Tuesday - Evensong Invitation

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Grace to you and peace from God our Fa-ther
and from/the Lord Je-sus Christ.
Wor-ship the Lord in/the beau-ty of his holi-ness;
let the whole earth trem-ble be-fore him.

Let my prayer be set forth in your sight as in-cense,
the lifting up of my hands as the eve-ning sacri-fice.
I will bless the Lord who gives me coun-sel;
my heart teaches me, night after night.

I have set the Lord al-ways be-fore me;
be-cause he is at my right hand, I shall not fall.
O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Tuesday - O Gracious Light

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

O gra-cious light, pure bright-ness
of the ever-liv-ing Fath-er in heav-en,
O Je-sus Christ, holy and bless-ed!
we sing your prais-es, O God!

Now as we come to/the setting of/the sun,
and our eyes be-hold the ves-per light,
we sing your prais-es, O God:
Fath-er, Son, and Ho-ly Spi-rit.

You are worthy at all times
to be praised by happy voic-es,
O Son of God, O Giver of life,
and to be glori-fied through all the worlds.

Psalms

Psalm 18:21-50

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

For I have o-beyed the Lord's com-mands;
I have not re-belled a-gainst my God.
For I am/a-ware of all his regu-la-tions,
and I do not re-ject his rules.

I was inno-cent be-fore him,
and kept my-self from sin-ning.
The Lord re-warded me for my god-ly deeds;
he took no-tice of my blame-less be-hav-ior.

You prove to be loy-al
to _ one who is faithful;
you prove to be trust-wor-thy
to one who is inno-cent.

You prove to be re-lia-ble
to one who is blame-less,
but you prove to be de-cep-tive
to one who is per-verse.

For you de-liver op-pressed peo-ple,
but you bring down those who have a proud look.
In-deed, you light my lamp, Lord.
My God il-lumi-nates the dark-ness a-round me.

In-deed, with your help
I can charge a-gainst an ar-my;
by my God's power
I can jump over a wall.

The one true God acts in a faithful man-ner;
the Lord's prom-ise is re-lia-ble;
he is/a shield to all who take shelter in him.
In-deed, who is God be-sides the Lord?

Who is/a pro-tec-tor be-sides our God?
The one true God gives me strength;
he re-moves the obsta-cles in my way.
He gives me the a-gili-ty of a deer;

he en-a-bles me to ne-go-tiate the rugged ter-rain.
He trains my hands for bat-tle;
my arms can bend even the strong-est bow.
You give me your pro-tec-tive shield;

your right hand sup-ports me;
your willing-ness to help en-a-bles me to pre-vail.
You wid-en my path;
and my feet do not slip.

I chase my ene-mies and catch them;
I do not turn back un-til I wipe them out.
I beat them to death;
they all fall at my feet.

You give me strength for bat-tle;
you make my foes kneel be-fore me.
You make my ene-mies re-treat;
I de-stroy those who hate me.

They cry out, but there is no one to help them;
they _ cry out to/the Lord,
but he does not an-swer them.
I grind them as fine as wind-blown dust;

I beat them under-foot;
the are like clay in/the street.
You res-cue me from a hos-tile ar-my;
you make me a leader of na-tions;

Peo-ple over whom I had no au-thor-i-ty
are now my loyal sub-jects.
When they hear of my ex-ploits,
they sub-mit them-selves to me.

Foreign-ers are power-less be-fore me;
foreign-ers lose their cour-age;
they shake with fear as they leave their strong-holds.
The Lord is/a-live! My pro-tec-tor is praise-wor-thy!

The God who de-livers me is ex-alted as king!
The one true God com-plete-ly vindi-cates me;
he makes na-tions sub-mit to me.
He de-livers me from my ene-mies;

you snatch me a-way from those who at-tack me;
you res-cue me from vio-lent men.
So I will give you thanks
be-fore the na-tions, O Lord!

I will sing praises to you!
He gives his king mag-nifi-cent vic-to-ry;
he is faithful to his chosen rul-er,
to Da-vid and his de-scend-ants for-ev-er.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Readings

A reading from Revelation 1:1-8

The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must happen very soon. He made it clear by sending his angel to his servant John, who then testified to everything that he saw concerning the word of God and the testimony about Jesus Christ. Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy aloud, and blessed are those who hear and obey the things written in it, because the time is near!

From John, to the seven churches that are in the province of Asia: Grace and peace to you from “he who is,” and who was, and who is still to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, and from Jesus Christ—the faithful witness, the firstborn from among the dead, the ruler over the kings of the earth. To the one who loves us and has set us free from our sins at the cost of his own blood and has appointed us as a kingdom, as priests serving his God and Father—to him be the glory and the power for ever and ever! Amen.

(Look! He is returning with the clouds,
and every eye will see him,
even those who pierced him,
and all the tribes on the earth will mourn because of him.
This will certainly come to pass! Amen.)

“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God—the one who is, and who was, and who is still to come—the All-Powerful!

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Tuesday - Song to the Lamb

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Splendor and honor and king-ly power
are yours by right, O Lord our God,
For you cre-ated every-thing that is,
and by your will they were cre-ated and have their be-ing;

And yours by right, O Lamb that was slain,
for with your blood you have re-deemed for God,
From eve-ry fami-ly, lan-guage, people, and na-tion,
a kingdom of priests to serve our God.

And so, to him who sits up-on/the throne,
and to Je-sus Christ the Lamb,
Be worship and praise, do-min-ion and splen-dor,
for-ever and for-ever-more.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

A reading from John 7:37-52

On the last day of the feast, the greatest day, Jesus stood up and shouted out, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me, and let the one who believes in me drink. Just as the scripture says, ‘From within him will flow rivers of living water.’” (Now he said this about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were going to receive, for the Spirit had not yet been given because Jesus was not yet glorified.)

When they heard these words, some of the crowd began to say, “This really is the Prophet!” Others said, “This is the Christ!” But still others said, “No, for the Christ doesn’t come from Galilee, does he? Don’t the scriptures say that the Christ is a descendant of David and comes from Bethlehem, the village where David lived?” So there was a division in the crowd because of Jesus. Some of them were wanting to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him.

Then the officers returned to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, “Why didn’t you bring him back with you?” The officers replied, “No one ever spoke like this man!” Then the Pharisees answered, “You haven’t been deceived too, have you? None of the members of the ruling council or the Pharisees have believed in him, have they? But this rabble who do not know the law are accursed!”

Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus before and who was one of the rulers, said, “Our law doesn’t condemn a man unless it first hears from him and learns what he is doing, does it?” They replied, “You aren’t from Galilee too, are you? Investigate carefully and you will see that no prophet comes from Galilee!”

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Tuesday - Third Song of Isaiah

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

A-rise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of/the Lord has dawned up-on you.
For be-hold, dark-ness covers the land;
deep gloom en-shrouds the peo-ples.

But over you the Lord will rise,
and his glory will ap-pear up-on you.
Na-tions will stream to your light,
and kings to/the bright-ness of your dawn-ing.

Your gates will al-ways be o-pen;
by day or night they will never be shut.
They will call you, The City of/the Lord,
The Zi-on of/the Ho-ly One of Is-ra-el.

Vio-lence will/no more be heard in your land,
ru-in or de-struc-tion with-in your bor-ders.
You will call your walls, Sal-va-tion,
and all your por-tals, Praise.

The sun will/no more be your light by day;
by night you will/not need the brightness of/the moon.
The Lord will be your ever-last-ing light,
and your God will be your glo-ry.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for ever. A-men.

Tuesday Creed

We be-lieve in God, the Fath-er al-might-y,
cre-a-tor of heaven and earth.
We be-lieve in Je-sus Christ,
his on-ly son, our Lord.

He was con-ceived by/the power of/the Ho-ly Spi-rit
and born of/the Vir-gin Mar-y.
He suffered under Pon-tius Pi-late,
was cruci-fied, died, and was bur-ied.

He de-scended to/the dead.
On the third day he rose a-gain.
He a-scended into heav-en,
and is seated at/the right hand of/the Fath-er.

He will come a-gain
to judge the living and the dead.
We be-lieve in/the Ho-ly Spi-rit,
the _ holy catho-lic Church,

the com-mun-ion of saints,
the for-give-ness of sins,
the resur-rec-tion of/the bod-y,
and the life ever-last-ing. A-men.

Your king-dom come,
your will be done on earth
as it is in heav-en.
Give us to-day our dai-ly bread.

For-give us our sins
as we _ for-give those
who sin a-gainst us.

For the king-dom, the pow-er,
and the glory are yours,
now and for-ever A-men.

Collect of the Day

Almighty God, whose Son Jesus Christ in his earthly life shared our toil and hallowed our labor: Be present with your people where they work; make those who carry on the industries and commerce of this land responsive to your will; and give to us all a pride in what we do, and a just return for our labor; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Amen.

A Collect for Aid against Perils

Be our light in the darkness, O Lord, and in your great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night; for the love of your only Son, our Savior Jesus Christ.

Amen.

Prayer for Mission

O God and Father of all, whom the whole heavens adore: Let the whole earth also worship you, all nations obey you, all tongues confess and bless you, and men and women everywhere love you and serve you in peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

A Prayer of Saint Chrysostom

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Al-might-y God,
you have given us grace at this time
with one ac-cord
to make our common sup-pli-ca-tion to you;

and you have prom-ised
through your well-be-loved Son
that when two or three are gathered in his Name
you will be in/the midst of them:

Ful-fill now, O Lord, our de-sires and pe-ti-tions
as may be best for us;
granting us in this world knowl-edge of your truth,
and in/the age to come life ever-lasting. A-men.
