Grace to you and peace from God our Fa-ther
and from the Lord Je-sus Christ.
Wor-ship the Lord in the beau-ty of his ho-li-ness;
let the whole earth trem-ble be-fore him.

Let my prayer be set forth in your sight as in-cense,
the lift-ing up of my hands as the eve-ning sac-ri-fice.
I will bless the Lord who gives me coun-sel;
my heart teach-es me, night af-ter night.

I have set the Lord al-ways be-fore me;
be-cause he is at my right hand, I shall not fall.
O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.

Glo-ry to the Fath-er, and to the Son,
and to the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in the be-gin-ning, is now,
and will be for ev-er. A-men.

Wednesday - O Gracious Light

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

O gra-cious light, pure bright-ness
of the ev-er-liv-ing Fath-er in heav-en,
O Je-sus Christ, ho-ly and bless-ed!
we sing your prais-es, O God!

Now as we come to the set-ting of the sun,
and our eyes be-hold the ves-per light,
we sing your prais-es, O God:
Fath-er, Son, and Ho-ly Spi-rit.

You are wor-thy at all times
to be praised by hap-py voic-es,
O Son of God, O Giv-er of life,
and to be glo-ri-fied through all the world.

Psalms

Psalm 49

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Re-mem-ber your word to your serv-ant,
for you have giv-en me hope.
For Sol-o-mon. O God, grant the king
the a-bil-i-ty to make just de-ci-sions!

Grant the king’s son
the a-bil-i-ty to make fair de-ci-sions!
Then he will judge your peo-ple fair-ly,
and your op-pressed ones eq-ui-ta-bly.

The moun-tains will bring news of peace to the peo-ple,
and the hills will an-nounce jus-tice.
He will de-fend the op-pressed a-mong the peo-ple;
he will de-liv-er the chil-dren of the poor and crush the op-pres-sor.

Peo-ple will fear you as long as the sun and moon re-main in the sky,
for gen-er-a-tion af-ter gen-er-a-tion.
He will de-scend like rain on the mown grass,
like show-ers that drench the earth.

Dur-ing his days the god-ly will flour-ish;
peace will pre-vail as long as the moon re-mains in the sky.
May he rule from sea to sea,
and from the Eu-phra-tes Riv-er to the ends of the earth!

Be-fore him the coast-lands will bow down,
and his en-e-mies will lick the dust.
The kings of Tar-shish and the coast-lands will of-fer gifts;
the kings of She-bah and Se-bah will bring trib-ute.

All kings will bow down to him;
all na-tions will serve him.
For he will res-cue the need-y when they cry out for help,
and the op-pressed who have no de-fend-er.

He will take pit-y on the poor and need-y;
the lives of the need-y he will save.
From harm and vio-lence he will de-fend them;
he will val-ue their lives.

May he live! May they of-fer him gold from She-bah!
May they con-tin-ual-ly pray for him!
May they pro-nounce bles-sings on him all day long!
May there be an a-bun-dance of grain in the earth;

On the tops of the moun-tains may it sway!
May its fruit trees flour-ish like the for-ests of Leb-a-non!
May its crops be as a-bun-dant as the grass of the earth!
May his fame and glo-ry en-dure!

May his dy-nas-ty last as long as the sun re-mains in the sky!
May they use his name when they com-pose their bles-sings!
May all na-tions con-sid-er him to be fa-vored by God!
The Lord God, the God of Is-ra-el, de-serves praise!

He a-lone ac-com-plish-es a-maz-ing things!
His glo-ri-ous name de-serves praise for-ev-er-more!
May his ma-jes-tic splen-dor fill the whole earth!
We a-gree! We a-gree! A-men!

Glo-ry to the Fath-er, and to the Son,
and to the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in the be-gin-ning, is now,
and will be for ev-er. A-men.

Readings

A reading from Acts 14:19-28

But Jews came from Antioch and Iconium, and after winning the crowds over, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, presuming him to be dead. But after the disciples had surrounded him, he got up and went back into the city. On the next day he left with Barnabas for Derbe.

After they had proclaimed the good news in that city and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, to Iconium, and to Antioch. They strengthened the souls of the disciples and encouraged them to continue in the faith, saying, “We must enter the kingdom of God through many persecutions.” When they had appointed elders for them in the various churches, with prayer and fasting they entrusted them to the protection of the Lord in whom they had believed. Then they passed through Pisidia and came into Pamphylia, and when they had spoken the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia. From there they sailed back to Antioch, where they had been commended to the grace of God for the work they had now completed. When they arrived and gathered the church together, they reported all the things God had done with them, and that he had opened a door of faith for the Gentiles. So they spent considerable time with the disciples.

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Wednesday - Glory to God

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Glo-ry to God in the high-est,
and peace to his peo-ple on earth.
Lord God, heav-en-ly King,
al-might-y God and Fath-er,

We wor-ship you, we give you thanks,
We praise you for your glo-ry.
Lord Je-sus Christ, on-ly Son of the Fath-er,
Lord God, O Lamb of God,

You take a-way the sin of the world:
now have mer-cy on us;
you are seat-ed at the right hand of the Fath-er:
now re-ceive our pray-er.

For you a-lone are the Ho-ly One,
You a-lone are the Lord,
You a-lone are the Most High, Je-sus Christ,
with the Ho-ly Spi-rit, in the glo-ry of God the Fath-er.

A reading from John 11:1-16

Now a certain man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village where Mary and her sister Martha lived. (Now it was Mary who anointed the Lord with perfumed oil and wiped his feet dry with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.) So the sisters sent a message to Jesus, “Lord, look, the one you love is sick.” When Jesus heard this, he said, “This sickness will not lead to death, but to God’s glory, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it.” (Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.)

So when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he remained in the place where he was for two more days. Then after this, he said to his disciples, “Let us go to Judea again.” The disciples replied, “Rabbi, the Jewish leaders were just now trying to stone you to death! Are you going there again?” Jesus replied, “Are there not twelve hours in a day? If anyone walks around in the daytime, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. But if anyone walks around at night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.”

After he said this, he added, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep. But I am going there to awaken him.” Then the disciples replied, “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.” (Now Jesus had been talking about his death, but they thought he had been talking about real sleep.)

Then Jesus told them plainly, “Lazarus has died, and I am glad for your sake that I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.” So Thomas (called Didymus ) said to his fellow disciples, “Let us go too, so that we may die with him.”

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Wednesday - Second Song of Isaiah

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Seek the Lord while he wills to be found;
call up-on him when he draws near.
Let the wick-ed for-sake their ways
and the e-vil ones their thoughts;

And let them turn to the Lord,
and he will have com-pas-sion,
Let then re-turn to our God,
for he will rich-ly par-don.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
nor your ways my ways, says the Lord.
For as the heav-ens are high-er than the earth,
so are my ways high-er than your ways,

and my thoughts than your thoughts.
For as rain and snow fall from the heav-ens
and re-turns not a-gain,
but wat-ers the whole earth,

Bring-ing forth life
and giv-ing a-bun-dant growth
And seed for re-plan-ting
and bread and fruit for eat-ing,

So is my word that goes forth from my mouth;
it will not re-turn to me emp-ty;
But it will ac-com-plish that which I have pur-posed,
and pros-per in that for which I sent it.

Glo-ry to the Fath-er, and to the Son,
and to the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in the be-gin-ning, is now,
and will be for ev-er. A-men.

Prayers

Wednesday Creed

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

We be-lieve in God, the Fath-er al-might-y,
cre-a-tor of heav-en and earth.
We be-lieve in Je-sus Christ,
his on-ly son, our Lord.

He was con-ceived by the pow-er of the Ho-ly Spi-rit
and born of the Vir-gin Ma-ry.
He suf-fered un-der Pon-tius Pi-late,
was cru-ci-fied, died, and was bur-ied.

He de-scend-ed to the dead.
On the third day he rose a-gain.
He a-scend-ed into heav-en,
and is seat-ed at the right hand of the Fath-er.

He will come a-gain
to judge the liv-ing and the dead.
We be-lieve in the Ho-ly Spi-rit,
the ho-ly cath-o-lic Church,

the com-mun-ion of saints,
the for-give-ness of sins,
the res-ur-rec-tion of the bod-y,
and the life ev-er-last-ing. A-men.

Wednesday - Our Father

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

The Lord be with you.
And al-so with you. A-men.
Our Fath-er in heav-en,
hal-low-ed be your Name.

Your king-dom come,
your will be done, on earth as in heav-en.
Give us to-day our dai-ly bread.
For-give us our sins as we for-give those who sin a-gainst us.

Save us from the time of tri-al,
and de-liv-er us from e-vil.
For the king-dom, the pow-er, and the glo-ry are yours,
now and for ev-er. A-men.

Wednesday - Evening Suffrages B

That this eve-ning may be ho-ly, good, and peace-ful,
We en-treat you, O Lord.
That your ho-ly an-gels may lead us in paths of peace and good-will,
We en-treat you, O Lord.

That we may be par-doned and for-giv-en for our sins and of-fenses,
We en-treat you, O Lord.
That there may be peace to your Church and to the whole world,
We en-treat you, O Lord.

That we may de-part this life in your faith and fear,
and be freed from con-dem-na-tion
be-fore the great judg-ment seat of Christ,
We en-treat you, O Lord.

That we may be bound to-geth-er by your Ho-ly Spi-rit
in the com-mun-ion of Bar-na-bas and all your saints,
en-trust-ing one an-oth-er and all our life to Christ,
We en-treat you, O Lord.

Collect of the Day

O God, the King of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven: Do not leave us comfortless, but send us your Holy Spirit to strengthen us, and exalt us to that place where our Savior Christ has gone before; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting.

Amen.

A Collect for Protection

O God, the life of all who live, the light of the faithful, the strength of those who labor, and the repose of the dead: We thank you for the blessings of the day that is past, and humbly ask for your protection through the coming night. Bring us in safety to the morning hours; through him who died and rose again for us, your Son our Savior Jesus Christ.

Amen.

Prayer for Mission

O God and Father of all, whom the whole heavens adore: Let the whole earth also worship you, all nations obey you, all tongues confess and bless you, and men and women everywhere love you and serve you in peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

A Prayer of Saint Chrysostom

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Al-might-y God,
you have giv-en us grace at this time
with one ac-cord
to make our com-mon sup-pli-ca-tion to you;

and you have prom-ised
through your well-be-lov-ed Son
that when two or three are ga-thered to-geth-er in his Name
you will be in the midst of them:

Ful-fill now, O Lord, our de-sires and pe-ti-tions
as may be best for us;
grant-ing us in this world knowl-edge of your truth,
and in the age to come life ev-er-last-ing. A-men.
