Invitation

Pentecost - Thursday Invitation

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     All

The Lord is in his ho-ly tem-ple;
let all the earth keep si-lence be-fore him
I was glad when they said to me,
Let us go to the house of the Lord.

Let the words of my mouth
and the med-i-ta-tion of my heart
be ac-cep-ta-ble in your sight, O Lord,
my strength and my re-deem-er.

Thus says the high and loft-y One
who in-hab-its e-ter-ni-ty,
whose name is Ho-ly,
I dwell in the high and ho-ly place

Send out your light
and your truth, that they may lead me,
and bring me to your ho-ly hill
and to your dwel-ling place.

Give thanks to the Lord, and call up-on his Name;
make known his deeds a-mong the peo-ples.
Lord, o-pen our lips.
And our mouth shall pro-claim your praise.

Glo-ry to the Fath-er, and to the Son,
and to the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in the be-gin-ning, is now,
and will be for ev-er. A-men.

Thursday - Jubilate

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Be joy-ful in the Lord, all you lands;
serve the Lord with glad-ness
and come be-fore his pres-ence with a song.
Know this: The Lord him-self is God;

He him-self has made us, and we are his;
we are his peo-ple and the sheep of his pas-ture.
En-ter his gates with thanks-giv-ing;
go into his courts with praise;

Give thanks to him and call up-on his Name.
Be-cause the Lord is good;
his mer-cy is ev-er last-ing;
and his faith-ful-ness en-dures from age to age.

Psalms

Psalm 131

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     All

O Lord, my heart is not proud,
nor do I have a haugh-ty look.
I do not have great as-pi-ra-tions,
or con-cern my-self with things that are be-yond me.

In-deed, I have calmed and quiet-ed my-self
like a weaned child with its moth-er;
I am con-tent like a young child.
O Is-ra-el-er!

Glo-ry to the Fath-er, and to the Son,
and to the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in the be-gin-ning, is now,
and will be for ev-er. A-men.

Psalm 132

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     All

O Lord, for Da-vid's sake
re-mem-ber all his stren-u-ous ef-fort,
and how he made a vow to the Lord,
and swore an oath to the Pow-er-ful One of Ja-cob.

He said, I will not en-ter my own home,
or get into my own bed.
I will not al-low my eyes to sleep,
or my eye-lids to slum-ber,

un-til I find a place for the Lord,
a fine dwell-ing place for the Pow-er-ful One of Ja-cob.
Look, we heard a-bout it in E-phra-thah,
we found it in the ter-ri-to-ry of Jaar.

Let us go to his dwell-ing place!
Let us wor-ship be-fore his foot-stool!
A-scend, O Lord, to your rest-ing place,
you and the ark of your strength!

May your priests be clothed with in-teg-ri-ty!
May your loy-al fol-low-ers shout for joy!
For the sake of Da-vid, your serv-ant,
do not re-ject your cho-sen king!

The Lord made a re-li-a-ble prom-ise to Da-vid;
he will not go back on his word.
He said, I will place
one of your de-scend-ants on your throne.

If your sons keep my cov-e-nant
and the rules I teach them,
their sons will al-so] sit on your throne for-ev-er.
Cer-tain-ly the Lord has cho-sen Zi-on;

he de-cid-ed to make it his home.
He said, This will be my rest-ing place for-ev-er;
I will live here, for I have cho-sen it.
I will a-bun-dant-ly sup-ply what she needs;

I will give her poor all the food they need.
I will pro-tect her priests,
and her god-ly peo-ple will shout ex-u-ber-ant-ly.
There I will make Da-vid strong;

I have de-ter-mined
that my cho-sen kings dy-nas-ty will con-tin-ue.
I will hu-mil-i-ate his en-e-mies,
and his crown will ev-er shine.

Glo-ry to the Fath-er, and to the Son,
and to the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in the be-gin-ning, is now,
and will be for ev-er. A-men.

Psalm 133

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     All

Look! How good and how pleas-ant it is
when broth-ers tru-ly live in u-ni-ty!
It is like fine oil poured on the head
which flows down the beard, Aa-ron's beard,

and then flows down his gar-ment.
It is like the dew of Her-mon,
which flows down up-on the hills of Zi-on.
The Lord has de-creed a bles-sing will be a-vail-a-ble: e-ter-nal life.

Glo-ry to the Fath-er, and to the Son,
and to the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in the be-gin-ning, is now,
and will be for ev-er. A-men.

Readings

A reading from Numbers 23:11-26

Then Balak said to Balaam, “What have you done to me? I brought you to curse my enemies, but on the contrary you have only blessed them!”Balaam replied, “Must I not be careful to speak what the Lord has put in my mouth?” Balak said to him, “Please come with me to another place from which you can observe them. You will see only a part of them, but you will not see all of them. Curse them for me from there. ”

So Balak brought Balaam to the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, where he built seven altars and offered a bull and a ram on each altar. And Balaam said to Balak, “Station yourself here by your burnt offering, while I meet the Lord there. ” Then the Lord met Balaam and put a message in his mouth and said, “Return to Balak, and speak what I tell you. ”When Balaam came to him, he was still standing by his burnt offering, along with the princes of Moab. And Balak said to him, “What has the Lord spoken?”

Balaam uttered his oracle, and said,
“Rise up, Balak, and hear;
Listen to me, son of Zippor:

God is not a man, that he should lie,
nor a human being, that he should change his mind.
Has he said, and will he not do it?
Or has he spoken, and will he not make it happen?

Indeed, I have received a command to bless;
he has blessed, and I cannot reverse it.

He has not looked on iniquity in Jacob,
nor has he seen trouble in Israel.
The Lord their God is with them;
his acclamation as king is among them.

God brought them out of Egypt.
They have, as it were, the strength of a wild bull.

For there is no spell against Jacob,
nor is there any divination against Israel.
At this time it must be said of Jacob
and of Israel, ‘Look at what God has done!’

Indeed, the people will rise up like a lioness,
and like a lion raises himself up;
they will not lie down until they eat their prey,
and drink the blood of the slain. ”

Balak said to Balaam, “Neither curse them at all nor bless them at all!”But Balaam replied to Balak, “Did I not tell you, ‘All that the Lord speaks, I must do’?”

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Thursday - First Song of Isaiah

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Sure-ly, it is God who saves me;
I will trust in him and not be a-fraid.
For the Lord is my strong-hold and my sure de-fense,
and he will be my Sav-ior.

There-fore you shall draw wa-ter with re-joic-ing
from the springs of sal-va-tion.
And on that day you shall say,
Give thanks to the Lord and call up-on his Name;

Make his deeds known a-mong the peo-ples;
see that they re-mem-ber that his Name is ex-alt-ed.
Sing the prais-es of the Lord,
for he has done great things,

And this is known in all the world.
Cry a-loud, in-hab-it-ants of Zi-on, ring out your joy,
for the great one in the midst of you
is the Ho-ly One of Is-ra-el.

Glo-ry to the Fath-er, and to the Son,
and to the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in the be-gin-ning, is now,
and will be for ev-er. A-men.

A reading from Romans 8:1-11

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the life-giving Spirit in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death. For God achieved what the law could not do because it was weakened through the flesh. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and concerning sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, so that the righteous requirement of the law may be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

For those who live according to the flesh have their outlook shaped by the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit have their outlook shaped by the things of the Spirit. For the outlook of the flesh is death, but the outlook of the Spirit is life and peace, because the outlook of the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to the law of God, nor is it able to do so. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, this person does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is your life because of righteousness. Moreover if the Spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, the one who raised Christ from the dead will also make your mortal bodies alive through his Spirit who lives in you.

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Thursday - Glory to God

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Glo-ry to God in the high-est,
and peace to his peo-ple on earth.
Lord God, heav-en-ly King,
al-might-y God and Fath-er,

We wor-ship you, we give you thanks,
We praise you for your glo-ry.
Lord Je-sus Christ, on-ly Son of the Fath-er,
Lord God, O Lamb of God,

You take a-way the sin of the world:
now have mer-cy on us;
you are seat-ed at the right hand of the Fath-er:
now re-ceive our pray-er.

For you a-lone are the Ho-ly One,
You a-lone are the Lord,
You a-lone are the Most High, Je-sus Christ,
with the Ho-ly Spi-rit, in the glo-ry of God the Fath-er.

Prayers

Thursday Creed

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

We be-lieve in God, the Fath-er al-might-y,
cre-a-tor of heav-en and earth.
We be-lieve in Je-sus Christ,
his on-ly son, our Lord.

He was con-ceived by the pow-er of the Ho-ly Spi-rit
and born of the Vir-gin Ma-ry.
He suf-fered un-der Pon-tius Pi-late,
was cru-ci-fied, died, and was bur-ied.

He de-scend-ed to the dead.
On the third day he rose a-gain.
He a-scend-ed into heav-en,
and is seat-ed at the right hand of the Fath-er.

He will come a-gain
to judge the liv-ing and the dead.
We be-lieve in the Ho-ly Spi-rit,
the ho-ly cath-o-lic Church,

the com-mun-ion of saints,
the for-give-ness of sins,
the res-ur-rec-tion of the bod-y,
and the life ev-er-last-ing. A-men.

Thursday - Our Father

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

The Lord be with you.
And al-so with you. A-men.
Our Fath-er in heav-en,
hal-low-ed be your Name.

Your king-dom come,
your will be done, on earth as in heav-en.
Give us to-day our dai-ly bread.
For-give us our sins as we for-give those who sin a-gainst us.

Save us from the time of tri-al,
and de-liv-er us from e-vil.
For the king-dom, the pow-er, and the glo-ry are yours,
now and for ev-er. A-men.

Thursday - Morning Suffrages A

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Show us your mer-cy, O Lord;
And grant us your sal-va-tion.
Clothe your min-is-ters with right-eous-ness;
Let your peo-ple sing with joy.

Give peace, O Lord, in all the world;
For on-ly in you can we live in safe-ty.
Lord, keep this na-tion un-der your care;
And guide us in the way of jus-tice and truth.

Let your way be known up-on earth;
Your sav-ing health a-mong all na-tions.
Let not the need-y, O Lord, be for-got-ten;
Nor the hope of the poor be tak-en a-way.

Cre-ate in us clean hearts, O God;
And sus-tain us with your Ho-ly Spi-rit.
Show us your mer-cy, O Lord;
And grant us your sal-va-tion.

Collect of the Day

Almighty God, whose blessed Son our Savior Jesus Christ ascended far above all heavens that he might fill all things: Mercifully give us faith to perceive that, according to his promise, he abides with his Church on earth, even to the end of the ages; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting.

Amen.

A Collect for Guidance

Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our being: We humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget you, but may remember that we are ever walking in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Prayer for Mission

O God, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth, and sent your blessed Son to preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near: Grant that people everywhere may seek after you and find you; bring the nations into your fold; pour out your Spirit upon all flesh; and hasten the coming of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

General Thanksgiving

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Al-might-y God, Fa-ther of all mer-cies,
we your un-wor-thy serv-ants give you hum-ble thanks
for all your good-ness and lov-ing kind-ness
to us and to all whom you have made.

We bless you for our cre-a-tion, pres-er-va-tion,
and all the bles-sings of this life;
but a-bove all for your im-meas-ur-a-ble love
in the re-demp-tion of the world by our Lord Je-sus Christ;

for the means of grace, and for the hope of glo-ry.
And, we pray, give us such an a-ware-ness of your mer-cy,
that with tru-ly thank-ful hearts
we may show forth your praise,

not on-ly with our lips, but in our lives,
by giv-ing up our selves to your ser-vice,
and by walk-ing be-fore you
in ho-li-ness and right-eous-ness all our days;

through Je-sus Christ our Lord,
to whom, with you and the Ho-ly Spi-rit,
be ho-nor and glo-ry
through-out all the ag-es. A-men.
