Confession
Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you
in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done,
and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will,
and walk in your ways,
to the glory of your Name. Amen.
Almighty God, have mercy on us,
forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ,
strengthen us in all goodness,
and by the power of the Holy Spirit,
keep us in eternal life.Amen.
we confess that we have sinned against you
in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done,
and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart;

Opening Hymn: LEVAS2 (L176) An Evening Prayer
1 If I have wounded any soul today,
If I have caused one foot to go astray,
If I have walked in my own willful way,
Dear Lord, forgive!2 If I have uttered idle words or vain,
If I have turned aside from want or pain,
Lest I offend some other through the strain,
Dear Lord, forgive!3 If I have been perverse, or hard, or cold,
If I have longed for shelter in the fold,
When thou hast given me some fort to hold,
Dear Lord, forgive!4 Forgive the sins I have confessed to thee;
Forgive the secret sins I do not see;
O guide me, love me, and my keeper be.
Dear Lord, Amen.
1 If I have wounded any soul today,
If I have caused one foot to go astray,
If I have walked in my own willful way,
Dear Lord, forgive!
If I have turned aside from want or pain,
Lest I offend some other through the strain,
Dear Lord, forgive!
If I have longed for shelter in the fold,
When thou hast given me some fort to hold,
Dear Lord, forgive!
Forgive the secret sins I do not see;
O guide me, love me, and my keeper be.
Dear Lord, Amen.
The Invitatory and Psalter
V: O God, make speed | to save | us.
R: O Lord, | make haste | to help | us.
R: O Lord, | make haste | to help | us.
Glo-ry to the Fath-er, and to the Son,
and to the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in the be-gin-ning, is now,
and will be for ev-er. A-men.
O Jesus Christ, holy and blessed!
Now as we come to the setting of the sun,
and our eyes behold the vesper light,
You are worthy at all times
O Son of God, O Giver of life,
and to be glorified through all the worlds.

My God, my God,
why have you a-ban-doned me?
I groan in prayer,
but help seems far a-way.
My God, I cry out dur-ing the day,
but you do not an-swer,
and dur-ing the night
my prayers do not let up.
You are ho-ly;
you re-ceive the prais-es of Is-ra-el.
In you our an-ces-tors trust-ed;
they trust-ed in you and you res-cued them.
To you they cried out, and they were saved;
in you they trust-ed and they were not dis-ap-point-ed.
But I am a worm, not a man;
peo-ple in-sult me and de-spise me.
All who see me taunt me;
they mock me and shake their heads.
They say, Com-mit your-self to the Lord!
Let the Lord res-cue him!
Let the Lord de-liv-er him,
for he de-lights in him.
Yes, you are the one
who brought me out from the womb
and made me feel se-cure
set up-on my moth-er's breast.
I have been de-pend-ent on you since birth;
from the time I came out of my moth-er's womb
you have been my God.
Do not re-main far a-way from me,
for trou-ble is near
and I have no one to help me.
Man-y bulls sur-round me;
pow-er-ful bulls of Ba-shan hem me in.
They o-pen their mouths to de-vour me
like a roar-ing li-on that rips its prey.
My strength drains a-way like wat-er;
all my bones are dis-lo-cat-ed;
my heart is like wax;
it melts a-way in-side me.
The roof of my mouth
is as dry as a piece of pot-ter-y;
my tongue sticks to my gums.
You set me in the dust of death.
Yes, wild dogs sur-round me
a gang of e-vil men crowd a-round me;
like a li-on
they pin my hands and feet.
I can count all my bones;
my en-e-mies are gloat-ing o-ver me in tri-umph.
They are di-vid-ing up my clothes a-mong them;
they are roll-ing dice for my gar-ments.
But you, O Lord,
do not re-main far a-way!
You are my source of strength!
Hur-ry and help me, O Lord!
De-liv-er me from the sword!
Save my life from the claws of the wild dogs!
Res-cue me from the mouth of the li-on,
and from the horns of the wild ox-en!
You have an-swered me!
I will de-clare your name
to all my coun-try-men!
In the mid-dle of the as-sem-bly
I will praise you!
You loy-al fol-low-ers of the Lord, praise him!
All you de-scend-ants of Ja-cob, hon-or him!
All you de-scend-ants of Is-ra-el, stand in awe of him!
For he did not de-spise
or de-test the suf-fering of the op-pressed;
he did not ig-nore him;
when he cried out to him, he re-spond-ed.
You are the rea-son, O Lord,
I of-fer praise in the great as-sem-bly;
I will ful-fill my prom-is-es
be-fore the Lord's loy-al fol-low-ers.
Let the op-pressed eat
and let them be sat-is-fied!
Let those who seek his help
praise the Lord for-ev-er!
May you live for-ev-er!
Let all the peo-ple of the earth
ac-knowl-edge the Lord and turn to him!
Let all the na-tions wor-ship you!
For the Lord is king
and rules o-ver the na-tions.
All of the thriv-ing peo-ple of the earth
will join the cel-e-bra-tion and wor-ship;
all those who are de-scend-ing into the grave
will bow down be-fore him,
in-clud-ing those who can-not pre-serve their lives.
A whole gen-er-a-tion will serve him;
They will tell the next gen-er-a-tion a-bout the Lord.
They will tell a-bout his sav-ing deeds;
they will tell a fu-ture gen-er-a-tion
what he has ac-com-plished.
Glo-ry to the Fath-er, and to the Son,
and to the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in the be-gin-ning, is now,
and will be for ev-er. A-men.
Readings
A reading from Acts 10:34-48
Then Peter started speaking: “I now truly understand that God does not show favoritism in dealing with people, but in every nation the person who fears him and does what is right is welcomed before him. You know the message he sent to the people of Israel, proclaiming the good news of peace through Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all) – you know what happened throughout Judea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism that John announced: with respect to Jesus from Nazareth, that God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, because God was with him. We are witnesses of all the things he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a tree, but God raised him up on the third day and caused him to be seen, not by all the people, but by us, the witnesses God had already chosen, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He commanded us to preach to the people and to warn them that he is the one appointed by God as judge of the living and the dead. About him all the prophets testify, that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”
While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all those who heard the message. The circumcised believers who had accompanied Peter were greatly astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles, for they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Then Peter said, “No one can withhold the water for these people to be baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, can he?” So he gave orders to have them baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay for several days.

Bless-ed be the Lord, the God of Is-ra-el;
he has come to his peo-ple and set them free.
He has raised up for us a might-y sav-ior,
born of the house of his serv-ant Da-vid.
Through his ho-ly proph-ets he prom-ised of old,
that he would save us from our en-e-mies,
from the hands of all who hate us.
He prom-ised to show mer-cy to our fath-ers
and to re-mem-ber his ho-ly cov-e-nant.
This was the oath he swore to our fath-er A-bra-ham,
to set us free from the hands of our en-e-mies,
Free to wor-ship him with-out fear,
ho-ly and right-eous in his sight
all the days of our life.
And you, my child, shall be called
the proph-et of the Most High,
for you will go be-fore the Lord to pre-pare his way,
To give his peo-ple knowl-edge of sal-va-tion
by the for-give-ness of their sins.
In the ten-der com-pas-sion of our God
the dawn from on high shall break up-on us,
To shine on those who dwell in dark-ness
and the shad-ow of death,
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Glo-ry to the Fath-er, and to the Son,
and to the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in the be-gin-ning, is now,
and will be for ev-er. A-men.
A reading from John 7:37-52
On the last day of the feast, the greatest day, Jesus stood up and shouted out, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me, and let the one who believes in me drink. Just as the scripture says, ‘From within him will flow rivers of living water.’” (Now he said this about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were going to receive, for the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.)
When they heard these words, some of the crowd began to say, “This really is the Prophet!” Others said, “This is the Christ!” But still others said, “No, for the Christ doesn’t come from Galilee, does he? Don’t the scriptures say that the Christ is a descendant of David and comes from Bethlehem, the village where David lived?” So there was a division in the crowd because of Jesus. Some of them were wanting to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him.
Then the officers returned to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, “Why didn’t you bring him back with you?” The officers replied, “No one ever spoke like this man!” Then the Pharisees answered, “You haven’t been deceived too, have you? None of the members of the ruling council or the Pharisees have believed in him, have they? But this rabble who do not know the law are accursed!”
Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus before and who was one of the rulers, said, “Our law doesn’t condemn a man unless it first hears from him and learns what he is doing, does it?” They replied, “You aren’t from Galilee too, are you? Investigate carefully and you will see that no prophet comes from Galilee!”
Here ends the reading.

Splen-dor and ho-nor and king-ly pow-er
are yours by right, O Lord our God,
For you cre-at-ed eve-ry-thing that is,
and by your will they were cre-at-ed and have their be-ing;
And yours by right, O Lamb that was slain,
for with your blood you have re-deemed for God,
From eve-ry fam-i-ly, lan-guage, peo-ple, and na-tion,
a king-dom of priests to serve our God.
And so, to him who sits up-on the throne,
and to Je-sus Christ the Lamb,
Be wor-ship and praise, do-min-ion and splen-dor,
for ev-er and for ev-er-more.
Glo-ry to the Fath-er, and to the Son,
and to the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in the be-gin-ning, is now,

We be-lieve in God, the Fath-er al-might-y,
cre-a-tor of heav-en and earth.
We be-lieve in Je-sus Christ,
his on-ly son, our Lord.
He was con-ceived by the pow-er of the Ho-ly Spi-rit
and born of the Vir-gin Ma-ry.
He suf-fered un-der Pon-tius Pi-late,
was cru-ci-fied, died, and was bur-ied.
He de-scend-ed to the dead.
On the third day he rose a-gain.
He a-scend-ed into heav-en,
and is seat-ed at the right hand of the Fath-er.
He will come a-gain
to judge the liv-ing and the dead.
We be-lieve in the Ho-ly Spi-rit,
the ho-ly cath-o-lic Church,
the com-mun-ion of saints,
the for-give-ness of sins,
the res-ur-rec-tion of the bod-y,
and the life ev-er-last-ing. A-men.

Give us to-day our dai-ly bread.
For-give us our sins as we for-give those who sin a-gainst us.
Save us from the time of tri-al,
and de-liv-er us from e-vil.
For the king-dom, the pow-er, and the glo-ry are yours,
now and for ev-er. A-men.

Show us your mer-cy, O Lord;
And grant us your sal-va-tion.
Clothe your min-is-ters with right-eous-ness;
Let your peo-ple sing with joy.
Give peace, O Lord, in all the world;
For on-ly in you can we live in safe-ty.
Lord, keep this na-tion un-der your care;
And guide us in the way of jus-tice and truth.
Let your way be known up-on earth;
Your sav-ing health a-mong all na-tions.
Let not the need-y, O Lord, be for-got-ten;
Nor the hope of the poor be tak-en a-way.
Cre-ate in us clean hearts, O God;
And sus-tain us by your Ho-ly Spi-rit.
Show us your mer-cy, O Lord;
And grant us your sal-va-tion.
Collect of the Day
O God, the King of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven: Do not leave us comfortless, but send us your Holy Spirit to strengthen us, and exalt us to that place where our Savior Christ has gone before; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting.
Amen.
A Collect for Fridays
Lord Jesus Christ, by your death you took away the sting of death: Grant to us your servants so to follow in faith where you have led the way, that we may at length fall asleep peacefully in you and wake up in your likeness; for your tender mercies' sake.
Amen.
Prayer for Mission
O God and Father of all, whom the whole heavens adore: Let the whole earth also worship you, all nations obey you, all tongues confess and bless you, and men and women everywhere love you and serve you in peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
