Saturday - Evensong Invitation

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Grace to you and peace from God our Fa-ther
and from the Lord Je-sus Christ.
Wor-ship the Lord in the beau-ty of his ho-li-ness;
let the whole earth trem-ble be-fore him.

Let my prayer be set forth in your sight as in-cense,
the lift-ing up of my hands as the eve-ning sac-ri-fice.
I will bless the Lord who gives me coun-sel;
my heart teach-es me, night af-ter night.

I have set the Lord al-ways be-fore me;
be-cause he is at my right hand, I shall not fall.
O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.

Glo-ry to the Fath-er, and to the Son,
and to the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in the be-gin-ning, is now,
and will be for ev-er. A-men.

Saturday - O Gracious Light

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

O gra-cious light, pure bright-ness
of the ev-er-liv-ing Fath-er in heav-en,
O Je-sus Christ, ho-ly and bless-ed!
we sing your prais-es, O God!

Now as we come to the set-ting of the sun,
and our eyes be-hold the ves-per light,
we sing your prais-es, O God:
Fath-er, Son, and Ho-ly Spi-rit.

You are wor-thy at all times
to be praised by hap-py voic-es,
O Son of God, O Giv-er of life,
and to be glo-ri-fied through all the world.

Psalms

Psalm 104

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     All

Praise the Lord, O my soul!
O Lord my God, you are mag-nif-i-cent.
You are robed in splen-dor and maj-es-ty.
He cov-ers him-self with light as if it were a gar-ment.

He stretch-es out the skies like a tent cur-tain,
and lays the beams of his pal-ace on the rain clouds.
He makes the clouds his char-i-ot,
and trav-els a-long on the wings of the wind.

He makes the winds his mes-sen-gers,
and the flam-ing fire his at-tend-ant.
He es-tab-lished the earth on its foun-da-tion;
it will nev-er be moved.

The wat-er-y deep cov-ered it like a gar-ment;
the wat-ers reached a-bove the moun-tains.
Your shout made the wat-ers re-treat;
at the sound of your thun-der-ous voice they hur-ried off

As the moun-tains rose up,
and the val-leys went down to the place you ap-point-ed for them.
You set up a bound-a-ry for them that they could not cross,
so that they would not cov-er the earth a-gain.

He turns springs into streams;
they flow be-tween the moun-tains.
They pro-vide wat-er for all the an-i-mals in the field;
the wild don-keys quench their thirst.

The birds of the sky live be-side them;
they chirp a-mong the bush-es.
He wat-ers the moun-tains from the up-per rooms of his pal-ace;
the earth is full of the fruit you cause to grow.

He pro-vides grass for the cat-tle,
and crops for peo-ple to cul-ti-vate,
so they can pro-duce food from the ground,
as well as wine that makes peo-ple feel so good,

And so they can have oil to make their faces shine,
as well as food that sus-tains peo-ple's lives.
The trees of the Lord re-ceive all the rain they need,
the ce-dars of Leb-a-non which he plant-ed,

Where the birds make nests,
near the ev-er-greens in which the he-rons live.
The wild goats live in the high moun-tains;
the rock badg-ers find safe-ty in the cliffs.

He made the moon to mark the months,
and the sun sets ac-cord-ing to a reg-u-lar sched-ule.
You make it dark and night comes,
dur-ing which all the beasts of the for-est prowl a-round.

The li-ons roar for prey,
seek-ing their food from God.
When the sun ris-es,
they with-draw and sleep in their dens.

Men then go out to do their work,
and la-bor a-way un-til eve-ning.
How man-y liv-ing things you have made, O Lord!
You have ex-hib-it-ed great skill in mak-ing all of them;

The earth is full of the liv-ing things you have made.
O-ver here is the deep, wide sea,
which teems with in-nu-mer-a-ble swim-ming crea-tures,
liv-ing things both small and large.

The ships trav-el there,
and o-ver here swims the whale you made to play in it.
All of your crea-tures wait for you to pro-vide them with food.
You give food to them and they re-ceive it;

You o-pen your hand and they are filled with food.
When you ig-nore them, they pan-ic.
When you take a-way their life's breath,
they die and re-turn to dust.

When you send your life giv-ing breath, they are cre-at-ed,
and you re-plen-ish the sur-face of the ground.
May the splen-dor of the Lord en-dure!
May the Lord find pleas-ure in the liv-ing things he has made!

He looks down on the earth and it shakes;
he touch-es the moun-tains and they start to smol-der.
I will sing to the Lord as long as I live;
I will sing praise to my God as long as I ex-ist!

May my thoughts be pleas-ing to him!
I will re-joice in the Lord.
May sin-ners dis-ap-pear from the earth, and the wick-ed van-ish!
Praise the Lord, O my soul! Praise the Lord!

Glo-ry to the Fath-er, and to the Son,
and to the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in the be-gin-ning, is now,
and will be for ev-er. A-men.

Readings

A reading from Matthew 22:23-40

The same day Sadducees (who say there is no resurrection) came to him and asked him, “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and father children for his brother. ’ Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children he left his wife to his brother. The second did the same, and the third, down to the seventh. Last of all, the woman died. In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had married her. ” Jesus answered them, “You are deceived, because you don’t know the scriptures or the power of God. For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. Now as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living!” When the crowds heard this, they were amazed at his teaching.

Now when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they assembled together. And one of them, an expert in religious law, asked him a question to test him: “Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?” Jesus said to him, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. ’ This is the first and greatest commandment. The second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. ’ All the law and the prophets depend on these two commandments. ”

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

Saturday - Song of Zechariah

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Bless-ed be the Lord, the God of Is-ra-el;
he has come to his peo-ple and set them free.
He has raised up for us a might-y sav-ior,
born of the house of his serv-ant Da-vid.

Through his ho-ly proph-ets he prom-ised of old,
that he would save us from our en-e-mies,
from the hands of all who hate us.
He prom-ised to show mer-cy to our fath-ers

and to re-mem-ber his ho-ly cov-e-nant.
This was the oath he swore to our fath-er A-bra-ham,
to set us free from the hands of our en-e-mies,
Free to wor-ship him with-out fear,

ho-ly and right-eous in his sight
all the days of our life.
And you, my child, shall be called
the proph-et of the Most High,

for you will go be-fore the Lord to pre-pare his way,
To give his peo-ple knowl-edge of sal-va-tion
by the for-give-ness of their sins.
In the ten-der com-pas-sion of our God

the dawn from on high shall break up-on us,
To shine on those who dwell in dark-ness
and the shad-ow of death,
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glo-ry to the Fath-er, and to the Son,
and to the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in the be-gin-ning, is now,
and will be for ev-er. A-men.

We be-lieve in God, the Fath-er al-might-y,
cre-a-tor of heav-en and earth.
We be-lieve in Je-sus Christ,
his on-ly son, our Lord.

He was con-ceived by the pow-er of the Ho-ly Spi-rit
and born of the Vir-gin Ma-ry.
He suf-fered un-der Pon-tius Pi-late,
was cru-ci-fied, died, and was bur-ied.

He de-scend-ed to the dead.
On the third day he rose a-gain.
He a-scend-ed into heav-en,
and is seat-ed at the right hand of the Fath-er.

He will come a-gain
to judge the liv-ing and the dead.
We be-lieve in the Ho-ly Spi-rit,
the ho-ly cath-o-lic Church,

the com-mun-ion of saints,
the for-give-ness of sins,
the res-ur-rec-tion of the bod-y,
and the life ev-er-last-ing. A-men.

And grant us your sal-va-tion.
Clothe your min-is-ters with right-eous-ness;
Let your peo-ple sing with joy.

Collect of the Day

Father in heaven, by your grace the virgin mother of your incarnate Son was blessed in bearing him, but still more blessed in keeping your word: Grant us who honor the exaltation of her lowliness to follow the example of her devotion to your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Amen.

A Collect for Saturdays

O God, the source of eternal light: Shed forth your unending day upon us who watch for you, that our lips may praise you, our lives may bless you, and our worship on the morrow give you glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Prayer for Mission

O God and Father of all, whom the whole heavens adore: Let the whole earth also worship you, all nations obey you, all tongues confess and bless you, and men and women everywhere love you and serve you in peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

A Prayer of Saint Chrysostom

Al-might-y God,
you have giv-en us grace at this time
with one ac-cord
to make our com-mon sup-pli-ca-tion to you;

and you have prom-ised
through your well-be-lov-ed Son
that when two or three are ga-thered to-geth-er in his Name
you will be in the midst of them:

Ful-fill now, O Lord, our de-sires and pe-ti-tions
as may be best for us;
grant-ing us in this world knowl-edge of your truth,
and in the age to come life ev-er-last-ing. A-men.

Invitation

Pentecost - Saturday Invitation

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     All

The Lord is in his ho-ly tem-ple;
let all the earth keep si-lence be-fore him
I was glad when they said to me,
Let us go to the house of the Lord.

Let the words of my mouth
and the med-i-ta-tion of my heart
be ac-cep-ta-ble in your sight, O Lord,
my strength and my re-deem-er.

Thus says the high and loft-y One
who in-hab-its e-ter-ni-ty,
whose name is Ho-ly,
I dwell in the high and ho-ly place

Send out your light
and your truth, that they may lead me,
and bring me to your ho-ly hill
and to your dwel-ling place.

Give thanks to the Lord, and call up-on his Name;
make known his deeds a-mong the peo-ples.
Lord, o-pen our lips.
And our mouth shall pro-claim your praise.

Glo-ry to the Fath-er, and to the Son,
and to the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in the be-gin-ning, is now,
and will be for ev-er. A-men.

Saturday - Jubilate

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Be joy-ful in the Lord, all you lands;
serve the Lord with glad-ness
and come be-fore his pres-ence with a song.
Know this: The Lord him-self is God;

He him-self has made us, and we are his;
we are his peo-ple and the sheep of his pas-ture.
En-ter his gates with thanks-giv-ing;
go into his courts with praise;

Give thanks to him and call up-on his Name.
Be-cause the Lord is good;
his mer-cy is ev-er last-ing;
and his faith-ful-ness en-dures from age to age.

Psalms

Psalm 33

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     All

You god-ly one, shout for joy be-cause of the Lord!
It is ap-pro-pri-ate for the mor-al-ly up-right to of-fer him praise.
Give thanks to the Lord with the harp!
Sing to him to the ac-com-pa-ni-ment of a ten stringed in-stru-ment!

Sing to him a new song!
Play skill-ful-ly as you shout out your prais-es to him!
For the Lord's de-crees are just,
and eve-ry-thing he does is fair.

He pro-motes eq-ui-ty and jus-tice;
the Lord's faith-ful-ness ex-tends through-out the earth.
By the Lord's de-cree the heav-ens were made;
and by the breath of his mouth all the star-ry host.

He piles up the wat-er of the sea;
he puts the o-ceans in store-hous-es.
Let the whole earth fear the Lord!
Let all who live in the world stand in awe of him!

For he spoke, and it came into ex-ist-ence,
he is-sued the de-cree, and it stood firm.
The Lord frus-trates the de-ci-sions of the na-tion;
he nul-li-fies the plans of the peo-ples.

The Lord's de-ci-sions stand for-ev-er;
his plans a-bide through-out the ag-es.
How bless-ed is the na-tion whose God is the Lord,
the peo-ple whom he has cho-sen to be his spe-cial pos-ses-sion.

The Lord watch-es from heav-en;
and he sees all peo-ples.
From the place where he lives
he looks care-ful-ly at all the earth's in-hab-it-ants.

He is the one who forms eve-ry hu-man heart,
and takes note of all their ac-tions.
No king is de-liv-ered by his vast ar-my;
a war-ri-or is not saved by his great might.

A horse dis-ap-points those who trust in it for vic-to-ry;
de-spite its great strength, it can-not de-liv-er.
Look, the Lord takes no-tice of his loy-al fol-low-ers,
those who wait for him to dem-on-strate his faith-ful-ness

By sav-ing their lives from death
and sus-tain-ing them dur-ing times of fam-ine.
We wait for the Lord;
he is our de-liv-er-er and shield.

For our hearts re-joice in him,
for we trust in his ho-ly name.
May we ex-pe-ri-ence your faith-ful-ness, O Lord,
for we wait up-on you.

Glo-ry to the Fath-er, and to the Son,
and to the Ho-ly Spi-rit:
as it was in the be-gin-ning, is now,
and will be for ev-er. A-men.

Readings

A reading from Ecclesiasticus 10:1-8, 12-18

This is the account of Noah’s sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Sons were born to them after the flood.

The sons of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras. The sons of Gomer were Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah. The sons of Javan were Elishah, Tarshish, the Kittim, and the Dodanim. From these the coastlands of the nations were separated into their lands, every one according to its language, according to their families, by their nations.

The sons of Ham were Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan. The sons of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.

Cush was the father of Nimrod; he began to be a valiant warrior on the earth. and Resen, which is between Nineveh and the great city Calah.

Mizraim was the father of the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites, Naphtuhites, Pathrusites, Casluhites (from whom the Philistines came), and Caphtorites.

Canaan was the father of Sidon his firstborn, Heth, the Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites, Hivites, Arkites, Sinites, Arvadites, Zemarites, and Hamathites. Eventually the families of the Canaanites were scattered

Tenor     Soprano     Response     Cantor     Bass     Alto     PDF     All

Lord, you now have set your serv-ant free
to go in peace as you have prom-ised;
For these eyes of mine have seen the Sav-ior,
whom you have pre-pared for all the world to see:

A Light to en-light-en the na-tions,
and the glo-ry of your peo-ple Is-ra-el.
Lord, you now have set your serv-ant free
to go in peace as you have prom-ised;

A reading from James 5:7-10

So be patient, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s return. Think of how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the ground and is patient for it until it receives the early and late rains. You also be patient and strengthen your hearts, for the Lord’s return is near. Do not grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be judged. See, the judge stands before the gates! As an example of suffering and patience, brothers and sisters, take the prophets who spoke in the Lord’s name.

Here ends the reading.
Thanks be to God!

but a-bove all for your im-meas-ur-a-ble love
in the re-demp-tion of the world by our Lord Je-sus Christ;

for the means of grace, and for the hope of glo-ry.
And, we pray, give us such an a-ware-ness of your mer-cy,
that with tru-ly thank-ful hearts
we may show forth your praise,

not on-ly with our lips, but in our lives,
by giv-ing up our selves to your ser-vice,
and by walk-ing be-fore you
in ho-li-ness and right-eous-ness all our days;
