Saturday - Evensong Invitation

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Grace to you and peace from God our Fa-ther
and from/the Lord Je-sus Christ.
Wor-ship the Lord in/the beau-ty of his holi-ness;
let the whole earth trem-ble be-fore him.

Let my prayer be set forth in your sight as in-cense,
the lifting up of my hands as the eve-ning sacri-fice.
I will bless the Lord who gives me coun-sel;
my heart teaches me, night after night.

I have set the Lord al-ways be-fore me;
be-cause he is at my right hand, I shall not fall.
O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Saturday - O Gracious Light

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

O gra-cious light, pure bright-ness
of the ever-liv-ing Fath-er in heav-en,
O Je-sus Christ, holy and bless-ed!
we sing your prais-es, O God!

Now as we come to/the setting of/the sun,
and our eyes be-hold the ves-per light,
we sing your prais-es, O God:
Fath-er, Son, and Ho-ly Spi-rit.

You are worthy at all times
to be praised by happy voic-es,
O Son of God, O Giver of life,
and to be glori-fied through all the worlds.

Psalms

Psalm 42

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

As a deer longs for streams of wat-er,
so I long for you, O God!
I thirst for God, for/the liv-ing God.
When will I be able to ap-pear in God's pres-ence?

I can-not eat,
and I weep day and night;
all day long they say/to me, Where is your God?
I will re-member and weep!

For I was once walking a-long
with the great throng to/the tem-ple of God,
shout-ing and giving thanks a-long with/the crowd
as we cele-brat-ed the holy fes-ti-val.

Why are you de-pressed, O my soul?
Why are you up-set? Wait for God!
For I will a-gain give thanks to my God
for his saving inter-ven-tion.

I am de-pressed, so I will pray to you
while in/the re-gion of/the up-per Jor-dan,
from Hermon, from Mount Miz-ar.
One deep stream calls out to an-oth-er

At the sound of your wat-er-fall;
all your billows and waves over-whelm me.
By day the Lord de-crees his loyal love,
and by night he gives me a song,

a prayer to/the God of my life.
I will pray to God, my high ridge:
Why do you ig-nore me?
Why must I walk a-round mourn-ing?

Be-cause my ene-mies op-press me?
My ene-mies taunts cut me to/the bone,
as they say/to me all day long,
So where then is your God?

Why are you de-pressed, O my soul?
Why are you up-set? Wait for God!
For I will a-gain give thanks to my God
for his saving inter-ven-tion.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Psalm 43

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Vindi-cate me, O God!
Fight for me a-gainst an un-godly na-tion!
De-liver me from de-ceitful and evil men!
For you are the God who shelters me.

Why do you re-ject me?
Why must I walk a-round mourn-ing
be-cause my ene-mies op-press me?
Re-veal your light and your faithful-ness!

They will lead me,
and they will es-cort me
back to your holy hill,
and to/the place where you live.

Then I will go to/the al-tar of God,
to the God who gives me ec-stat-ic joy,
so that I ex-press my thanks to you,
O God, my God, with a harp.

Why are you de-pressed, O my soul?
Why are you up-set? Wait for God!
For I will a-gain give thanks to my God
for his saving inter-ven-tion.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Readings

A reading from 2 Thessalonians 3:6-18

But we command you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to keep away from any brother who lives an undisciplined life and not according to the tradition they received from us. For you know yourselves how you must imitate us, because we did not behave without discipline among you, and we did not eat anyone’s food without paying. Instead, in toil and drudgery we worked night and day in order not to burden any of you. It was not because we do not have that right, but to give ourselves as an example for you to imitate. For even when we were with you, we used to give you this command: “If anyone is not willing to work, neither should he eat.” For we hear that some among you are living an undisciplined life, not doing their own work but meddling in the work of others. Now such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to work quietly and so provide their own food to eat. But you, brothers and sisters, do not grow weary in doing what is right. But if anyone does not obey our message through this letter, take note of him and do not associate closely with him, so that he may be ashamed. Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with you all. I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand, which is how I write in every letter. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Saturday - Glory to God

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Glory to God in/the high-est,
and peace to his people on earth.
Lord God, heaven-ly King,
al-might-y God and Fath-er,

We worship you, we give you thanks,
We praise you for your glo-ry.
Lord Je-sus Christ, only Son of/the Fath-er,
Lord God, _ Lamb of God,

You take/a-way the sin of/the world:
have mer-cy up-on us;
you are seated at/the right hand of/the Fath-er:
re-ceive _ our pray-er.

For you a-lone are/the Ho-ly One,
You a-lone are the Lord,
You a-lone are/the Most High, Je-sus Christ,
with/the Ho-ly Spi-rit, in/the glory of God the Fath-er.

A reading from Luke 22:31-38

“Simon, Simon, pay attention! Satan has demanded to have you all, to sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. When you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” But Peter said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death!” Jesus replied, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you have denied three times that you know me.”

Then Jesus said to them, “When I sent you out with no money bag, or traveler’s bag, or sandals, you didn’t lack anything, did you?” They replied, “Nothing.” He said to them, “But now, the one who has a money bag must take it, and likewise a traveler’s bag too. And the one who has no sword must sell his cloak and buy one. For I tell you that this scripture must be fulfilled in me, ‘And he was counted with the transgressors.’ For what is written about me is being fulfilled.” So they said, “Look, Lord, here are two swords.” Then he told them, “It is enough.”

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Saturday - Second Song of Isaiah

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Seek the Lord while he wills to/be found;
call up-on him when he draws near.
Let the wicked for-sake their ways
and the evil ones their thoughts;

And let them turn to/the Lord,
and he will have com-passion,
Let then re-turn to our God,
for he will rich-ly par-don.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
nor your ways my ways, says the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways,

and my thoughts than your thoughts.
For as rain and snow fall from/the heav-ens
and re-turns not a-gain,
but wat-ers the whole earth,

Bring-ing forth life
and giving a-bun-dant growth
And seed for re-plan-ting
and bread and fruit for eat-ing,

So is my word that goes forth from my mouth;
it will not re-turn to me emp-ty;
But it will ac-com-plish that which I have pur-posed,
and prosper in that for which I sent it.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Prayers

Saturday Creed

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

We be-lieve in God, the Fath-er al-might-y,
cre-a-tor of heaven and earth.
We be-lieve in Je-sus Christ,
his on-ly son, our Lord.

He was con-ceived by/the power of/the Ho-ly Spi-rit
and born of/the Vir-gin Mar-y.
He suffered under Pon-tius Pi-late,
was cruci-fied, died, and was bur-ied.

He de-scended to/the dead.
On the third day he rose a-gain.
He a-scended into heav-en,
and is seated at/the right hand of/the Fath-er.

He will come a-gain
to judge the living and the dead.
We be-lieve in/the Ho-ly Spi-rit,
the _ holy catho-lic Church,

the com-mun-ion of saints,
the for-give-ness of sins,
the resur-rec-tion of/the bod-y,
and the life ever-last-ing. A-men.

Saturday - Our Father

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

The Lord be with you.
And al-so with _ you.
Our Fath-er in heav-en,
hal-low-ed be your Name.

Your king-dom come,
your will be done on earth
as it is in heav-en.
Give us to-day our dai-ly bread.

For-give us our sins
as we _ for-give those
who sin a-gainst us.
Save us from/the time of tri-al,

De-liver us from e-vil.
For the king-dom, the pow-er,
and the glory are yours,
now and for-ever A-men.

Saturday - Evening Suffrages A

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Show us your mer-cy, O Lord;
And grant us your sal-va-tion.
Clothe your minis-ters with righteous-ness;
Let your people sing with joy.

Give peace, O Lord, in all the world;
For only in you can we live in safe-ty.
Lord, keep this na-tion under your care;
And guide us in/the way of justice and truth.

Let your way be known up-on earth;
Your sav-ing health among all na-tions.
Let not the need-y, O Lord, be for-got-ten;
Nor the hope of/the poor be taken a-way.

Cre-ate in us clean hearts, O God;
And sus-tain us by your Ho-ly Spi-rit.
Show us your mer-cy, O Lord;
And grant us your sal-va-tion.

Collect of the Day

Father in heaven, by your grace the virgin mother of your incarnate Son was blessed in bearing him, but still more blessed in keeping your word: Grant us who honor the exaltation of her lowliness to follow the example of her devotion to your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Amen.

A Collect for Saturdays

O God, the source of eternal light: Shed forth your unending day upon us who watch for you, that our lips may praise you, our lives may bless you, and our worship on the morrow give you glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Prayer for Mission

O God and Father of all, whom the whole heavens adore: Let the whole earth also worship you, all nations obey you, all tongues confess and bless you, and men and women everywhere love you and serve you in peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

A Prayer of Saint Chrysostom

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Al-might-y God,
you have given us grace at this time
with one ac-cord
to make our common sup-pli-ca-tion to you;

and you have prom-ised
through your well-be-loved Son
that when two or three are gathered in his Name
you will be in/the midst of them:

Ful-fill now, O Lord, our de-sires and pe-ti-tions
as may be best for us;
granting us in this world knowl-edge of your truth,
and in/the age to come life ever-lasting. A-men.
