Hymnal 1982 (H056) O come, o come Emmanuel

PARTS    PARTS-2

and ransom captive Israel
that mourns in lonely exile here
until the Son of God appear.

Refrain:
Rejoice! Rejoice! Immanuel

2 O come, O Wisdom from on high,
who ordered all things mightily;
to us the path of knowledge show
and teach us in its ways to go. Refrain

3 O come, O come, great Lord of might,
who to your tribes on Sinai's height
in ancient times did give the law
in cloud and majesty and awe. Refrain

4 O come, thou branch of Jesse's stem,
unto your own and rescue them!
From depths of hell your people save,
and give them victory o'er the grave. Refrain

Refrain:
Rejoice! Rejoice! Immanuel
Shall come to you, O Isreal.

1 O come, O come, Immanuel,
and ransom captive Israel
that mourns in lonely exile here
until the Son of God appear.

The Invitatory and Psalter

V: O God, make speed | to save | us.
R: O Lord, | make haste | to help | us.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

O Gracious Light Phos hilaron

O gracious light, pure brightness
of the everliving Father in heaven,
O Jesus Christ, holy and blessed!
Now as we come to the setting of the sun,
and our eyes behold the vesper light,
we sing your praises, O God:
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
You are worthy at all times
to be praised by happy voices,
O Son of God, O Giver of life,
and to be glorified through all the worlds.

Psalm 4

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

When I call out, an-swer me,
God who vindi-cates me!
Though I am hemmed in,
you will lead me into wide, o-pen place.

Have mer-cy on me
and re-spond to my prayer!
You men, how long will you try
to turn my hon-or into shame?

How long will you love what is worth-less
and search for what is de-cep-tive?
Real-ize that the Lord
shows the god-ly special fa-vor

The Lord re-sponds when I cry out to him.
Trem-ble with fear and do not sin!
Medi--tate as you lie in bed,
and re-pent of your ways!

Of-fer the pre-scribed sacri-fic-es
and al-ways trust in/the Lord!
Many say, Who can show us any-thing good?
Smile up-on us, Lord!

You make me hap-pi-er
than those who have a-bun-dant grain and wine.
I will lie down and sleep peace-ful-ly,
for you, Lord, make me safe and se-cure.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Psalm 7

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

O Lord my God, in you I have taken shel-ter.
De-liver me from all who chase me! Res-cue me!
Other-wise they will rip me to shreds like li-on;
they will tear me to bits

and no one will be able to res-cue me.
O Lord my God, if I have done what they say,
or if I am guilty of un-just ac-tions,
or have wronged my al-ly,

or helped his lawless ene-my,
may an ene-my re-lentless-ly chase me and catch me;
may he tram-ple me to death
and leave me lying dis-hon-ored in/the dust.

Stand up an-gri-ly, Lord!
Rise up with raging fury a-gainst my ene-my!
Wake up for my sake
and exe-cute the judg-ment you have de-creed for them!

The coun-tries are as-sem-bled all/a-round you;
take once more your right-ful place o-ver them!
The Lord judges the na-tions.
Vindi-cate me, Lord, be-cause am in-no-cent,

be-cause I am blameless, O Ex-alt-ed One!
May the evil deeds of/the wicked come to an end!
But make the inno-cent se-cure, O right-eous God,
you who ex-am-ine inner thoughts and mo-tives!

The Ex-alt-ed God is my shield,
the one who de-livers the moral-ly up-right.
God is just judge;
he is an-gry through-out the day.

If a per-son does not re-pent,
God will strike with his sword.
He has pre-pared to shoot his bow.
He has pre-pared deadly wea-pons to use a-gainst him;

He gets ready to shoot flaming ar-rows.
See the one who is filled with wicked-ness,
who con-ceives de-struc-tive plans,
and gives birth to harm-ful lies.

He digs pit
and then falls into the hole he has made.
He be-comes the vic-tim
of his own de-struc-tive plans

and the vio-lence he in-tended for oth-ers
then falls on his own head.
I will thank the Lord for his jus-tice;
I will sing praises to/the Lord Most High!

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Readings

A reading from 1 Thessalonians 1:1-10

From Paul and Silvanus and Timothy, to the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace and peace to you!

We thank God always for all of you as we mention you constantly in our prayers, because we recall in the presence of our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and endurance of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you, in that our gospel did not come to you merely in words, but in power and in the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction (surely you recall the character we displayed when we came among you to help you).

And you became imitators of us and of the Lord when you received the message with joy that comes from the Holy Spirit, despite great affliction. As a result you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. For from you the message of the Lord has echoed forth not just in Macedonia and Achaia, but in every place reports of your faith in God have spread, so that we do not need to say anything. For people everywhere report how you welcomed us and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus our deliverer from the coming wrath.

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Monday - Song of Praise

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Glory to you, Lord God of our fath-ers;
you are worthy of praise; glory to you.
Glory to you for/the radi-ance of your holy Name;
we will praise you and highly ex-alt you for ev-er.

Glory to you in/the splen-dor of your tem-ple;
on the throne of your maj-es-ty, glory to you.
Glory to you, seated be-tween the Cher-u-bim;
we will praise you and highly ex-alt you for ev-er.

Glory to you, be-hold-ing the depths;
in the high vault of heav-en, glory to you.
Glory to you, Fath-er, Son, and Ho-ly Spi-rit;
we will praise you and highly ex-alt you for ev-er.

A reading from Luke 20:1-8

Now one day, as Jesus was teaching the people in the temple courts and proclaiming the gospel, the chief priests and the experts in the law with the elders came up and said to him, “Tell us: By what authority are you doing these things? Or who is it who gave you this authority?”

He answered them, “I will also ask you a question, and you tell me: John’s baptism—was it from heaven or from people?” So they discussed it with one another, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Why did you not believe him?’ But if we say, ‘From people,’ all the people will stone us because they are convinced that John was a prophet.” So they replied that they did not know where it came from.

Then Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by whose authority I do these things.”

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Monday - Song of Simeon

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Lord, you now have set your ser-vant free
to go in peace as you have prom-ised;
For these eyes of mine have seen the Sav-ior,
whom you have pre-pared for all the world to see:

A Light to en-light-en the na-tions,
and the glory of your peo-ple Is-ra-el.
Lord, you now have set your ser-vant free
to go in peace as you have prom-ised;

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever. A-men.

The Lord be with you.
And al-so with you.
Our Fath-er in heav-en,
hal-low-ed be your Name.

Your king-dom come,
your will be done on earth
as it is in heav-en.
Give us to-day our dai-ly bread.

For-give us our sins
as we for-give those
who sin a-gainst us.
Save us from the time of tri-al,

De-liver us from e-vil.
For the king-dom, the pow-er,
and the glory are yours,
now and for-ever A-men.

Monday - Evening Suffrages A

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Show us your mer-cy, Lord;
And grant us your sal-va-tion.
Clothe your minis-ters with righteous-ness;
Let your peo-ple sing with joy.

Give peace, O Lord, in all the world;
For only in you can we live in safe-ty.
Lord, keep this na-tion under your care;
And guide us in/the way of justice and truth.

Let your way be known up-on earth;
Your sav-ing health among all na-tions.
Let not the need-y, O Lord, be for-gotten;
Nor the hope of/the poor be taken a-way.

Cre-ate in us clean hearts, God;
And sus-tain us by your Ho-ly Spi-rit.
Show us your mer-cy, Lord;
And grant us your sal-va-tion.

Collect of the Day

Almighty God, Lord of heaven and earth: We humbly pray that your gracious providence may give and preserve to our use the harvests of the land and of the seas, and may prosper all who labor to gather them, that we, who are constantly receiving good things from your hand, may always give you thanks; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Amen.

A Collect for Peace

Most holy God, the source of all good desires, all right judgements, and all just works: Give to us, your servants, that peace which the world cannot give, so that our minds may be fixed on the doing of your will, and that we, being delivered from the fear of all enemies, may live in peace and quietness; through the mercies of Christ Jesus our Savior.

Amen.

Prayer for Mission

O God and Father of all, whom the whole heavens adore: Let the whole earth also worship you, all nations obey you, all tongues confess and bless you, and men and women everywhere love you and serve you in peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

you will be in/the midst of them:

Ful-fill now, O Lord, our de-sires and pe-ti-tions
as may be best for us;
granting us in this world knowl-edge of your truth,
and in/the age to come life ever-lasting. A-men.

Evening Prayer - Friday November 27 2020

 Confession

Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you
in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done,
and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will,
and walk in your ways,
to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God, have mercy on us,
forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ,
strengthen us in all goodness,
and by the power of the Holy Spirit,
keep us in eternal life.
Amen.

VB Hymnal (VB0002) - Savior Breathe An Evening Blessing

Piano    PARTS    Soprano    Alto    Tenor    Bass     PDF

Savior, breathe an evening blessing,

Ere repose our spirits seal;
Sin and want we come confessing,
You can save and You can heal.

Though destruction walks around us,
Though the arrows near us fly,
Angel guards from You surround us;
We are safe if You are nigh.

Though the night be dark and dreary
Darkness cannot hide from You;
You are watching, never weary,
quick to see Your people through.

Should swift death this night o'ertake us,
And our beds become our tombs,
May the morn in heav'n awake us,
Clad in light and deathless blooms.

The Invitatory and Psalter

V: O God, make speed | to save | us.

Psalm 141

O Lord, I cry out to you.
God come quickly to me!
Pay at-ten-tion to me when/I cry out to you!
May you ac-cept my prayer like in-cense,

And my up-lifted hands like the eve-ning offer-ing!
O Lord, place guard on my mouth!
Pro-tect the open-ing of my lips!
Do not let me have evil de-sires,

Or par-tici-pate in sin-ful ac-tivi-ties
with men who be-have wicked-ly.
I will not eat their deli-ca-cies.
May the god-ly strike me/in love and cor-rect me!

May my head not re-fuse choice oil!
In-deed, my prayer is a wit-ness a-gainst their evil deeds.
They will be thrown over a cliff by their judg-es.
They will list-en to my words, for they are pleas-ant.

As when one plows and breaks up/the soil,
so our bones are scattered at the mouth of She-ol.
Sure-ly I am look-ing to you, O Sove-reign Lord.
In you take shel-ter.

Do not ex-pose me to dan-ger!
Pro-tect me from/the snare they have laid for me,
and the traps the evil-do-ers have set.
Let the wicked fall into their own net, while es-cape.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Psalm 142

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

To the Lord cry out;
to the Lord plead for mer-cy.
I pour out my/la-ment be-fore him;
I tell him a-bout my trou-ble.

E-ven when my strength leaves me,
you watch where my foot steps.
In the path where walk
they have hidden trap for me.

Look to/the right and see!
No one cares a-bout me.
I have no-where to run;
no one is con-cerned a-bout my life.

I cry out to you, Lord;
I say, You are my shel-ter,
my se-curi-ty in/the land of/the liv-ing.
List-en to my cry for help,

I cry out to you, Lord;
for I am in seri-ous trou-ble!
Res-cue me from those who chase me,
for they are strong-er than am.

Free me from pris-on,
that I may give thanks to your name.
Be-cause of me the god-ly will as-sem-ble,
for you will vindi-cate me.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever A-men.

Readings

A reading from Romans 15:7-13

Receive one another, then, just as Christ also received you, to God’s glory. For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the circumcised on behalf of God’s truth to confirm the promises made to the fathers, and thus the Gentiles glorify God for his mercy. As it is written, “Because of this I will confess you among the Gentiles, and I will sing praises to your name.” And again it says: “Rejoice, O Gentiles, with his people.” And again, “Praise the Lord all you Gentiles, and let all the peoples praise him.” And again Isaiah says, “The root of Jesse will come, and the one who rises to rule over the Gentiles, in him will the Gentiles hope.” Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in him, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Friday - You are God

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

You are God: we praise you;
You are the Lord; we ac-claim you;
You are the e-ter-nal Fath-er:
All cre-a-tion wor-ships you.

To you all an-gels, all the powers of heav-en,
Cher-u-bim and Ser-a-phim, sing in end-less praise:
Holy, ho-ly, holy Lord, God of power and might,
heav-en and earth are full of your glo-ry.

The glori-ous compan-y of a-pos-tles praises you.
The no-ble fellow-ship of proph-ets praises you.
The white robed army of mar-tyrs praises you.
Through-out the world the holy Church ac-claims you;

Fath-er, of majes-ty un-bound-ed,
your true and only Son, worthy of all wor-ship,
and the Ho-ly Spi-rit, ad-vocate and guide.
Three in one, we praise you for ev-er.

You, Christ, are the king of glo-ry,
the e-ter-nal Son of/the Fath-er.
When you be-came man to set us free
you did not shun the Vir-gin's womb.

You over-came the sting of death
and o-pened the kingdom of heaven to all be-liev-ers.
You are seated at Gods right hand in glo-ry.
We be-lieve that you will come and be our judge.

Come then, Lord, and help your peo-ple,
bought with/the price of your own blood,
and bring us with your saints
to glo-ry ever-last-ing.

A reading from Luke 19:28-40

After Jesus had said this, he continued on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. Now when he approached Bethphage and Bethany, at the place called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of the disciples, telling them, “Go to the village ahead of you. When you enter it, you will find a colt tied there that has never been ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ just say, ‘The Lord needs it.’” So those who were sent ahead found it exactly as he had told them. As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying that colt?” They replied, “The Lord needs it.” Then they brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt, and had Jesus get on it. As he rode along, they spread their cloaks on the road. As he approached the road leading down from the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen: “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” But some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” He answered, “I tell you, if they keep silent, the very stones will cry out!”

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Friday - First Song of Isaiah

Sure-ly, it is God who saves me;
I will trust in him and not be a-fraid.
For the Lord is my stronghold and my sure de-fense,
and he will be my Sav-ior.

There-fore you shall draw water with re-joic-ing
from the springs of sal-va-tion.
And on that day you shall say,
Give thanks to/the Lord and call up-on his Name;

Make his deeds known a-mong the peo-ples;
see that they re-member that his Name is ex-alt-ed.
Sing the prais-es of/the Lord,
for he has done great things,

And this is known in all the world.
Cry a-loud, in-habit-ants of Zi-on, ring out your joy,
for the great one in/the midst of you
is the Ho-ly One of Is-ra-el.

Glory to/the Fath-er, and to/the Son,
and to/the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in/the be-ginning, is now,
and will be for-ever. A-men.

Friday - Our Father

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

The Lord be with you.
And al-so with you.
Our Fath-er in heav-en,
hal-low-ed be your Name.

Your king-dom come,
your will be done on earth
as it is in heav-en.
Give us to-day our dai-ly bread.

For-give us our sins
as we for-give those
who sin a-gainst us.
Save us from the time of tri-al,

De-liver us from e-vil.
For the king-dom, the pow-er,
and the glory are yours,
now and for-ever A-men.

That this eve-ning may be ho-ly, good, and peace-ful,
We en-treat you, Lord.
That your holy an-gels may lead us in paths of peace and good-will,
We en-treat you, Lord.

That we may be pardoned and for-given for our sins and of-fens-es,
We en-treat you, Lord.
That there may be peace to your Church and to/the whole world,
We en-treat you, Lord.

That we may de-part this life in your faith and fear,
and be freed from con-dem-na-tion
be-fore the great judg-ment seat of Christ,
We en-treat you, Lord.

That we may be bound to-gether by your Ho-ly Spi-rit
in the com-mun-ion of Barna-bas and all your saints,
en-trust-ing one an-other and all our life to Christ,
We en-treat you, Lord.

Collect of the Day

O God, the King of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven: Do not leave us comfortless, but send us your Holy Spirit to strengthen us, and exalt us to that place where our Savior Christ has gone before; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting.

Amen.

A Collect for Fridays

Lord Jesus Christ, by your death you took away the sting of death: Grant to us your servants so to follow in faith where you have led the way, that we may at length fall asleep peacefully in you and wake up in your likeness; for your tender mercies' sake.

Amen.

Prayer for Mission

O God and Father of all, whom the whole heavens adore: Let the whole earth also worship you, all nations obey you, all tongues confess and bless you, and men and women everywhere love you and serve you in peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Al-might-God,
you have given us grace at this time
with one ac-cord
to make our common suppli-ca-tion to you;

and you have prom-ised
through your well-be-lov-ed Son
that when two or three are gathered in his Name
you will be in/the midst of them:

Ful-fill now, O Lord, our de-sires and pe-ti-tions
as may be best for us;
granting us in this world knowl-edge of your truth,
and in/the age to come life ever-lasting. A-men.

LEVAS2 (183) God will take care of you

Recordings:   PIANO    PARTS    SOPRANO    ALTO    TENOR    BASS

Be not dismayed whate’er betide,
God will take care of you;
Beneath His wings of love abide,
God will take care of you.

Refrain:
God will take care of you,
Through ev’ry day,
O’er all the way;
He will take care of you,
God will take care of you.
Through days of toil when heart doth fail,
God will take care of you;
When dangers fierce your path assail,
God will take care of you. [Refrain]
All you may need He will provide,
God will take care of you;
Nothing you ask will be denied,
God will take care of you. [Refrain]
No matter what may be the test,
God will take care of you;
Lean, weary one, upon His breast,
God will take care of you. [Refrain]
