Let the words of my mouth

my strength and my re-deem-er.

Thus says the high and loft-y One
who in-hab-its e-ter-ni-ty,
whose name is Ho-ly,
I dwell in the high and ho-ly place

Send out your light
and your truth, that they may lead me,
and bring me to your ho-ly hill
and to your dwel-ling place.

Give thanks to the Lord, and call up-on his Name;
make known his deeds a-mong the peo-ples.
Lord, o-pen our lips.
And our mouth shall pro-claim your praise.

and raise a loud shout to him with psalms.

For the Lord is a great God,

In his hand are the cav-erns of the earth,
and the heights of the hills are his al-so.

The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands have mold-ed the dry land.
Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee,
and kneel be-fore the Lord our Mak-er.

For he is our God,
and we are the peo-ple of his pas-ture
and the sheep of his hand.

Psalm 83

O God, do not be si-lent!
Do not ig-nore us! Do not be in-ac-tive, O God!
For look, your en-e-mies are mak-ing a com-mo-tion;
those who hate you are hos-tile.

They care-ful-ly plot a-gainst your peo-ple,
and make plans to harm the ones you cher-ish.
They say, Come on,
lets an-ni-hi-late them so they are no long-er a na-tion!

Then the name of Is-ra-el
will be re-mem-bered no more.
Yes, they de-vise a u-ni-fied strat-e-gy;
they form an al-li-ance a-gainst you.

It in-cludes the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites,
Mo-ab and the Hag-rites,
Geb-al, Am-mon, and Am-a-lek,
Phi-lis-ti-a and the in-hab-it-ants of Tyre.

E-ven As-syr-i-a has al-lied with them,
lend-ing its strength to the de-scen-dants of Lot.
Do to them as you did to Mi-dian
as you did to Si-se-ra and Jab-in at the Ki-shon Riv-er!

They were de-stroyed at En Dor;
their corps-es were like ma-nure on the ground.
Make their no-bles like Oreb and Zeeb,
and all their rul-ers like Zeb-ah and Zal-munna,

who said, Let us take o-ver the pas-tures of God!
O my God, make them like dead this-tle,
like dead weeds blown a-way by the wind!
Like the fire that burns down the for-est,

or the flames that con-sume the moun-tain-side,
chase them with your gale wind,
and ter-ri-fy them with your wind-storm.
Cov-er their fac-es with shame,

so they might seek you, O Lord.
May they be hu-mil-i-at-ed
and con-tin-ual-ly ter-ri-fied!
May they die in their shame!

Then they will know
that you a-lone are the Lord,
You are the Most High
You reign o-ver all the earth.

A reading from Numbers 12:1-16


Then Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman he had married (for he had married an Ethiopian woman). They said, “Has the Lord spoken only through Moses? Has he not also spoken through us?” And the Lord heard it.

(Now the man Moses was very humble, more so than any man on the face of the earth. )
The Lord spoke immediately to Moses, Aaron, and Miriam: “The three of you come to the tent of meeting. ” So the three of them went. And the Lord came down in a pillar of cloud and stood at the entrance of the tent; he then called Aaron and Miriam, and they both came forward.

The Lord said, “Hear now my words: If there is a prophet among you, I the Lord will make myself known to him in a vision; I will speak with him in a dream. My servant Moses is not like this; he is faithful in all my house. With him I will speak face to face, openly, and not in riddles; and he will see the form of the Lord. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?” The anger of the Lord burned against them, and he departed. After the cloud had departed from above the tent, there was Miriam, leprous like snow. Then Aaron turned toward Miriam, and realized that she was leprous!

So Aaron said to Moses, “O my lord, please do not hold this sin against us, in which we have acted foolishly and have sinned! Do not let her be like a baby born dead, whose flesh is half-consumed when it comes out of its mother’s womb!”

Then Moses cried to the Lord, “Heal her now, O God. ” The Lord said to Moses, “If her father had only spit in her face, would she not have been disgraced for seven days? Shut her out from the camp seven days, and afterward she can be brought back in again. ”

So Miriam was shut outside of the camp for seven days, and the people did not journey on until Miriam was brought back in. After that the people moved from Hazeroth and camped in the wilderness of Paran.

I will sing to the Lord,
for he is loft-y and up-lift-ed;

the God of my peo-ple and I will ex-alt him.

The Lord is a might-y war-ri-or;
Yah-weh is his ho-ly Name.
The char-i-ots of Phar-oah and his ar-my
has he hurled into the sea;

The fin-est of those who bear ar-mor
have been drowned in the Red Sea.
The fa-thom-less deep has o-ver-whelmed them;
they sank into the depths like a stone.

Your right hand, O Lord,
is glo-ri-ous and might-y;
your right hand, O Lord,
has o-ver-thrown the en-e-my.

Who can be com-pared with you,
O Lord, a-mong the gods?
who is like you,
glo-ri-ous in ho-li-ness,

Awe-some in re-nown,
and work-er of won-ders?

A reading from Romans 2:12-24


For all who have sinned apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous before God, but those who do the law will be declared righteous. For whenever the Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature the things required by the law, these who do not have the law are a law to themselves. They show that the work of the law is written in their hearts, as their conscience bears witness and their conflicting thoughts accuse or else defend them,on the day when God will judge the secrets of human hearts, according to my gospel through Christ Jesus.

But if you call yourself a Jew and rely on the law and boast of your relationship to God and know his will and approve the superior things because you receive instruction from the law, and if you are convinced that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness, an educator of the senseless, a teacher of little children, because you have in the law the essential features of knowledge and of the truth –therefore you who teach someone else, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal? You who tell others not to commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? You who boast in the law dishonor God by transgressing the law! For just as it is written, “the name of God is being blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you. ”

He suf-fered un-der Pon-tius Pi-late,
was cru-ci-fied, died, and was bur-ied.

He de-scend-ed to the dead.
On the third day he rose a-gain.

Collect of the Day

Almighty God, whose blessed Son our Savior Jesus Christ ascended far above all heavens that he might fill all things: Mercifully give us faith to perceive that, according to his promise, he abides with his Church on earth, even to the end of the ages; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting.

A Collect for Guidance

Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our being: We humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget you, but may remember that we are ever walking in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. 

Amen.

A Prayer for Mission

O God, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth, and sent your blessed Son to preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near: Grant that people everywhere may seek after you and find you; bring the nations into your fold; pour out your Spirit upon all flesh; and hasten the coming of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

we may show forth your praise,
