not as-soci-ate with/the wick-ed.
I main-tain a pure life-style,
so I can ap-pear be-fore your al-tar, O Lord,

to give you thanks,
and to tell/a-bout all your a-mazing deeds.
O Lord, I love the tem-ple where you live,
the place where your splen-dor is re-vealed.

Don't sweep me a-way with sin-ners,
or exe-cute me a-long with vio-lent peo-ple,
who are al-ways ready to do wrong or offer a bribe.
But I have in-tegri-ty!

Res-cue me and have mer-cy on me!
I am safe, and a-mong the wor-ship-ers
I will praise the Lord.
and bless his name for-ev-er

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Psalm 28

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

To you, O Lord, I cry out!
My pro-tec-tor, do not ig-nore me!
If you don't re-spond to me,
I will join those who are de-scending into the grave.

Hear my plea for mer-cy
when I cry out to you for help,
when I lift my hands toward your holy tem-ple!
Don't drag me a-way with evil men,

Or with those who be-have wicked-ly,
who talk so friend-ly to their neigh-bor,
while they plan to harm them!
Pay them back for their evil deeds!

Pay them back for what they do! Pun-ish them!
For they don't under-stand the Lord's ac-tions,
or the way he carries out jus-tice.
The Lord will perma-nent-ly de-mol-ish them.

The Lord de-serves my praise,
For he has heard my plea for mer-cy!
The Lord strengthens and pro-tects me;
I trust in him with all my heart.

I am res-cued and my heart is full of joy;
I will sing to him in grat-i-tude.
The Lord strengthens his peo-ple;
he pro-tects and de-livers his chosen king.

De-liver your people, O God!
Em-power the na-tions that be-longs to you!
Care for them like a shep-herd
and carry them in your arms at all times!

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Readings

A reading from Isaiah 5:13-17, 24-25

Therefore my people will be deported
because of their lack of understanding.
Their leaders will have nothing to eat,
their masses will have nothing to drink.

So Death will open up its throat,
and open wide its mouth;
Zion’s dignitaries and masses will descend into it,
including those who revel and celebrate within her.

Men will be humiliated,
they will be brought low;
the proud will be brought low.

The Lord of Heaven’s Armies will be exalted when he punishes,
the holy God’s authority will be recognized when he judges.

Lambs will graze as if in their pastures,
amid the ruins the rich sojourners will graze.

Therefore, as flaming fire devours straw
and dry grass disintegrates in the flames,
so their root will rot,
and their flower will blow away like dust.
For they have rejected the law of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies,
they have spurned the commands of the Holy One of Israel.

So the Lord is furious with his people;
he lifts his hand and strikes them.
The mountains shake,
and corpses lie like manure in the middle of the streets.
Despite all this, his anger does not subside,
and his hand is ready to strike again.

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Tuesday - Song of Zechariah

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Bless-ed be the Lord, the God of Is-ra-el;
he has come to his people and set them free.
He has raised up for us a mighty sav-ior,
born of/the house of his servant Da-vid.

Through his holy proph-ets he prom-ised of old,
that he would save us from our ene-mies,
from the hands of all who hate us.
He prom-ised to show mer-cy to our fath-ers

and to re-member his holy cov-e-nant.
This was the oath he swore to our fath-er A-bra-ham,
to set us free from/the hands of our ene-mies,
Free to wor-ship him without fear,

ho-ly and righteous in his sight
all the days of our life.
And you, my child, shall be called
the proph-et of/the Most High,

for you will go be-fore the Lord to pre-pare his way,
To give his people knowledge of sal-va-tion
by the for-give-ness of their sins.
In/the tender com-pas-sion of our God

the dawn from on high shall break up-on us,
To shine on those who dwell in dark-ness
and in/the shadow of death,
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

A reading from Luke 21:29-38

Then he told them a parable: “Look at the fig tree and all the other trees. When they sprout leaves, you see for yourselves and know that summer is now near. So also you, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near. I tell you the truth, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

“But be on your guard so that your hearts are not weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of this life, and that day close down upon you suddenly like a trap. For it will overtake all who live on the face of the whole earth. But stay alert at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that must happen, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

So every day Jesus was teaching in the temple courts, but at night he went and stayed on the Mount of Olives. And all the people came to him early in the morning to listen to him in the temple courts.

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Tuesday - Song to the Lamb

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Splendor and honor and king-ly power
are yours by right, O Lord our God,
For you cre-ated every-thing that is,
and by your will they were cre-ated and have their be-ing;

And yours by right, O Lamb that was slain,
for with your blood you have re-deemed for God,
From eve-ry fami-ly, lan-guage, people, and na-tion,
a kingdom of priests to serve our God.

And so, to him who sits up-on/the throne,
and to Je-sus Christ the Lamb,
Be worship and praise, do-min-ion and splen-dor,
for-ever and for-ever-more.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Prayers

Tuesday Creed

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

We be-lieve in God, the Fath-er al-might-y,
cre-a-tor of heaven and earth.
We be-lieve in Je-sus Christ,
his on-ly son, our Lord.

He was con-ceived by/the power of/the Ho-ly Spi-rit
and born of/the Vir-gin Mar-y.
He suffered under Pon-tius Pi-late,
was cruci-fied, died, and was bur-ied.

He de-scended to/the dead.
On the third day he rose a-gain.
He a-scended into heav-en,
and is seated at/the right hand of/the Fath-er.

He will come a-gain
to judge the living and the dead.
We be-lieve in/the Ho-ly Spi-rit,
the _ holy catho-lic Church,

the com-mun-ion of saints,
the for-give-ness of sins,
the resur-rec-tion of/the bod-y,
and the life ever-last-ing. A-men.

Tuesday - Our Father

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

The Lord be with you.
And al-so with _ you.
Our Fath-er in heav-en,
hal-low-ed be your Name.

Your king-dom come,
your will be done on earth
as it is in heav-en.
Give us to-day our dai-ly bread.

For-give us our sins
as we _ for-give those
who sin a-gainst us.
Save us from/the time of tri-al,

De-liver us from e-vil.
For the king-dom, the pow-er,
and the glory are yours,
now and for-ever A-men.

Tuesday - Morning Suffrages A

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Show us your mer-cy, O Lord;
And grant us your sal-va-tion.
Clothe your minis-ters with righteous-ness;
Let your people sing with joy.

Give peace, O Lord, in all the world;
For only in you can we live in safe-ty.
Lord, keep this na-tion under your care;
And guide us in/the way of justice and truth.

Let your way be known up-on earth;
Your sav-ing health a-mong all na-tions.
Let not the need-y, O Lord, be for-got-ten;
Nor the hope of/the poor be taken a-way.

Cre-ate in us clean hearts, O God;
And sus-tain us with your Ho-ly Spi-rit.
Show us your mer-cy, O Lord;
And grant us your sal-va-tion.

Collect of the Day

Almighty God, whose Son Jesus Christ in his earthly life shared our toil and hallowed our labor: Be present with your people where they work; make those who carry on the industries and commerce of this land responsive to your will; and give to us all a pride in what we do, and a just return for our labor; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Amen.

A Collect for Peace

O God, the author of peace and lover of concord, to know you is eternal life and to serve you is perfect freedom: Defend us, your humble servants, in all assaults of our enemies; that we, surely trusting in your defense, may not fear the power of any adversaries; through the might of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Prayer for Mission

Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace: So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you; for the honor of your Name.

Amen.

General Thanksgiving

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Al-might-y God, Fa-ther of all mer-cies,
we your un-worthy serv-ants give you hum-ble thanks
for all your good-ness and loving kind-ness
to us and to all whom you have made.

We bless you for our cre-a-tion, pres-er-va-tion,
and all the blessings of this life;
but above all for your im-measur-able love
in\the re-demp-tion of\the world by our Lord Je-sus Christ;

for\the means of grace, and for\the hope of glory.
And, we pray, give\us such\an a-ware-ness of your mer-cy,
that with truly thank-ful hearts
we may show forth your praise,

not only with our lips, but in our lives,
by giving up our selves to your ser-vice,
and by walking be-fore you
in holi-ness and righteous-ness all our days;

through Je-sus Christ our Lord,
to whom, with you and the Ho-ly Spi-rit,
be hon-or and glo-ry
through-out all the ag-es. A-men.
