Invitation

Advent - Saturday Invitation

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Watch, for you know not when
the mas-ter of/the house will come,
at dusk, by night, at dawn, or by day;
lest he come sudden-ly and find you a-sleep.

In/the wilder-ness pre-pare the way of/the Lord,
make straight in/the desert a high-way for our God.
The glory of/the Lord shall be re-vealed,
and all flesh shall see/it to-geth-er.

The hour is coming, and now is,
when the true wor-ship-ers
will wor-ship the Fath-er
in spi-rit and in truth,

for such are the follow-ers
the Fath-er seeks to wor-ship him.
Lord, o-pen our lips.
And our mouths shall pro-claim your praise.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Saturday - Jubilate

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Be joy-ful in/the Lord, all you lands;
serve the Lord with glad-ness
and come be-fore his presence with a song.
Know this: The Lord him-self is God;

He him-self has made us, and we are his;
we are his people and the sheep of his pas-ture.
Enter his gates with thanks-giv-ing;
go into his courts with praise;

Give thanks to him and call on his Name.
Be-cause the Lord is good;
his mercy is ever last-ing;
and his faithful-ness en-dures from age to age.

Psalms

Psalm 28

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

To you, O Lord, I cry out!
My pro-tec-tor, do not ig-nore me!
If you don't re-spond to me,
I will join those who are de-scending into the grave.

Hear my plea for mer-cy
when I cry out to you for help,
when I lift my hands toward your holy tem-ple!
Don't drag me a-way with evil men,

Or with those who be-have wicked-ly,
who talk so friend-ly to their neigh-bor,
while they plan to harm them!
Pay them back for their evil deeds!

Pay them back for what they do! Pun-ish them!
For they don't under-stand the Lord's ac-tions,
or the way he carries out jus-tice.
The Lord will perma-nent-ly de-mol-ish them.

The Lord de-serves my praise,
For he has heard my plea for mer-cy!
The Lord strengthens and pro-tects me;
I trust in him with all my heart.

I am res-cued and my heart is full of joy;
I will sing to him in grat-i-tude.
The Lord strengthens his peo-ple;
he pro-tects and de-livers his chosen king.

De-liver your people, O God!
Em-power the na-tions that be-longs to you!
Care for them like a shep-herd
and carry them in your arms at all times!

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Psalm 30

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

I will praise you, O Lord, for you lifted me up,
and did not al-low my ene-mies to gloat over me.
O Lord my God, I cried out/to you and you healed me.
O Lord, you pulled me up from She-ol;

you res-cued me from a-mong those de-scending into the grave.
Sing to/the Lord, you faithful follow-ers of his;
give thanks to his holy name.
For his an-ger lasts only a brief mo-ment,

and his good favor re-stores one's life.
One may ex-peri-ence sor-row during the night,
but joy ar-rives in/the morn-ing.
In my self-confi-dence I said, I will never be shak-en.

O Lord, in your good favor you made me se-cure.
Then you re-ject-ed me and I was terri-fied.
To you, O Lord, I cried out;
I begged the Lord for mer-cy:

What profit is there in tak-ing my life,
in my de-scending into the Pit?
Can the dust of/the grave praise you?
Can it de-clare your loy-al-ty?

Hear, O Lord, and have mer-cy on me!
O Lord my God, de-liver me!
Then you turned my la-ment into danc-ing;
you re-moved my sack-cloth

You covered me with joy.
So now my heart will sing to you
and I will not be si-lent;
O Lord my God, I will al-ways give thanks to you.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Readings

A reading from 2 Chronicles 24:17-22

After Jehoiada died, the officials of Judah visited the king and declared their loyalty to him. The king listened to their advice. They abandoned the temple of the Lord God of their ancestors and worshiped the Asherah poles and idols. Because of this sinful activity, God was angry with Judah and Jerusalem. The Lord sent prophets among them to lead them back to him. They warned the people, but they would not pay attention. God’s Spirit energized Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest. He stood up before the people and said to them, “This is what God says: ‘Why are you violating the commands of the Lord? You will not be prosperous. Because you have rejected the Lord, he has rejected you!’” They plotted against him and by royal decree stoned him to death in the courtyard of the Lord’s temple. King Joash disregarded the loyalty Zechariah’s father Jehoiada had shown him and killed Jehoiada’s son. As Zechariah was dying, he said, “May the Lord take notice and seek vengeance!”

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Saturday - Second Song of Isaiah

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Seek the Lord while he wills to/be found;
call up-on him when he draws near.
Let the wicked for-sake their ways
and the evil ones their thoughts;

And let them turn to/the Lord,
and he will have com-passion,
Let then re-turn to our God,
for he will rich-ly par-don.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
nor your ways my ways, says the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways,

and my thoughts than your thoughts.
For as rain and snow fall from/the heav-ens
and re-turns not a-gain,
but wat-ers the whole earth,

Bring-ing forth life
and giving a-bun-dant growth
And seed for re-plan-ting
and bread and fruit for eat-ing,

So is my word that goes forth from my mouth;
it will not re-turn to me emp-ty;
But it will ac-com-plish that which I have pur-posed,
and prosper in that for which I sent it.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

A reading from Acts 6:1-7

Now in those days, when the disciples were growing in number, a complaint arose on the part of the Greek-speaking Jews against the native Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. So the twelve called the whole group of the disciples together and said, “It is not right for us to neglect the word of God to wait on tables. But carefully select from among you, brothers, seven men who are well-attested, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may put in charge of this necessary task. But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” The proposal pleased the entire group, so they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, with Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas, a Gentile convert to Judaism from Antioch. They stood these men before the apostles, who prayed and placed their hands on them. The word of God continued to spread, the number of disciples in Jerusalem increased greatly, and a large group of priests became obedient to the faith.

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Glori-fy the Lord, all you works of/the Lord,

In/the firma-ment of his power, glori-fy the Lord,
praise him and highly ex-alt him for ev-er.

Glori-fy the Lord, you an-gels and all powers of/the Lord,
O heavens and all waters a-bove the heav-ens.
Sun and moon and stars of/the sky, glori-fy the Lord,

Glori-fy the Lord, eve-ry shower of rain and fall of dew,
all winds and fire and heat.
Win-ter and Sum-mer, glori-fy the Lord,
praise him and highly ex-alt him for ev-er.

Glori-fy the Lord, O chill and cold,
drops of dew and flakes of snow.
Frost and cold, ice and sleet, glori-fy the Lord,
praise him and highly ex-alt him for ev-er.

Glori-fy the Lord, O nights and days,
O shin-ing light and en-fold-ing dark.
Storm clouds and thunder-bolts, glori-fy the Lord,
praise him and highly ex-alt him for ev-er.

Let the earth glori-fy the Lord,
praise him and highly ex-alt him for ev-er.
Glori-fy the Lord, O mountains and hills, and all/that grows up-on the earth,
praise him for ev-er. Glori-fy the Lord,

O springs of water, sea, and streams,
O whales and all that move in/the wat-ers.
All birds of/the air, glori-fy the Lord,
praise him and highly ex-alt him for ev-er.

Glori-fy the Lord, O beasts of/the wild,
and all you flocks and herds.
O men and women every-where, glori-fy the Lord,
praise him and highly ex-alt him for ev-er.

Let the people of God glori-fy the Lord,
praise him and highly ex-alt him for ev-er.
Glori-fy the Lord, O priests and servants of/the Lord,
praise him and highly ex-alt him for ev-er.

Glori-fy the Lord, O spirits and souls of/the right-eous
praise him and highly ex-alt him for ev-er.
You that are holy and hum-ble of heart, glori-fy the Lord,
praise him and highly ex-alt him for ev-er.

Let us glori-fy the Lord: Fath-er, Son, and Ho-ly Spi-rit;
praise him and highly ex-alt him for ev-er.
In/the firma-ment of his power, glori-fy the Lord,
praise him and highly ex-alt him for ev-er.

Saturday Creed

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

We be-lieve in God, the Fath-er al-might-y,
cre-a-tor of heaven and earth.
We be-lieve in Je-sus Christ,
his on-ly son, our Lord.

He was con-ceived by/the power of/the Ho-ly Spi-rit
and born of/the Vir-gin Mar-y.
He suffered under Pon-tius Pi-late,
was cruci-fied, died, and was bur-ied.

He de-scended to/the dead.
On the third day he rose a-gain.
He a-scended into heav-en,
and is seated at/the right hand of/the Fath-er.

He will come a-gain
to judge the living and the dead.
We be-lieve in/the Ho-ly Spi-rit,
the _ holy catho-lic Church,

the com-mun-ion of saints,
the for-give-ness of sins,
the resur-rec-tion of/the bod-y,
and the life ever-last-ing. A-men.

The Lord be with you.
And al-so with _ you.
Our Fath-er in heav-en,
hal-low-ed be your Name.

Your king-dom come,
your will be done on earth
as it is in heav-en.
Give us to-day our dai-ly bread.

For-give us our sins
as we _ for-give those
who sin a-gainst us.
Save us from/the time of tri-al,

De-liver us from e-vil.
For the king-dom, the pow-er,
and the glory are yours,
now and for-ever A-men.

Saturday - Morning Suffrages A

Show us your mer-cy, O Lord;
And grant us your sal-va-tion.
Clothe your minis-ters with righteous-ness;
Let your people sing with joy.

Give peace, O Lord, in all the world;
For only in you can we live in safe-ty.
Lord, keep this na-tion under your care;
And guide us in/the way of justice and truth.

Let your way be known up-on earth;
Your sav-ing health a-mong all na-tions.
Let not the need-y, O Lord, be for-got-ten;
Nor the hope of/the poor be taken a-way.

Cre-ate in us clean hearts, O God;
And sus-tain us with your Ho-ly Spi-rit.
Show us your mer-cy, O Lord;
And grant us your sal-va-tion.

A Collect for Saturdays

Almighty God, who after the creation of the world rested from all your works and sanctified a day of rest for all your creatures: Grant that we, putting away all earthly anxieties, may be duly prepared for the service of your sanctuary, and that our rest here upon earth may be a preparation for the eternal rest promised to your people in heaven; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.
