Pentecost - Tuesday Invitation
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto AllThe Lord is in his ho-ly tem-ple;
let all the earth keep si-lence be-fore him
I was glad when they said to me,
Let us go to the house of the Lord.
Let the words of my mouth
and the med-i-ta-tion of my heart
be ac-cep-ta-ble in your sight, O Lord,
my strength and my re-deem-er.
Thus says the high and loft-y One
who in-hab-its e-ter-ni-ty,
whose name is Ho-ly,
I dwell in the high and ho-ly place
Send out your light
and your truth, that they may lead me,
and bring me to your ho-ly hill
and to your dwel-ling place.
Give thanks to the Lord, and call up-on his Name;
make known his deeds a-mong the peo-ples.
Lord, o-pen our lips.
And our mouth shall pro-claim your praise.
Glo-ry to the Fath-er, and to the Son,
and to the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in the be-gin-ning, is now,
and will be for ev-er. A-men.
Tuesday - Venite
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto AllCome, let us sing to the Lord;
let us shout for joy to the Rock of our sal-va-tion.
Let us come be-fore his pres-ence with thanks-giv-ing
and raise a loud shout to him with psalms.
For the Lord is a great God,
and a great King a-bove all gods.
In his hand are the cav-erns of the earth,
and the heights of the hills are his al-so.
The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands have mold-ed the dry land.
Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee,
and kneel be-fore the Lord our Mak-er.
For he is our God,
and we are the peo-ple of his pas-ture
and the sheep of his hand.
Oh, that to-day you would heark-en to his voice!
Psalm 97
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto AllThe Lord reigns! Let the earth be hap-py!
Let the man-y coast-lands re-joice!
Dark clouds sur-round him;
eq-ui-ty and jus-tice are the foun-da-tion of his throne.
Fire goes be-fore him;
on eve-ry side it burns up his en-e-mies.
His light-ning bolts light up the world;
the earth sees and trem-bles.
The moun-tains melt like wax be-fore the Lord,
be-fore the Lord of the whole earth.
The sky de-clares his jus-tice,
and all the na-tions see his splen-dor.
All who wor-ship i-dols are a-shamed,
those who boast a-bout worth-less i-dols.
All the gods bow down be-fore him.
Zi-on hears and re-joic-es,
the towns of Ju-dah are hap-py,
be-cause of your judg-ment, O Lord.
For you, O Lord,
are the Most High o-ver the whole earth;
You are el-e-vat-ed high a-bove all gods.
You who love the Lord, hate e-vil!
He pro-tects the lives of his faith-ful fo-low-ers;
he de-liv-ers them from the pow-er of the wick-ed.
The god-ly bask in the light;
the mor-al-ly up-right ex-pe-ri-ence joy.
You god-ly one, re-joice in the Lord!
Give thanks to his ho-ly name.
Glo-ry to the Fath-er, and to the Son,
and to the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in the be-gin-ning, is now,
and will be for ev-er. A-men.
Psalm 99
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto AllThe Lord reigns! The na-tions trem-ble.
He sits en-throned a-bove the cher-u-bim; the earth shakes.
The Lord is el-e-vat-ed in Zi-on;
he is ex-alt-ed o-ver all the na-tions.
Let them praise your great and awe-some name!
He is ho-ly! The king is strong; he loves jus-tice.
You en-sure that le-gal de-ci-sions will be made fair-ly;
you pro-mote jus-tice and eq-ui-ty in Ja-cob.
Praise the Lord our God!
Wor-ship be-fore his foot-stool! He is ho-ly!
Mo-ses and Aa-ron were a-mong his priests;
Sa-mu-el was one of those who prayed to him.
They prayed to the Lord and he an-swered them.
He spoke to them from a pil-lar of cloud;
they o-beyed his reg-u-la-tions and the or-di-nanc-es he gave them.
O Lord our God, you an-swered them.
They found you to be a for-giv-ing God,
but al-so one who pun-ished their sin-ful deeds.
Praise the Lord our God!
Wor-ship on his ho-ly hill, for the Lord our God is ho-ly!
Glo-ry to the Fath-er, and to the Son,
and to the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in the be-gin-ning, is now,
and will be for ev-er. A-men.
Psalm 100
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto AllShout out prais-es to the Lord, all the earth!
Wor-ship the Lord with joy!
En-ter his pres-ence with joy-ful sing-ing!
Ac-knowl-edge that the Lord is God!
He made us and we be-long to him;
we are his peo-ple, the sheep of his pas-ture.
En-ter his gates with praise,
and his courts with thanks-giv-ing!
Give him thanks! Praise his name!
For the Lord is good. His loy-al love en-dures,
and he is faith-ful
through eve-ry gen-er-a-tion.
Glo-ry to the Fath-er, and to the Son,
and to the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in the be-gin-ning, is now,
and will be for ev-er. A-men.
A reading from Numbers 16:20-35
The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron: “Separate yourselves from among this community, that I may consume them in an instant. ” Then they threw themselves down with their faces to the ground and said, “O God, the God of the spirits of all people, will you be angry with the whole community when only one man sins?”
So the Lord spoke to Moses: “Tell the community: ‘Get away from around the homes of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. ’” Then Moses got up and went to Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel went after him. And he said to the community, “Move away from the tents of these wicked men, and do not touch anything they have, lest you be destroyed because of all their sins. ” So they got away from the homes of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram on every side, and Dathan and Abiram came out and stationed themselves in the entrances of their tents with their wives, their children, and their toddlers. Then Moses said, “This is how you will know that the Lord has sent me to do all these works, for I have not done them of my own will. If these men die a natural death, or if they share the fate of all men, then the Lord has not sent me. But if the Lord does something entirely new, and the earth opens its mouth and swallows them up along with all that they have, and they go down alive to the grave, then you will know that these men have despised the Lord.
When he had finished speaking all these words, the ground that was under them split open,and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them, along with their households, and all Korah’s men, and all their goods. They and all that they had went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed over them. So they perished from among the community. All the Israelites who were around them fled at their cry, for they said, “What if the earth swallows us too?”Then a fire went out from the Lord and devoured the 250 men who offered incense.
Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!
Tuesday - Song of Praise
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto AllGlo-ry to you, Lord God of our fath-ers;
you are wor-thy of praise; glo-ry to you.
Glo-ry to you for the ra-di-ance of your ho-ly Name;
we will praise you and high-ly ex-alt you for ev-er.
Glo-ry to you in the splen-dor of your tem-ple;
on the throne of your maj-es-ty, glo-ry to you.
Glo-ry to you, seat-ed be-tween the Cher-u-bim;
we will praise you and high-ly ex-alt you for ev-er.
Glo-ry to you, be-hold-ing the depths;
in the high vault of heav-en, glo-ry to you.
Glo-ry to you, Fath-er, Son, and Ho-ly Spi-rit;
we will praise you and high-ly ex-alt you for ev-er.
A reading from Romans 4:1-12
What then shall we say that Abraham, our ancestor according to the flesh, has discovered regarding this matter?For if Abraham was declared righteous by works, he has something to boast about – but not before God. For what does the scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness. ” Now to the one who works, his pay is not credited due to grace but due to obligation. But to the one who does not work, but believes in the one who declares the ungodly righteous, his faith is credited as righteousness.
So even David himself speaks regarding the blessedness of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:
“Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered;
blessed is the one against whom the Lord will never count sin. ”
Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!
Tuesday - Song to the Lamb
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto AllSplen-dor and ho-nor and king-ly pow-er
are yours by right, O Lord our God,
For you cre-at-ed eve-ry-thing that is,
and by your will they were cre-at-ed and have their be-ing;
And yours by right, O Lamb that was slain,
for with your blood you have re-deemed for God,
From eve-ry fam-i-ly, lan-guage, peo-ple, and na-tion,
a king-dom of priests to serve our God.
And so, to him who sits up-on the throne,
and to Je-sus Christ the Lamb,
Be wor-ship and praise, do-min-ion and splen-dor,
for ev-er and for ev-er-more.
Glo-ry to the Fath-er, and to the Son,
and to the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in the be-gin-ning, is now,
and will be for ev-er. A-men.
Tuesday Creed
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto All
We be-lieve in God, the Fath-er al-might-y,
cre-a-tor of heav-en and earth.
We be-lieve in Je-sus Christ,
his on-ly son, our Lord.
He was con-ceived by the pow-er of the Ho-ly Spi-rit
and born of the Vir-gin Ma-ry.
He suf-fered un-der Pon-tius Pi-late,
was cru-ci-fied, died, and was bur-ied.
He de-scend-ed to the dead.
On the third day he rose a-gain.
He a-scend-ed into heav-en,
and is seat-ed at the right hand of the Fath-er.
He will come a-gain
to judge the liv-ing and the dead.
We be-lieve in the Ho-ly Spi-rit,
the ho-ly cath-o-lic Church,
the com-mun-ion of saints,
the for-give-ness of sins,
the res-ur-rec-tion of the bod-y,
and the life ev-er-last-ing. A-men.
Tuesday - Our Father
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto AllThe Lord be with you.
And al-so with you. A-men.
Our Fath-er in heav-en,
hal-low-ed be your Name.
Your king-dom come,
your will be done, on earth as in heav-en.
Give us to-day our dai-ly bread.
For-give us our sins as we for-give those who sin a-gainst us.
Save us from the time of tri-al,
and de-liv-er us from e-vil.
For the king-dom, the pow-er, and the glo-ry are yours,
now and for ev-er. A-men.
Tuesday - Suffrages A
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto AllShow us your mer-cy, O Lord;
And grant us your sal-va-tion.
Clothe your min-is-ters with right-eous-ness;
Let your peo-ple sing with joy.
Give peace, O Lord, in all the world;
For on-ly in you can we live in safe-ty.
Lord, keep this na-tion un-der your care;
And guide us in the way of jus-tice and truth.
Let your way be known up-on earth;
Your sav-ing health a-mong all na-tions.
Let not the need-y, O Lord, be for-got-ten;
Nor the hope of the poor be tak-en a-way.
Cre-ate in us clean hearts, O God;
And sus-tain us with your Ho-ly Spi-rit.
Show us your mer-cy, O Lord;
And grant us your sal-va-tion.
Almighty God, whose Son Jesus Christ in his earthly life shared our toil and hallowed our labor: Be present with your people where they work; make those who carry on the industries and commerce of this land responsive to your will; and give to us all a pride in what we do, and a just return for our labor; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Amen.
A Collect for Peace
O God, the author of peace and lover of concord, to know you is eternal life and to serve you is perfect freedom: Defend us, your humble servants, in all assaults of our enemies; that we, surely trusting in your defense, may not fear the power of any adversaries; through the might of Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
A Prayer for Mission
Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace: So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you; for the honor of your Name.
Amen.
General Thanksgiving
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto AllAl-might-y God, Fa-ther of all mer-cies,
we your un-wor-thy serv-ants give you hum-ble thanks
for all your good-ness and lov-ing kind-ness
to us and to all whom you have made.
We bless you for our cre-a-tion, pres-er-va-tion,
and all the bles-sings of this life;
but a-bove all for your im-meas-ur-a-ble love
in the re-demp-tion of the world by our Lord Je-sus Christ;
for the means of grace, and for the hope of glo-ry.
And, we pray, give us such an a-ware-ness of your mer-cy,
that with tru-ly thank-ful hearts
we may show forth your praise,
not on-ly with our lips, but in our lives,
by giv-ing up our selves to your ser-vice,
and by walk-ing be-fore you
in ho-li-ness and right-eous-ness all our days;
through Je-sus Christ our Lord,
to whom, with you and the Ho-ly Spi-rit,
be ho-nor and glo-ry
through-out all the ag-es. A-men.
Tuesday - Closing Blessings
Tenor Soprano Response Cantor Bass Alto AllThe grace of our Lord Je-sus Christ,
and the love of God our Fath-er,
and the fel-low-ship of the Ho-ly Spi-rit,
be with us all ev-er-more. A-men.
Thanks be to God!
May the God of hope fill us
with all joy and peace in be-liev-ing
through the pow-er of the Ho-ly Spi-rit. A-men.
